This might have already been mentioned in another thread, but I hadn't spotted it anywhere, so... it seemed worthy of a thread, what with this being the absolute final act in Dark Horse's saga:
heh, I was thinking of going through my previous digital issues and omnibuses on the 31st to grab whatever I've missed and deem warranted. Sadly it's a little too late for the mega bundle as I've already mostly gotten what I wanted. I was really hoping they had something like that earlier, but their SW Day bundle this year was pretty scattered in its offerings. I'll miss Dark Horse Missa ab iPhona mea est.
I don't know. I don't know if I want to spring for the megabundle. It's so much money, but it's also so many comics...
I'm not a fan of digital myself and can't spend that kind of money right now, but if I did I might be jumping all over this just to give Dark Horse something. I got that humble bundle a while back, I've been scrambling to get the physical Dark Horse graphic novels I can afford when I come across them locally. I'm not going to be able to get everything as it's too late for that but this would be great for people who were almost there and like digital comics! Everyone should give Dark Horse moneyz!
Oh? Says who? The books won't instantly go out of print and disappear. Even if some do those doesn't mean they can't be obtained at reasonable price from places other than Amazon! Going after out-of-print items is both an art and requires a bit of luck, but it's far from impossible. For instance I have a copy of Absolute Authority 1, that's a bastard to find, but I got lucky on Ebay.
Whoops, forgot about this, thanks for the reminder. I glanced at their site before, but that was a while ago, and I had bought most of the ones that I wanted digital backup copies of, but with this big sale, maybe I'll pick up a few more things I was interested in. I slightly regret buying a few things earlier, but its hard to tell when sales will start up, even with Christmas and the end of their license. Oh, I'm going to miss Dark Horse, they did such a good job with Star Wars.
Mm, How do you download the pdf/CBR/whatever off the website? I've bought their comics through their app, but I wonder if they will be removed from their servers once their license is gone?
Oh I plan on trying to complete the Dark Horse Star Wars collection in graphic novel and individual floppy form regardless of how long it will take and cost, but some Omnibi are already too difficult to find before the end of the year for their regular price due to my budget being low...at the moment. My main goal was to get the KOTOR Omnibus Volume 1 and Dark Empire Trilogy before the end of the year...I failed. I think it is possible to eventually get everything, but at this point I won't be able to get everything for regular price as I planned. Due to purchasing other things like non-Star Wars comics, video games, and movies. I decided I loved Dark Horse's Star Wars enough that I would collect everything, the good and the bad. It is going to be fun, but getting individual issues will definitely be the easy part for me.
I have everything except the Han Solo at Stars End in hard copy so I've never gotten into digital, but I'm TEMPTED just to support Dark Horse for all their years of amazing work. So..... hmmm.....
You don't, they don't support that. Comixology has fortunately realized that mistake (and as a result I'm more likely to buy stuff from them); Dark Horse hasn't yet. The store page for the megabundle explicitly says that you'll retain access; they just can't sell them after 1/1/2015. That, of course, relies on Dark Horse keeping their store up. Enough seemingly-well-backed ebook stores have died (Amazon's first go before Kindle, Random House's, HarperCollins') where you're still at risk of being out your money a year or three down the line.
I think it should still be available from their servers even after next year, as long as you bought it before their license ran out. Comixology lets you download stuff now? Although if you have a mobile device, the Dark Horse Comics app lets you download their issues. I've got several dozen issues on my iPad. Though the listing looks a bit odd without an internet connection, but reading the issues themselves is no problem.
It depends on the publisher. Some do, some don't. They tell you before you purchase books if it's one that can be backed up. So far it's all smaller publishers - no Marvel or DC. But IDW and Image both support it, so hopefully it's just a matter of time.
I. You can still download comics for viewing offline, they're just in the propriety format that requires the DH Ap. II. You will still be able to download comics you've already purchased. Missa ab iPhona mea est.
Just bought this having previously only owned physical copies of some of the comics (not many, I generally read the novels, not the comics). This might be the best value for money purchase I ever make. It'll take me well over a year to read most of 'em.
I've got all the single issues, the TPB, and the omnibuses. While this bundle is great, I already have everything and can't afford to spend that kind of money. With this said, anyone who does not have the comics, should get them now and not wait for Marvel. While I have no doubt that they will do a great job with the license, since they are going to own it forever that Disney owns Marvel and Lucasfilm. We should never forget the magic and wonder that Dark Horse did for Star Wars in comics. I was never too fond of Marvel's first run when they had the license and truly enjoyed Dark Horse with what they did in their 23 year run. As much as we attribute GL for the Summer movies blockbusters, Dark Horse truly set the bar for movie related comics. If IDW or Dynamite are enjoying success, its because of the formula that Dark Horse had for many years......
I don't know that there is anything missing, just pointing out that as long as there's a digital version, it will be in the bundle.
Bundle came at the right time for me. Just finished collecting as many of the TPBs as I could to be up to date as there's no guarantee Marvel will reprint them but there were a few things here and there like Infinity's End which weren't particularly pressing because I already had the Duursema/Ostrander Vos material. Would have been happy to wait to get to the olde Marvel issues eventually. However, given the option to give the money directly to Dark Horse for considerably cheaper than those Legends collections, I went with that over my preference for physical copies.
