Darth Bane as a Sith Lord, or The Sith Lord, on a scale of 1-10.

Hi all, Since there is a lot of posts concerning Darth Bane I thought it would be interetesting to see what we all thought of him on a scale of 1-10. There seems to be many posters that think he's one dimensional, I on the other hand think he was an ideal Sith Lord.

1. He establishes the Rule of Two which is followed by most Sith for a thousnad years plus. Getting the Sith to agree on anything is a accomplishment in itself.

2. His hunger for knowledge of the Sith and the Dark Side is commendable because respecting and learning from the past proven Sith Lords leads to it'a survival.

3. His Mental ablility to manipulate events and those strong in the Force like Lord Kaan, Githany (after he figured out she couldn't be trusted) , and the rest of the Sith Academy teachers.

4. I think it's fair to assume he was one of the best with a lightsabre.

5. His raw Force power.

6. Of course there are knocks against him because no one is perfect, but he was pretty close IMO. In terms of galactic accomplishments he peaked early with the Thought Bomb immediatly after that he was pretty low key building his spy network and connections. After that. well we'll see in future novels hopefully.

I say 9/10 just because we don't know how this [snip] angle is going to work out.

But, on a scale of 1-10, I'd give him an 8 for having a disturbing background.

 

i'm gonna have to give him a 10. After reading the third book, Bane seems like the perfect sith lord to me. he's brilliant, and has a brilliant set-up. he's strong, as big as vader, alot faster, and can do things with the force that are sometimes scary. There are other sith i would give 10, but not many. Bane is the sith'ari after all...

 

I guess all I'm just trying to point out and gauge from people is why there seems to be a little disrespect to this trilogy and the character in general. Zannah is now thought to be a wasted character, but the story is about Darth Bane. Bottom line is I think Bane is awesome. I want to know what you guys think.

 

Honestly, I think the Bane concept is great. And I think the books are fun (I haven't read the third yet). I think the books are really simplistic. DK is really good at structure. He really keeps things moving but it's just not the most mature writing in the EU. The characters aren't really multilayered at all. But I suppose that can be said about many SW characters.

Anyway, I'd rate Bane the same as I'd rate the books. They're kind of intertwined. So, 6-7 maybe.

yeah that's very true, not to mention he can take out a twenty meter tall temple after training in the dark side of the force for a YEAR.

 

I'd say Bane is a 8. He is one of the greatest Sith ever. In fact, I would put only Sidious above him. Yet Sidious managed to surpass him in everyway: brains, power, accomplishments. THus he gets an 8 as I measure him against Sidious who I consider the only Sith worthy of a 10.

 

Bane didn't really impress me all that much in "Rule of Two". It seemed like too many years of "Why can't I get this darned Holocron gadget thingy working" and then too much of "I have no fighting style because the orbalisks just protect me so I can just stand here and not worry about getting hacked up" and still not absolutely tearing the Jedi apart. I mean seriously......imagine Sidious in a lightsaber fight with any 4 Jedi (Go Yoda, Mace, Anakin, Kenobi) where he doesn't have to worry about the defensive. Do those four last more than a minute? I doubt it.

 

He didn't impress me either. he blew me away. The holocron didn't work because of a simple flaw in his technique, but that is explained. i thought he had a great fighting style, he took out like 8 shadow guards like it was nothing and proceded to almost killing zannah, who had already gotten ten years of training under her belt. The jedi had a expert battle meditation master at their side, supplying only what four or five jedi with power? a jedi can encourage a whole army, i'd hate to think how much power they could supply four or five jedi, especially a weapons master. i don't think sidious's frail body could handle orbalisks haha...

 

5. The whole Rule of 2 thing was smart and he gets some shockingly ruthless moments, but he really lacks personality and style.

 

I agree. His DS power would be to much for the orbalisks to handle and they would burst apart almost immediatly.
