If you had to give Maul an age in TPM, then how old would he be? I'm gonna say that he was in his early to mid twenties. Also, did he ever stand a chance against two jedi? I mean, he was one bad dude, but I got the impression that he was over confident, and that that was his undoing. If that is true, then he never stood a chance, becuase he was cocky going into the duel. Don't get me wrong, I loved his character, but he was destined to fail. What do you think?

I would also like to add that, if Maul had lived, a Maul vs. Anakin duel in Ep III would have been amazing. What better way to prove yourself to Sidious than to destroy the man that killed Qui-gon. Anakin also has probable cause for hating Maul.

I agree with your view on that fight. I have always thought that maul was one of the most overrated fights in the saga. He had to die to show how powerful OB1 was. Maul was a great fighter but let's face it, he doesn't hold a candle to dooku and vader.

What's all this? Of course Maul could've taken out two Jedi at once. We know this because its almost universally acknowledged that he could've very easily beaten Obi-wan at the end of the duel, had he not abruptly stopped fighting.

Further, I don't think his death really showed how powerful Obi-wan was. After all, Obi-wan did spent the majority of it getting beat. I will give that it established Obi-wan's legitimacy as a warrior, though.

And finally, Maul in comparison to Dooku or Vader. I'd encourage you to check out the Maul v. Vader topic (on this board) for my views on that issue.

what fight were you guys watching? OB definitely had the upper hand until the force push. Maul was too cocky and didn't finish him off and that cost his life. As for maul being better than dooku, get real. Dooku is a calm, fearless warrior who who let maul flip and flop all over the place while he stands his ground and takes him out. And I can not belive ANYONE would honestly think maul is stronger than vader.

I have one question, are you refering to Anakin or Vader? I know that they are the same person, but look at the difference in the fights between say... ESB and AOTC. As Vader, he appears to be a bit weaker with his swordsmanship, but stronger in the force (choking someone lightyears away).

I think he was 29 years and 3 months old. :p

Darth Maul himself knew he couldn't take on both Jedi. You can see all thoughout the fight he tries his best to keep the fight down to one-on-one, by kicking Obi-Wan away a couple of times.

    milney,
I was talking about vader but I think ani could easily beat maul as I'm sure we will see in EPIII.

I meant that his ability will be such that he would have easily have been able to beat maul if there was such a confrontation which of course there will never be since maull was beaten by OB1

    Better? ;-)

What fight were you watching Darth-Jebus?

It seemed Ob1 was gaining the upper hand, because his master had just been struck down and the dark side of the force was influencing his actions. There was no focus. Maul actually had the upper hand the whole time and just waited for his opening.

"Darth Maul himself knew he couldn't take on both Jedi. You can see all thoughout the fight he tries his best to keep the fight down to one-on-one, by kicking Obi-Wan away a couple of times."

Understand the Art of War, you must. He knew Obi Wan wasn't the real threat. Qui Gon was in essence a Jedi Master, if not for his differences with the Jedi Council. He focused on Qui Gon because he knew QG was the stronger of the two. It shows that Obi's experience was lacking to allow himself to continue to be separated from the fight. It also shows how intelligent Maul was to continue to separate them. THAT is the Art of War. Divide and Conquer.

    Lets tally it up:
    AOTC
Obi Wan - fairly new the the ranks of Jedi Knight hood
Anakin - a fairly young and inexperienced padawan
Dooku - a very experienced Sith Lord

    Dooku should own this fight.

    TPM
Qui Gon - An experienced Jedi Knight/Master
Obi Wan - a padawan that's "...ready for the Jedi trials." according to Qui Gon (spoken by Obi)
Darth Maul - a Sith Lord; not as experienced as Dooku; still experienced nevertheless (has assassinated many a Jedi)

Maul basically owned this fight. He should not have had such an easy time defeating Qui Gon. But, he did. He toyed with Obi Wan before he caught a case of badly written death-itis and story progression syndrome(both fatal diseases). It's unfortunate that his death makes him look stupid, while the actual fight showed that he had a wealth of knowledge: in both the Force and fighting tactics.

Correct me if I'm wrong Lord or the Bling but OB1 won the fight. If you think OB was on the defensive or not doesn't really matter because the outcome is fact. OB1 won, maul lost. THAT is the fight I was watching.

Obi-Wan won, but that does not mean he was a better swordfighter than Maul. Not taking anything from my man Kenobi, he did fight better than any other no-name Jedi would've.

I'll correct you then. Think of it this way(I'm sure you won't): Obi lost the battle, but he won the war.
The fight was over when Maul Force pushed Obi. When Maul struck Obi with the hilt of his saber, he didn't have to Force Push him. He could have gutted his ass like he did Qui Gon's. Nevertheless, when Obi was hanging from the ledge, the fight was over. But, since he was still alive, the 'war' was not over. Maul WON for all intents and purposes. Inevitably, he didn't finish the job. Obi lost, but he wasn't beaten. Thus, Obi did what Maul was kept from doing...He finished.

Oh, and Obi was definitely on the offensive, but he wasn't in control of the situation. I give the nod to Maul on that front.

EDIT: "He had to die to show how powerful OB1 was."

BTW, Nothing other than the fact that Maul died shows this. He dominates up until the death scene. Inevitability is a mean beotch.

Jebus, that's rather faulty logic on several levels. Let's take for instance, you're claim "Obi-wan won the fight [. . .] outcome is fact." If you're asserting that just because Kenobi won, he was the better fighter, than by that rule, we could also conclude:

    1. Vader is stronger than the Emperor, since Vader killed him. Note:We know this is not true, since Lucas has been quoted as naming Palpatine and Yoda the strongest Force users of their respective sides.

    2. Jar-Jar is stronger than droid troopers, since he sucessfully disabled some in TPM. Never mind that it was because of his stupid bumbling and random chance. According to this logic, an army of all Jar-Jars would completely route the Federation droid army, since one Jar-Jar is absolutely stronger than any one Federation droid. After all "outcome is fact"

    3. Han Solo (or any other blind, completely disoriented and unarmed person) is stronger than Boba Fett (and probably Jango Fett too, by extension).

As for you're other statement, would you care to back up how Vader is stronger than Maul (in the appropriate thread)?

His point is that Dooku didn't own the fight against Yoda due to the fact that they were evenly matched right up to the end where Yoda was about to gain the upper hand which forced Dooku to cheat his way out of the fight by dropping a pillar on Anakin and Obi-wan.

I'm not sure if you agree or disagree with me, you back up my argument a couple of times.

It's just better to assume Maul was kicking and bashing just to separate the two. As you said, divide and conquer. ;)

I think Maul was around his eearly 20s and I think he could take out 2 Jedi.
He was just so stupid by standing there like an idiot.

The fight between Maul and Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon was a violation of the code of honor that stipulates that the good guys must never gang up on the bad guys.

It looks bad for two reasons:

    First, it makes the good guys look weak thus making the side of good look weak;

Second, it's ungentleman-like to gang-up on one person.

GL made a huge mistake in TPM by doing this. Instead, Obi-Wan could have arrived later after fighting to free up the Queen or some other reason and then joined Qui-Gon as Qui-Gon was struck down.

That would have been the fair thing to do.

I will not deny that maul had skills, but I think obi-wan is very powerfull so he was a good match for him. even if he hadn't beaten maul I think his (maul's) arrogance would have been his undoing. I mean he was doing all these showy tricks when no one was even fighting him. I mean, come on!

Darth Maul was 25, in "TPM". As for those Jedi: I think the question is; did they ever stand a chance against, Darth Maul? ([IMO], hell no!) In the end, it was Darth Maul who beat himself. Make no mistake, Obi-Wan, never had a chance; he just got lucky... plan an simple. (As I've said a million times; that was the worst ending to duel that I have ever seen - made no sense at all.)

Obi Wan calmed himself down and surprised Maul. What I liked about it in this case was Obi Wan let go of his aggression and Maul failed to realize what the young Jedi was doing. It was then after the flip, Maul failed to react to Obi Wan's sudden aggressive surge (as I would like to call it), but then it was too late. It was that sudden aggressive surge that did Maul in. Obi Wan clearly went for the kill. No other choice.

Anyway that's just my look at it.
