Or you can always go to Google Translate and type in words like "evil" or "betrayal" for good names. I took the word "betrayal" in German and used it for my mom. :D

    She's a dark hindu goddess

Lol, Arin_Atona already had a very psychopathic Kali for a bit, which scared me, but she's now my fave oc.

I had an idea for a completly phsycotic sith lord that I was going to name Darth Impailer. Sure the name is unoriginal, but I planned on making up for it with his brutality. Anyway I never got around to writting him, and probably never will.

I find it hard to come up a fitting name for a Sith (or any OC for that matter). I usually work out the story with a temporary name and by the end, something good comes to me.

The best method I've come up with for creating Sith names is picking some dark or destructive word and altering the spelling until it's suitably different from the original.

    I think that's Lucas' approach too. ;)

Vader: German/Dutch for "Father" (Not dark, but it sounds it)

    Maul: Um... maul. Duh. :p

    Sidious: Insidious, sinister, etc.

Tyrannus: Latin for "terrible", also sounds like Tyrant.

Ehheehee... don't let my Kali hear that!

Sidious and Tyrranus both sound Latin-ish, despite the obvious English meaning they are meant to convey. Vader reminds me of the word "invader", and Maul... well... I still don't know where Maul came from.

I looked to a Latin lexicon for coming up with the name for one of my Darth characters (who has not yet appeared), taking a root word with a obvious meaning and then tweaking it a bit to make it sound more villainish.

Maul's there to maul people, maybe compare him to a pitbull or something. I agree on Vader-Invader.

    *possible KOTOR II spoiler below*

Some of the KOTOR II names follow the same idea, too - Nihilus for his tendency to annihilate things (worlds) completely, Traya for betrayal...

Onelook.com is a dictionary meta-search engine that supports wildcards, so if you want to find a word that ends in, say, "ious" or "ius" (as in "Sidious"), you just type *ius into the search field. It will only give you 1000 results, which takes you about through "g," but you can get around that by typing in the first letter manually and doing separate searches: h*ius, i*ius, j*ius, etc.

I tried that and found some interesting stuff:

Accursius -- Apparently a RL 12th century Italian jurist--with a really bad name

    Bruttius -- Et tu?

    Victorius -- So he thinks

Villerius -- Kind of a villain that's valiant but nefarious--or possibly hilarious

    Dracontius -- "Dragon-like," also "a botanical epithet." (?)

Furius -- My personal favorite. The real definition: "Furius was the nomen of the ancient Roman gens Furia, an old family of uncertain origin."

Regius -- For a Sith who thinks he's pretty regal. Just make sure he doesn't have a sidekick named Kathy Leeius.

Severus -- Maybe he's severe, or maybe he just likes to sever things.

Ulterius -- His motivations are never what he claims they are.

There were also plenty of "top 10 least favorite Darth names:"

    Obtusius
Simplicius -- The Dumb and Dumberer of the Sith Order

Hilarius -- Makes people laugh themselves to death

    Previus -- Such a has-been

Porcius -- Porkins has gone to the dark side! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh!

Toyota Prius -- Evil, but with really good gas mileage

Voluntarius -- Look, at least he wants to be here

And, in the "Men Who Become Sith Lords and the Women Who Love Them" category:

Naberius -- "In demonology, Naberius is the most valiant Marquis of Hell, and has nineteen legions of demons under his command."

"Obi-Wan never told you what happend to your mother . . ."

There are three names i've made up/plan to use- Wraith, Infinite and Desolace. Nihilus (from KOTOR 2) was a great name too

    Dracontius -- "Dragon-like," also "a botanical epithet." (?)

Botanical epithet means it's the name of a plant, or a word used to describe a type or part of a plant. You have to be a bit careful with these because you wouldn't want to use a name that sounded appropriately menacing, but meant snow-pea or such. On an added note, Dracontius also evokes the adjetive Draconian, which also fits.

All the Sith I've come up with have been in crossovers, so it's been Darth Blackadder, Darth Grimace, Darth Siegfried, and Darth Stalker. [face_mischief]

I know. ;) The (?) was really more of a . It was something similar to the draconian snow pea image that got me.

Darth Rage is one of the more popular names I've heard in the past.

Darth Gore is one I happened across more recently.

Darth Nosferatu might sound pretty sweet.

And Vader, contrary to what you might think, comes from the name of one of Lucas' classmates, not any European names for father etc.

I thought Vader came from Invader like Sidious comes from Insidious.

Vader means father in Dutch too..So it was not really a shock for me when he said he was Luke's father. lol

Vader came from Gary Vader, a classmate of Lucas' who, according to their school year book, played a lot of football. Its possible that along with Bob. A. Fett, Vader mighta pushed Lucas around as a schoolkid.

So Lucas used his name. The connection with "father" etc came around later.

    Re: Darth Gore

Didn't he run for president?

You can do a user search on "darth" if you want. There are hundreds of darths running around TFN, including "Darth Bob Villa," "Darth Cantelope," "Darth Duct Tape," and "Darth Dracola" (who drinks his Pepsi by biting through the side of the can?)

Most are silly, but some are kind of evil-sounding: "Darth Discord," "Darth Havoc," "Darth Kruel," etc.

You're welcome to borrow any of these from my own writing: Ryoo, Acraled, Kaltyk, Rydion.

I can always come up with more.

Priceless. I'd go with the latter for Severus, remember snape.

    Obtusius
Simplicius -- The Dumb and Dumberer of the Sith Order

Hilarius -- Makes people laugh themselves to death

Ophelia, you ARE darthhilarius right now.

Toyota Prius -- Evil, but with really good gas mileage

"Yeah, go all twelve parsecs to the dark side without refilling with Darth Toyota Prius."

Has anyone ever wondered why george named his great romantic character after tonsils?

    Spanish:

    Amigdala--Tonsil

Maybe because that's what anakin likes to extract during their romantic scenes?
