I'd love to read a short story about the Shu-Torun war. It would be nice to see the factions fleshed out a little bit.
I like Aphra but only when she's hanging with her Vader bro not with Leia and the good guys. Also they have so got to do a Vader spin-off movie off these Vader Graphic novels
I thought they missed a trick with Spoiler Aiolin in this issue. They could easily have had her survive and have Vader reconstruct her similar to the way he himself was reconstructed giving himself yet another pawn in his game of wits against Cylo.
Karl0413 Let's just saying you should get out your Violin and play it for Spoiler Aiolin. *** My favorite part was when Queen Trios essentially does what Vader did to her in choosing the new Baron. Pretty bad ass.
Powerful issue, fire and fury. Spoiler I was dreading the death of Aiolin. But I thought it was touching how she ended. Yes Vader wanted the information, but he could just let her die, instead he gives her a merciful death. A slight touch of mercy from our black knight. It was all pretty intense. First Aiolins death, then the action, Trios being a badass but somehow corrupted at the same time. Meeting Vader destroyed any innocence she may have had once. Shu Torun is a pool of sharks, the setting has grown on me and I hope we will visit it again someday. Great lines! Vader: "...unless, once more, you wish to dance." Dang that's mean. Trios: "I've found inexperienced youths not expecting power the easiest to manipulate, Lord Vader." What the hell is Palpatine going on about? Probably pretending that all proceeded according to plan or some such nonsense. I like that Thanoth uncovers Vader's little game, he's too smart to be fooled forever. Looking forward to some Thanoth action!
Spoiler I agree on this. She was the most interesting of all Cylo's gang of bores, if only because she showed a genuine interest in siding with Vader. She would have been an interesting addition to the theme of Vader picking up young women proteges. Ahsoka, Aphra, Trios... Aiolin. But I liked this issue overall, even though I quibbled with that decision. Queen Trios was steely and smart, and her dynamic with Vader has only grown more interesting. Triple-Zero was as glorious as ever. And Thanoth! I was not expecting to see him again so soon.
Spoiler But Vader had a point. What would he need her for? She's a fighter but he can fight very well on his own. I thought her death was well executed though I also hope that Vader gains some more sidekicks over time. But maybe Thanoth will be that new ally, because apparently he doesn't want to rat on Vader quite yet.
Spoiler As usual, excellent, intriguing story with sub-par art. The colorist is the only saving grace art-wise, so I have to comment on that. I felt sorry for Aiolin, she was one of my favorite of Cylos' minions. However, I am glad that Vader (and out-of universe Marvel) didn't try and put her in a suit. It would have been to similar, dare I say a rip-off of Azlyn Rae from the Legacy comics. Aiolin had a touching end, therefore I don't object with what we got. The impression I got from Palps is that he's on Vaders' side right now (at least it appears to be so) regarding Cylo. But Thanoths' news at the end was an excellent cliff-hanger ending to this issue. I hope it pays of in the next one, I can't wait for it!
Spoiler Cylo and the Emperor are pals, so a pissed off Vader ready to kill Cylo is going to have his hand stifled when the Emperor reveals that it was his idea to have Cylo take the Baron's side. Why not keep Vader in the loop? Maybe to make it more believable? Maybe the Emperor is still pissed at him for the Death Star? Maybe it's another test to see if he would have taken an apprentice? BTW, are the mods going to make this or another thread the official "Marvel Canon Darth Vader" thread or are we going to continue to have a thread each individual issue?
Spoiler I think that currently the Vader comics take place a couple of months after ANH, so I would expect that the Emperor is still mad at Vader about the Death Star. And Palps being Palps, he's almost certainly testing Vader. Whether he genuinely feels that Cylo is a potential worthy successor to Vader, or he's just playing with Vaders' patience for the sake of it is the real question.
Spoiler At first I thought Vader had thrown that male twin into the lava, pulling kind of like an Indiana Jones- vs- the-swordsman move after the guy taunted him. Now I'm disappointed it was Aiolin
The Shu-Torun War arc has been really fun, to me. But I'm a sucker for royalty and client state politics.
