I believe a simple answer would be that you don't. His cape flows from the neck, not attached at the armor at all. If I recall, correctly, Darth Vader's cape is not attached to his armor at all, but there is a small chain that clasps both ends of the cape around the neck/chest area of his armor. And not like regular chain-link type stuff, either. I think it was the small, decorative tye of chain. In fact, just like how Dooku's cape is draped around his neck. Does that make any sense?

Attaching the cape is highly advisable, especially if you are doing an Episode III ROTS Vader.

Attaching the cape will ensure that it hangs on the armor wher you want it to and taht it does not move out of place and look silly.

    Thanks for the plug Huzz!

Like Huzz said, if you're doing a ROTS Vader, the cape sits on the armor in a very specific way and should be held in place to pull off the screen look. I went through too many troops where the cape slipped behind my armor in the back. It's especially irritating when your outside and the wind is blowing but even indoors walking around my cape would sneak behind my armor without me noticing. Problem solved.

and to add, yes, in ROTS, the cape DOES attach to the armor, to clear that up.

I suppose it all depends on which version Vader you are doing....

thats why we said ROTS, and from what i understood, thats what the question was really about.

The original question posed was how does it attach. He never actually specified which version he was doing.

I've implemented seduced's method of attaching the cape to the armor on my ROTS Vader. Along with attaching the bells permanently, it is one of the best tips you'll get on wearing/modding the costume. Period.

As with anything else. Wearing your costume should be about FUN and the satisfaction YOU get in doing it. That said, I wore my Vader last night at an elementary school for an hour and a half and if my cape wasn't attached to the armor, I would have gone insane in the first 30 minutes.

I'm glad it worked out for you Richthofen. And you hit the nail on the head that costuming should being fun. Part of that fun, like you said, is getting personal satisfaction from your costuming sessions.

For me, there was nothing more distracting than when I developed a complex on the location of my cape before I came up with the attachement method. It was getting to the point where I constantly held on to my cape with boths hands at waist level. So yeah, insanity is a good description.
