Darth Vader has all of this great power in the Force especially in the Dark Side of the Force yet all he does is use it to push other people around and Bully them, he chokes Admiral Motti on the Death Star for disagreeing with him about the Force, he Force Chokes and kills countless Imperial Officers for simple mistakes when he could demote them instead,he occupies Cloud City on Bespin and forces Lando to do whatever he is told or else a Garrison will be left there,he attacks Luke like a brute and cuts off his hand and expects him to join him, murders countless Separitist Leaders on Mustafar like a maniac,Murder countless Jedi and Younglings inside of the Jedi Temple instead of letting the Clones do it for him.

Vader uses the Primitive and base concept of rule through rule through Intimidiation and Threat instead of Logic and Reason when he could gain the respect of his own Men like Grand Admiral Thrawn does, Compare Vader to other Sith Lords like Count Dooku and Emperor Palpatine who use Diplomacy and Politics to get things accomplished and only pull out a Lightsaber and fight as a last resort, Dooku being forced to duel Obi-Wan and Palpatine being forced to fight Mace Windu and the Jedi Possee in his Office, For all of his Force Powers Darth Vader is just a brute and will never be a great Thinker, he is a fighter and bully, Whereas people Yoda are very Enlightened almost like the Buddha and only use their Force Powers to Help others and Serve them and only fight as a last resort when they are forced to dtep up to the plate and fight for what is Right, Darth Vader uses violence and raw brute Power to get his way instead of Thinking and using his Brain to solve his probelms, he also relies on his Suit and Mask and their intimidating effect on people, Vader is a Brute and uses a Primitive form of fear instead of talking people into joining him and convincing them that he is Right, Vaders violence and use of force against others makes me hate him, Palpatine on the other hand i like because he is Smart and gets others to see things his way without violence.

This question you must ask yourself, does Vader need to use anything but use brute force and rule through fear?

He's the Emperor's Enforcer; The thinking is left to Palpatine while the action is carried out by Vader. Vader doesn't need anyone's respect, he knows he's the strongest person in the galaxy. If anyone wants to take him on, they'll come off second best.

This is the whole point to Vaders character. The caring human being Jedi that was Anakin, turns into the mindless machine that is Vader. The thinking part of him comes out at the end of ROTJ when his feelings for Luke overwhelm him.

Yep, the point to Vaders character is "Vader hears you, Vader doesnt care".

i agree with Darth_Falcon. i believe that by the time of the ending of the empire strikes back vader IS without question the most powerful being in the entire galaxy!!! he is in absolute total control of everything. he has proven that he just cannot be beaten and even yoda probably cant do anything about it if he somehow tryd to.i also think its safe to say that he is ONE OF the greatest sith who ever lived.and plz dont let his swordplay in the movies fool you,we NEVER really saw his full potential with a lightsaber when you think about it,cuz when he fought obi-wan he was not about to make the same mistake he did the first time by rushing into it! he took his time and was very relaxed until he saw that obi-wan wasent the jedi he use to be witch is when he sed "your powers are weak old man,you should not have com back!" thats when it was in the bag but then obi-wan gave up.then theres his first fight with his son witch he went very easy on him until the very end witch he brought him right down in. then theres the real fight witch to be fare we only see a little bit of and what we see is really grate but now luke is holding back! so keep in mind that vader for the most part, killed off the hole jedi order in between episodes 3 and 4 and he killed whoever he came up agenst! HE IS THE DARK LORD.

Darth Vader can do what ever he wants. Period. But you are incorrect in your assesment of Vader. He is very smart. A noted stragetic and tactful thinker. You underestimate Vader. If anything, he is underated after the release of the PT.

Vader bullied around lower ranked officers who were trying to make a name for themselves at his expense. Vader treated Gov. Tarkin with respect. Although Vader is feared, the people fear the Emperor more. (it was the visit from the emperor that got them motivated in ROTJ)

Even after seriously being injured on mustafar...in the OT he is 80% as powerful as Sidious

He force chokes and moves objects just with his mind

    That speaks for itself

Adding to your comment, if you aren't smart, the Emperor doesn't make you Supreme Commander of the entire Imperial Navy, Sith Lord or not. Vader is the second most powerful being in a galaxy that contains trillions and trillions of people. Thats not too shabby. Darth Vader not only had the Force power to do just about anything he wanted, he also had the political power to do it. How can you be overrated when you are second in command of the entire freaking galaxy?

Darth Vader is an intimidater, he is suppose to strike fear in you and do whatever he wants to. He may not talk politics and sit behind a desk, but he's still a smart man(in the OT).

And on top of that, Vader's the greatest cinema villain of all time. In no way overrated.

On the contrary, Dooku and Palpatine were no less ruthless. They might not have been as blatant about it, but both of them sent millions of people to their deaths on a whim.

As for Vader killing his own officers, it's not like he does it every day. I'm sure even Piett and his entire command crew would've mutinied if Vader were strangling people for minor and insignificant mistakes.

Yep. Palpatine engineering an entire galactic war. killing who knows how many people for the purposes of elevating him to Supreme Chancellor and as a means to eliminate the Jedi would count as pretty ruthless to me...

And Wilderness Comedian? How does Grievous defend himself against a Force user? How does Grievous defend himself against being levitated? Or simply Force choked/crushed? He doesn't have the Force to block such abilities with...Against a Jedi Master like Yoda, a Jedi smart enough to realize Grievous was just a machine with a few organic parts, Grievous has no chance at all. Kenobi could have ended the fight against Grievous in less than a second, had the script not called for a more entertaining fight. Realistically, a creation like Grievous would be almost useless as a Jedi killer, only able to defeat padawans who aren't experienced enough yet to know they can just use the Force on him. The only way Grievous would have a shot at beating Yoda is if A) he had a Ysalamari strapped to his back to prevent such Force abilities, and B) Yoda suffers the brain fart of all brain farts, and thinks the only way to beat him is with a saber. A non Force using cyborg has NO chance at all against a Jedi or Sith Master.

I don't think that Vader by any means is overrated. The image of the empire was the Dark Lord of the Sith, and even Palpatine knew this. He stated clearly in the Episode Three novel that it shouldn't be known that he possessed "Jedi like power".

Yes it can be seen that Vader did bully the lower level officer's, but it would be no different then any other Sith Lord except that Vader even though he didn't acknowledge the name of Anakin still possessed the same brash nature that he was once worshipped for. In the end Vader was known for his extreme acts, but in those extreme acts did not the empire thrive from it and the biggest blow ever to be delievered to the empire came when Vader decided it so not the Palpatine.

You don't have to agree with or love Vader's antics, but just like he was when he was the Jedi Anakin with the Order Vader was extremely effective, respected, but not liked by all. Any other way would be considered an insult to the legacy that is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

I do agree with Matthew78 on some of the aspects of Vader being overrated, A crazy cloned Jedi Master once said that in order to have true power you cannot kill those who are under you, because then you have no one to rule. Vader however, pulls it off. He insticts fear into everyone he meets not just by his robotic appearance but also by the tales told by the witnesses who have seen his wrath on other ignorant officers.

The one thing I always didn't like about the birth of Vader is how much it brings down the coolness level of Vader. He's told to exterminate the jedi and bring clones with him. I was always hoping, back in my spoil me for episode III thread days that Vader would indeed take over the temple himself. Seems impossible but that would've brought Vader up a good 10 points right there. Instead we see him fight like 3 or 4 jedi and then just kill the younglings. Darth Vader by the OT is a crippled man who has lead the greater part of his life alone and derranged, but he is still without a doubt the most powerful and strongest being in the galaxy.

My feeling on the whole "Vader is overrated" sentiment is that Vader's potential for greater force talents and power was brought to a halt as soon as he turned to the dark side. Palpatine possessed all sorts of Sith powers and promised to teach them to Anakin/Vader, however, when Palpatine got what he really wanted, which was a right hand to do the dirty work, he held back on instructing Vader on how to increase his force capabilities. I think Palpatine was afraid that Vader would do to him, what Palps did to his own Master.

By no means was Palpatine about to make Vader more powerful than himself. Palpatine wasn't prepared to give up his rule in any way, shape or form.

btw i meant besides his master and his son. but i also think that to sum extent it was very, very important to keep the imperials in line or elts there would be so many problems and mutiny's,because when you think about it, the imperials are very trechorus and always looking for more power that it would fall apart if it wasent for vader.just like it dus as soon as vader and the emperor dies after rotj! and vader knew this, and it probably disgusted him! so its not like hes bullying them but being a real leader and keeping them in line.thats the way i see it.

I don't see why they're excepted given that Luke's one of the few people with potential equal to Vader's and his master is someone Vader would have surpassed by then if not for his injuries.

Vader couldn't surpass Palpatine in power because of his injuries. He could only max out to 80% of the Emperor. In Dark Lord, Vader does make the comment that Palpatine is with holding knowledge, but I believed it to be paranoia. Palpatine, in Dark Lord, wants Vader to become as powerful as he once potentially could have become, that's why he sends him on various missions. This is backed up in RotS, when Palpatine tells Yoda, "You won't stop me, Darth Vader will become more power than either of us." It seems Palpatine needs Anakin to try and figure out how to cheat death for himself.

Where we watching the same movie? I watched a trilogy that showed Anakin Skywalker to be the Jedi Order's greatest warrior.

    Yes. He was an embarrassment.

He also disgraced both Sith and Jedi.

Darth Bane's Great plan shattered all because of a whiny little brat.

No wonder people don't think much of him.

lol hes not that bad. give the kid a brake his mom died in his arms if he dident show the expected feelings in that scene then people would think he never had eney good in him. as for the rest the only scene that he was complaining was when padma was packing in AOTC and the first time i seen that movie i went to the bathroom and missed that scene and i allways enjoyed that movie just fine then i saw the scene and it still wasent THAT bad.

Butt Edit: Gotta leave the fan comments out of it.
