    Hello all!

I recently got a tattoo of Anakin's RotS lightsaber and now I'm going to be getting a tattoo of Vader's saber but I'm having a much harder time finding specific versions of his that are canonically correct. Does anyone know of a good resource that would show me the different versions of his saber throughout the films? Or does anyone have any images they could refer me to?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

The problem is that Vader's saber changed during the OT, due to the original prop being lost and a new one was made using a different type of flash handle.

It depends on which version you want. The photo above is ROTJ, TESB and ANH.

In my headcanon, Vader is still a guy who likes tinkering with tech, so he modified his saber offscreen. That means his saber is never "wrong", just different.

    darth-sinister,

Interesting. I never knew that happened. Thanks for the tip. Are there reverse angles of those images somewhere? As in the other side of the lightsaber. Also, I'm guessing for the order you listed RotJ would be the top and ANH would be the bottom, right?

    Thanks!

What I find interesting about the lightsaber designs from ANH is that Luke and Vader's lightsabers are actually pretty similar:
    [IMG][IMG]
The bottom "grip" portions are both striped with the same type of material. And the other end in each is similar as well, with both being sort of slanted (as opposed to the more uniform & circular design of Obi-Wan's lightsaber). And it's interesting because Vader was not even Luke's father at this point! But retroactively, the similar designs make more sense & take on greater meaning since we learn that both sabers were made by the same person. It's a fortunate coincidence and is simply another reason (out of many) that the father reveal in TESB was such a great twist: it had great shock/dramatic value and it held up upon closer examination of the past film.

For reference, here's Vader's ROTS lightsaber hilt:

Make sure you go to a professional tattooist when you get it done.

Because the original sabers were made using existing materials, this is why it became difficult to just make another saber based off the ANH/TESB design, when ROTJ was made. For the PT, the sabers were made from scratch and I think that applied to Obi-wan and Anakin's sabers for ROTS. I don't think they used the same materials. I mean, they could have, but I don't know all the details on that.

The above link shows the differences between the two props. Check the first and seventh posts.

Yeah, Anakin was always a techy, and I don't see that having gone away when he became Vader.
