I'm sure everyone has wondered about what Vader does in his recovering chamber, besides repair himself, but, does anyone wonder how come Vader only uses it once through out the entire Trilogy? twice in one film, thats it.

What does Vader really do in there besides get himself repaired and give instructions to Imperial Officers... does he meditate or something?

Dwell on the past, thinking about how Obi Wan Betrayed him, thinking about turning Luke to the dark side, etc etc.

His Wive... I dunno, its been discussed many times Ive heard, and Ive heard the Novel, but it doesn't explain what extactly it does for him besides repair him.

He's probably in there more than that during the period the films take place in, but there's only so many scenes you can have in there without viewers losing interest.

Probably. He doesn't need to wear his helmet in there, so perhaps he draws some relief from that.

In Shadows of the Empire, he uses the Dark Side to bring strength to his body and almost heal himself. Then when he is almost healed, he starts to feel happy from the relief of pain and reverts back, cause he can't keep up the Dark Side energy. Sorta interesting.

It's also the only place Vader can get nekked and survive. It's a hyperbaric(sp)chamber I think it's called. Pure oxygen and all that. That also comes from SOTE

He has black-light posters and a lava lamp and orange, yellow and black shag carpet (but you can't see that), a red leather couch in the corner, a pull down projector screen to shoow 8mm stag films on....its like Oscar's trashcan....WAY bigger on the inside than you can see.

If Lucas released an eight-disc set of DVDs showing nothing but Vader sitting in his closed sphere, I would still probably buy it.

^I'd rather buy the 8-disc series that solely contains footage of Palpatine shooting electricity at his adversaries.

You know, there is something about that sphere.

How come Vader hopped in there while waiting for the Emperor's message?

It can't have taken but a moment to "move the ship out of the asteroid field."

So we have a questionable line of dialogue, "Move the ship out" (what would it have mattered to the viewer if they stayed there?), an unnecessary shot of the Executor getting clear, and then Vader walking down the steps of his private pod to see the Emperor.

Did he "have to" meditate before addressing his boss?

Interesting segue, though - three holograms appear before Vader, one of whom blows up - dies - before his eyes...

Vader says "Move the ship out of the asteroid field so we can send a clear transmition".

And as big as the Executor is, I imagine it would take a few minutes to get to his private holographic chamber, because it was a private message.

You pretty much answered your own question DarthSithLord. It's a place to come together mentally and physically. Especially without any Death Star for 4 years, Vader needed some place to collect this thoughts.

in reference to why vader is walking out of the chamber before contacting palp. I have two explenations
    1. this was the original opening of the film but was moved.. the clues are in the opining scroll.
    2. he had to "make the call" the controls are in the chamber.

but I really do belive this was th original first scene of the film. it sets up vaders obsession for finding luke. it also is an actual declaration by palps that luke is the new enemey. it also makes sense because it would be immeditly (or soon after) the death star is destroyed.

but thats just an editing decision.

In the novel, it mentions that Palpatine is the one person that still strikes fear in Vader, so I can imagine Vader takes time to gather his thoughts before talking to him in general. However, keep in mind that this is also a very special situation - Vader likely knows the nature of the message is about Luke Skywalker. He's setting himself up to appear docile and agreeable while hoping to manipulate the Emperor into aiding his desire to make Luke his own apprentice rather than destroying him.

I can kinda see how someone may want to think on that before they go out, eh?

Yeah, I definitely agree with you. He needed time to compose himself. In fact, he might have even needed a few moments to clear his mind as much as possible so he wouldn't leak any thoughts that could be construed as... shall we say... treason. ;)

Um, Vader wasn't in his chamber when the word came through to contact Palps. He had just finished choking Captian Needa on the Executor's bridge.

The area where Vader communicates w/Palps is behind his meditation chamber. He's not in it when talking to Palps. Vader is kneeling behind the pod. I figure the reason is because the holo cams are set there.

But before reaching that platform, he is seen walking down the steps of his chamber. Which is to say, he was in the chamber after the choking, but before the contact with the Emperor.

Holograms, dead people, meditation... these topics all a-jumble.

    Wonder why.

So we are playing scaragories now? You replies made no sense.

Instead of trying to be clever and hinting around at your ghost theories why no just come out and say you think Darth Sidious' hologram in ESB is really a Force Ghost?

He did say "Move the ship out of the asteroid field so that we can send a clear transmission."

That could be the reason why he was walking down the stairs of the Chamber. He was probably waiting for the ship to leave the asteroid field.

But why? Why write the dialogue, create the special effects shots, and include the business of walking down the stairs?

Cut straight from "The Emperor commands you to make contact with him" to Vader kneeling before the Emperor... what have you lost?

What have you gained? You have belabored the fact that this is not an in-person discussion, and you have discreetly established that something is doing with the meditation chamber. Hmm.

I know exactly what forum I'm in. You, on the other hand, aren't making any sense.

So you are criticizing how Lucas edited the scene, or how Kersh shot it?

If you have a point perhaps you should make it?
