'Frasier' Star Lands Monty Python Role


Former Frasier star David Hyde Pierce and Rocky Horror Picture Show actor Tim Curry have been named among the cast of Eric Idle's new Monty Python musical. The acting pair and funnyman Hank Azaria will take the leads in the Broadway-bound production of Spamalot. The King Arthur legend spoof, which became cult Monty Python film Monty Python & The Holy Grail, will be directed by Oscar winner Mike Nichols. Pierce, who played Frasier's brother Niles Crane in the hit sitcom, will play Sir Robin and Curry will play King Arthur. Azaria will take on the role of Sir Lancelot. The show is set to debut in Chicago, Illinois, in December, before beginning a Broadway run in February.

Tim Curry is a great actor...but he's not Python material.
(truthfully, nobody today is Python material except for the surviving Pythons)

And David Hyde Pierce should stick to voice over.


I also find it laughable that Moe Szyslack will be playing Sir Lancelot.

I'm praying for a speedy demise for this musical.

And while Tim Curry can be entertaining...he's not who I would ever see as having been anywhere NEAR the original Pythoners. No offense, because the guy can do drag really well and all, but still...

 

I look forward to this. Pierce and Curry don't strike me as Pythoners, but I like 'em both and I think they're funny and since I'm always right that's all that matters.

I agree with the casting, mostly because my boss is one of the producers. But I also think that DHP and Curry can pull it off.
