Honestly surprised there isn’t a thread for this already, but just saw the trailer for the sequel. So excited for walking simulator 2
GOD YES. I love the first game so, SO much. Must have watched this trailer five times already. Cannot wait to obsess over DS2 for the next however many years. Start of the trailer had me wondering if we'd perhaps be playing as Fragile this time around (especially since we see her paired with a BB, presumably Lousie from the first game), but with the introduction of the older (timefall ridden?) Sam later in the trailer, I'd imagine we must be sticking with him as our player character. The crew that Fragile is bringing him into must be where Elle Fanning and the rest of the new cast come into play. Also interesting: the mask seemingly modeled after Amelie's face that the guitarist is wearing at the end. This is the kick I need to finally give the Director's Cut of the first game a go in full, too. I've explored it a little bit, but haven't done a proper beginning to end playthrough of the DC. Here's Kojima Productions' official upload of the trailer: And a poster:
One of the best gaming experiences of my gaming life. That game affected me so much I damn near took to pen and paper to write a thank you letter to Hideo. Ed that would have been unlike me to do.
Jump to 4:00 in this video to hear Kojima's comments on stage at the Game Awards, after the debut of the trailer.
I tried to get into Death Stranding, but the science fiction was a little too abstract for my taste. The gameplay was interesting though, in some ways more fun than Phantom Pain imo.
Yea but you could make grenades from your sith and piss! Game definitely ain’t for everyone and even if it was it could still be a confusing mess. I loved every moment of it. Hopefully with DS2 other players actually help me build some damn roads and zip lines. My server peeps sucked ass and I had to do most myself. Made me kinda proud of myself.
With Sam and Fragile boarding Fragile's ship, the Magellan, in the trailer, I honestly have to wonder if maybe DS2 might not even be a delivery game with the same gameplay/mechanics as the first game whatsoever... The presence of a ship and its crew like that feels like it could be a pretty big departure from what Death Stranding played like. I admit to not really doing much with roads during my initial playthrough of the first game (I intend to be much, much better about that when I play the Director's Cut) but I was all about those ziplines.
Yep. Building those lines through the mountains was so satisfying. I hope we get that kind of stuff in 2. Would be interesting though if like you said this game took off in another direction and ditched the mail route altogether.
So this had nothing to do with the Stars Light Tours standing native people? https://www.inclusivecanada.org/post/starlight-tours
I'm pretty excited to test out a lot of the new gear that's exclusive to the Director's Cut, too. I wonder how much that's all going to alter the gameplay loop/movement mechanics; some of the stuff in the DC's trailers seems like it would make traversing the land a bit easier for sure. Some of my most fond gameplay memories from Death Stranding come from really grueling treks up mountains (and, subsequently, sliding down the opposite side of the mountain on my Floating Carrier like a snowboard ). Man, OK, after watching that DS2 trailer about a dozen times and talking about the first game again, I am REALLY itching for a replay now...
I've still not finished Death Stranding, I really like it but I keep getting distracted by other games. I really need to put some time aside to play. May dive back on this weekend. DS2 looks interesting though. It'll most likely be purchased when released
One other major observation from the trailer: Fragile's skin. Whereas Sam is (at least somewhat, given the gray hair) aged up a bit here (no idea if it is a bit of natural aging, insinuating a bit of a timejump, or of it's the result of timefall), Fragile seems to have actually de-aged since the first Death Stranding. From the neck down, she was withered by timefall in the first game, but there's a lot of exposed skin on her neck, upper chest, and arms showing in this DS2 trailer that's very clearly not been stricken by timefall. This is... a really big deal. I really wonder what this means for her character, and for the overall state of this world, this time around? Death Stranding: DS2:
Like the first game I have zero interest in playing this game but will enjoy following the coverage of it and reading/listening to people's reactions to it.
Also, I'm a bit of a ways into my playthrough of the Director's Cut. Just reached the start of "Episode 3: Fragile" this morning. Also did the first two orders in the Ruined Factory which is new to the DC; looking forward to seeing what comes of that side quest once I'm eventually able to return there and further explore the Factory (which I'm guessing probably won't be until late game [maybe even post-game] when Sam eventually heads back East).
