I believe that Denis Lawson's voice was dubbed over in ANH, when Wedge says, "Look at the size of that thing!"

Did they at least let him say his own lines in TESB and ROTJ?

I don't think he was dubbed but I did hear rumors that the rebel Luke talks with in the Yavin briefing room is not Denis Lawson.

It's not Denis Lawson in the briefing room-I heard he was out sick that day.

So is that rebel supposed to be Wedge or does Decipher cards have a name for him?

I'm pretty sure it's *supposed* to be Wedge. He refered to as Wedge in the novelization anyway.

But as it is not Lawson, it is quite safe to assume that it is NOT Wedge in the briefing room, despite what the novel says.

Don't forget that 80% of a movie's dialogue is re-recorded after the movie is finished. It is likely that Dennis Lawson's voice was redubbed by.....Dennis Lawson! :D

I'm sure it was supposed to be Wedge when they were filming the movie but now the EU can have a new name for that character since Luke never mentions his name in the movie.

Too bad Bib is not around to help. Maybe 2ndQuest will have a name for us if one does exist.

The name Wedge is mentioned by Luke, "Get clear Wedge, you can't do anymore good back there!"

I have no problem believing that's wedge in the ANH briefing...the actor looks enough like the un-helmeted Dennis Lawson that we see in ROTJ to be believable as a younger version of the same character.

Wedge is also referred to by name earlier in the Battle of Yavin:

    Luke: "Thanks, Wedge."

Unknown (heard over comlink): "Good shooting, Wedge."

I meant that Luke never mentions his name in the briefing room so that character doesn't have to be Wedge anymore if at one time it was.

    That is Wedge.

Though it is a different actor...just think of it as what Wedge (circa ANH) looked like without his helmet on ;)

Pablo's old site calls the briefing room guy "Wedge... sort of" on the basis that every published source says the character in that scene is supposed to be Wedge:

    I guess it depends on one's ability to accept mid-film re-casting. :D

He sounds a little 'weird' in ESB, but Lawson's accent is definetely present in RotJ.

There's a special VIP room for Wedge, Sy Snootles, the Wampa and Jabba the Hutt somewhere ;)

Needless to say...Wedge ain't too happy about that, but Wes and Hobbie get a kick out of it...

That's nuts. The guy in the briefing may have supposed to have been Wedge originally, but clearly it's not Denis Lawson, therefore it's not Wedge. It doesn't affect the story in any way whether Luke was speaking to Wedge or another pilot during the briefing, and since that pilot is not the same Wedge as seen elsewhere throughout the OT, it's not Wedge, despite what a card may say.

I'm just providing it as one example of how, despite the actor recasting, he is indeed identified as Wedge.

And, again, it's not the only example of a character's physical appearance switching from scene to scene (though granted that most examples are for non-human characters).

For what we saw of Wedge during ANH, the actor in the briefing room is close enough to pass for Lawson with the helmet on in gthe shots we saw, and 3 years have passed by the time he pops up in ESB.

No. That pilot's name is Wes. Wes Janson, I believe. His name isn't Wedge in the script.

Actually the speeder pilot who finds han and luke in their shelter at the beginning of ESB is Zev Senesca (sp?). Wes Janson is Wedges gunner in the later snow battle ("Good shot janson!").
