I know this has been discussed to hell and back, but is Desertwind (I, Jedi) Anakin Skywalker? He is mentioned as a special man, a great hero of the Clone Wars. and "Desert" wind?

Wow, I've just been looking into Desertwind as well recently.

Nothing official has confirmed Desertwind to be either Anakin Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I do think Desertwind's "tale" would be a great "Republic" PT-era story.

I have admit my mind jumped straight to Obi-Wan being Desertwind - I never really thought it would be Anakin - though either one could be a suspect. Then again, Desertwind seemed to be deliberately set up so that continuity would not conflict with the story being told.

Who knows? Maybe they'll make a reference in Episode III to the scene of Nejaa's death in I, Jedi.

well, I was recently rereading I, Jedi (one of my fav SW books), and I thought "wouldnt it be weird if desertwind was Anakin..." but, it says that this happened AFTER the Clone Wars, so we would have to find whether Anakin turned during or after the CW.

p.s. Nejaa's death scene rocks. I love how he sucked the enrgy out of Nikko Tyri's blade and crushed him :D

Course there is nothing in TPM, AOTC, or the prequel EU to confirm that Obi-Wan originated from a desert.

"but, it says that this happened AFTER the Clone Wars, so we would have to find whether Anakin turned during or after the CW."

Umm, I thought another book said that Neeja died during the clone wars?

So who was the "grandfather" of corran that died during the clone wars mentioned on page 86, of I jedi?

Nothing in I, Jedi said Desertwind originated from a desert either. Desertwind was just Ylenic's classification of the guy's smell, nothing more.

For Obi-wan to smell like a desert he'd have to have come from living in a desert for a long time.

Not necessarily. He called Nikkos Tyris "Nightsweat." That doesn't necessarily mean that he sweats every night. Also, the woman was called Rosewood. That doesn't mean she lived in a wooden house surrounded by roses.

Or just have visited a desert planet recently.

I've always thought that Desertwind was Obi-Wan. In fact, I think that 'Desertwind' would be a perfect name for a novel/comic depicting Nejaa's death. :)

    "Rosewood"

    Rosewood is a type of tree, used for wood. But actually what your thinking of is "Spicewood", which is also a plant on earth, and IIRC, another source stated it was a native plant on Corellia. nightsweat is a real thing as well;

"Profuse sweating at night, occurring in pulmonary tuberculosis and other chronic debilitating affections with low-grade fever."

As for Dustrose, that's a real plant, IIRC, as well.

"Or just have visited a desert planet recently."

Being on a desert planet recently wouldn't be long enough to ingrain the smell into who ever the person was.

Just because a person smells like the desert doesn't mean they actually lived in the desert. It's just that something about the smell of that man reminded Ylenic of a desert wind, nothing more.

If by your logic, the "smell doesn't mean anything", then there is absolutely nothing to point him to being Obi-Wan is there, ;), considering that there are hundreds of Jedi still around at that time).

He could have been any jedi, not necessarily Obi-Wan, or even Anakin, :), by that logic.

...and When asked about who it is, Stackpole won't admit to anything.

"A: he was told to keep it ambiguous"

Every thing was ambiguous, for all we know the red haired Dustrose could have been the mother of mara by the logic used in this thread, ;).

"B:cant tell us for some reason"

He says he wanted it to be ambigous so that people could speculate all kinds of possibilites for who it was.

    "C:doesnt know"

This is what he said in one interview as I recall. But when asked if it was possible to be Obi-Wan, he said sure it's possible if the prequel movies doesn't contradict what was shown in the book.

There's only slightly more candidates for being the identity of Desertwind than there are for governor of California.

It might be Obi-Wan Kenobi but i doubt it, it could be A'Sharad Hett without his Tusken Raider helmet on,maybe he gave up wearing it after the Clone Wars,he was part Human and part Tusken Raider and lived in the deserts of Tatooine most of his life, and he could have looked more like a Human because his fathers genes were superior to his mothers.
