Saga Diary of a Clone

This is not a submission for the DDC 2025.

'There's one in every batch' Rex thought as he observed the log of CT-78543.

It read thus,
" Here on Felucia deployed for recon and combat. The inside of my helmet leaking and wet with rainwater and bug bites are bothering me to no end, and I'm getting so sick and tired of these ration packets. Water is scarce. Oh how I long for the barracks on Kamino and home. I feel so crummy on this mission.

DAY 2
Still miserable. Food rations almost depleted. They may have tasted like dry Bantha castings but at least they were more available yesterday. I'm so thirsty! If only we had more water! Bug bites becoming unbearable. Rain has stopped but now it's way too hot in this Tropical climate. I'm burning up!"

"CT-78543" Rex growled.

"You wanted to see me, Sir?"
"I have reviewed your log. You complain and complain. You should be grateful to be a soldier in the Grand Army of the Republic. Complainers never win. You would do well to remember this. Dismissed."

Five weeks later, Rex reviewed his log once more.

"The fighting here on Muunalinst is intense but we're really giving those clankers what-for. We are advancing rapidly.

DAY 02

We are taking forward positions and advancing toward the enemy. The commander of our Unit has given us all special duties. I am excited."

"CT-78543," Rex said.

"You wanted to see me, Sir?"

"I have been reviewing your logs. You have been improving your outlook on life. Well done. A happy soldier boosts the morale of the rest of the Unit."

"Thank you, Sir, I took your advice."

Rex smiled inwardly. He was glad to know he had been such a good influence on one of his best soldiers.
