I've read some EU that says he survived, what's the official Canon answer?

right now? Nothing. In "Aftermath" someone on Tatooine is buying battered Mandelorian battle armor from the Jawas, if that helps. And Fett's banner is hanging from Maz's castle (but the place has been there for hundreds of years)

So, yeah. He's dead. Right now. but Lucas said he survived and the LFL Story Group still seems to take Lucas' word as gospel.

So I view him as he's Schrodinger's Fett. Alive and dead until we observe otherwise.

The Classic Trilogy answer is that, yes, he died.

The Legends EU answer has him surviving.

Whether he will be in Episode VIII is more for that forum.

As far as the original films are concerned, he died. In the EU he survived, and Lucas has flip flopped back and forth on the subject. He once said had he knew Boba was going to be so popular he wouldn't have killed him off.

    I think he died.
Boba Fett doesn't need to be brought back.
I don't have a problem with him dying in sarlac pitt.

I'm going with the old EU. He escaped. He later trained Jaino Solo and he later helped Daala.

There is a brief shot of someone in Mandalorian armor in The Force Awakens.

^^^ Interesting variation how Luke used the Force with his feet. :D

I was recently told in another message board, that Lucas only confirmed at a convention that everyone aboard Jabba's saling barge died.

IMHO, there is absolutely no reason whatever to assume that Boba Fett died in the Sarlacc
    1. Threepio stated, that the digestion process (with minds alive?) takes a thousand years (?). So the Sarlacc doesn't kill its victims instantly but apparently slowly digests them, perhaps glued to its insides or something like that
    2. Boba Fett was the only one to enter the Sarlacc with his gear. I would be surprised if that kind of gear didn't enable him to get out, some time after the explosion of the sailing barge which - probably also and considerably injured the Sarlacc.

IMO he died in the pit as Jabba says it takes a thousand years to be digested. Now people are free to interpret the events how they see fit but I chose to see him remaining in the pit for a long time and getting himself devoured.

As far as I'm concerned, he's dead. He wasn't an interesting character at all apart from his design, so why even bring him back? Oh right, cause fan service.

I always assumed he died. It seems pretty definitive in the movie. But then again, it's not inconceivable he could use the jetpack to escape. It just seems like if that were a possibility and the jetpack was still functional after Han Solo bumped it, he woud have used it immediately, or indeed used it to avoid falling in the pit in the first place.

He was brilliant in ESB but that is because the script worked for him. He was tailing the Falcon all the way to Bespin. A crucial and thrilling aspect to that film. His minor role only made him greyer and greyer as a character. Add a personality to him and it removes his mystic. Greedo or Lando don't have the grittiness that comes with the bounty hunter role. He is kinda like an evil Shaft.

I'd say some of his mystery and/or enigma goes straight back to those days before the release of ESB. He was the first new action figure, made his entry in the animated film of the SW Holiday Special and was really introduced like some kind of celebrity, so I'm definitely biased here.

Of course I was a bit disappointed about Fett being underused in ROJ, he almost now looks to be the the new OT character that became Captain Phasma in the ST.

According to Robot Chicken he also escaped from the pit. I don't expect people to consider that part of the Star Wars universe but you never know.:)

Boba Fett never dies, he merely allows his enemies to win because it'd be too boring otherwise.

Just bcs it takes years to be digested doesn't mean the victims are alive during it! Of course they'd be dead, either due to being crushed or suffocated. I agree though that Fett had a good chance of surviving in his suit (presumably pressurized & with oxygen) & with all of his weapons & gadgets.

In my head-canon, he escaped before the ingestion happened.
