Did Chewbacca dislike being called Chewie?

One thing I've always noticed about A New Hope is a certain eye motion Chewbacca gives in regards to Han. During their conversation in the Cantina with Luke and Obi-Wan, Han says: "Chewie here tells me you need passage to the Alderaan system."

Watch Chewbacca's eyes when Han calls him "Chewie". He gives Han sort of a "damn, he called me that again" look like he's annoyed by it.

Watch the scene closely and you'll notice it. Nothing really importaint, I just think it's kind of interesting.

 

It's Chewie.

Do you mind being called Bob if your name is Robert? Or Matt instead of Matthew? Chewie has been called Chewie since he was a little Wookiee.

 

I doubt Chewbacca minds. Just nice friendly nickname. Amusing thought, though.

Well, depending on when he left Kashyyyk he was probably called wr-aaaar-gh-hn or something similar

Actually, that's a point. Why do all these Wookiees have similar sounding names when none of them are pronounced like that in Shyriiwook?

Since his dad is called "Itchy", and his kid is called "lumpy", I think he got off pretty easy.

Not a chance. If he disapproved of Han calling him Chewie, he may have had to let that slide, what with his life debt and all, but if he didn't like Luke or Leia calling him Chewie, the wookie surely would have torn their heads off!!!

He loved being referred to as "Walter." However, the lack of communication between the wookie and the major characters was too great.

 

I saw an Italian dub of ROTJ once and they called him "Chewbie". Much worse than Chewie. That look in his eyes probably meant "at least it's not 'Chewbie'".

Why must we refer to these CHARACTERS as actual living breathing beings?!?!

"Sigh" fine I'll play along. Unless Lucas writes it in the script that Chewbacca is annoyed with being called Chewie, then no, he is not annoyed by it.

I agree. You SHOULD have fun on these boards but I swear some people on here just scare me.

 

Hey, at least Han could say Chewie. All Chewie could do was grunt. Wouldn't it have been great if Chewie would have said "Han" just once? Talk about freaking somebody out...
