I have noticed some people's opinions that The Star Wars story seems to have a religious tone to it. And that many of the things that happen in the Star Wars story reflect a great deal from Christianity. And some people even seem to make Anakin out to be a 'Christ like figure'. So do you think Lucas intended it to be that deep? Do you think he meant for Star Wars to be all religious based? And that Anakin would play the role of Jesus Christ? Or suffice to say a Jesus Christ like figure who fell into darkness?

Or do you think people are just looking too much into when they start thinking along those terms?

What Lucas intended is irrelevent. He set out to create a mythology, and succeed in doing so. However, like all mythologies, it is comprised of elements of the True Myth, which is God's intervention in human history.

Remember, Christianity is not the true religion, but rather the anti-religion. Religion is man's attempt to reach up to God in the heavens. Those who walk with Christ and have a relationship with Him know that Jesus was God reaching down to man, even while we were still dead to sin.

In many ways it is similar to the story of the Living Force, taking human flesh as the Chosen One and being cut of from the light of life only to tise again in victory and defeat the Darkness.

Not to an extend. I agree he gives you the cards, and it's up to you to decide how to read them, however, he's dealing them not randomly, but in a specific order which has a quintessential effect.

I am not saying the meaning is whatever the veiwer takes it to be by any means. Just the opposite is true in fact. Not even George Lucas' interpretation can be called correct if it diverges from the true meaning of the films, dspite the fact that he "created" Star Wars. He did not create the archetypes on which the story is based, but merely employed them. The Saga has a single, Ideal meaning in the Platonic sense, and anything which diverges from that is wrong.

Rev what did you mean when you said that Christianity is the anti-religion?

Exactly what I said. It is not man reaching up to God, but rather God the Father reaching down to man through His Son. It is therefore not a religion, but rather a relationship.
