    Hi everyone, I've had this question in my mind for a while now, and I'd love to hear other people's opinions.

    Going by the movie, it seems like Luke's return to Dagobah was the first time he came back to Yoda since he left to save Han and Leia in ESB. ("I've come back to complete my training") On the other hand, his skills as a Jedi improved greatly in ROTJ, so perhaps he returned earlier for more training? But if so, why didn't he ask Yoda about Vader before--or did he, and Yoda simply refused to answer?

    Sorry for running around in circles like that! :p Again, I think that was his first time back, but I'm not sure. What do everyone else think?

    In the EU, he gets tied up a bit in between ESB and RotJ, but there's no clear answer in the OT.

    No, I highly doubt that he returned in ROTJ. He told Yoda that he has returned to finish his training, which I do admit could be the second or third time that he has returned since his initial visit.

    Nope. In ROTJ, Luke says that he has a promise to keep to an old friend. That implies, that since Han was rescued, Luke probably felt that he could keep his word to Yoda and return to Dagobah.

    EU provides an answer. A cool one, too, IMO. :) But in regards to JUST the movies - these probably arent exact but,

    ESB- "I'll return to finish what Ive begun. I promise."

    ROTJ- "I have a promise to keep. To an old friend."

    Those lines seem to connect pretty well. I always thought it was his first trip back to Dagobah. I think thats what we're supposed to think.

    I think.

    Damndest thing. I JUST discussed this, like, seven minutes ago in another forum.

    EU says no.

    Movies don't seem to make any case for him having done so, either.

    Case = teh closed.

    I think it's been summed up pretty well.
    If you're an EUer, take heart in the fact that Luke did extensively practice and refine his Jedi skills on Tatooine and other adventures :)

    No Luke did not go back to Dagobah until ROTJ. That's how it was way back in 1983. It's not that hard to figure out. Heck, even in the EU he didn't go back until ROTJ.
