This thread is not meant to be smut, a serious topic.

From my memory, throughout his life, I can't recall Obi-Wan having a serious romantic relationship.

Do you think he abstained from sexual relations his whole life, while in servitude of the Jedi Order?

    Discuss.

It's just something I've never really thought about. For some reason, it's hard for me to see Obi-Wan romantically involved with someone.

I also somehow find it hard to imagine. Sometimes I feel sorry for Obi-Wan, he had a difficult life, always had very great burdens on his shoulders. But probably we'll never know for sure.

It does seem that he had a very lonely life with a lot of pain and trial and burden and I just can't imagine him being able to fit in a romantic life into it all. Still, you thing that he would still have some kind of romantic relationship at some time, so its weird that it seems that he couldnt.

Well, he had sex with Yoda, for sure... Never noticed how they were close in ESB ? ;)

Hum... Seriously... Well... It's a bit the question of what Luke does before Callista, inbetween Callista and Akhanah, and inbetween Akhanahahahahah and Mara... Does he try to find 'professional' lovers on Yavin(hum...), or 'professional' lovers on whatever planet he travels to (not depicted in books), or 'normal' lovers on Yavin (among his student... oooh... bad boy Skywalker), or 'normal' lovers wherever he goes (after all, he's quite a legend, a lot of girls dream to spend a night with the famous Luke Skywalker throughout the whole galaxy), or does he remains 'pure' ???

For Obi-Wan, well, it's even harder to tell ***minor AotC spoilers*** because the Jedi code is supposed to forbid relationships (I'm not sure about that, however, since I'm not to much into AotC spoilers - I just know it was mentionned once or twice)... ***end AotC spoilers*** So honestly I really don't know... Maybe we'll learn more about that in The Approaching Storm...

Obi Wan died a virgin. Qui Gon died because the multitude of STD's he'd contracted slowed his reflexes down.

    LOL@Gandolf!

Actually, wasn't it a part of wizard mythos (such as the Arthurian Merlin) that their virginity was integral to their power? The minute they lost their virginity, their power went out the window too.

It depends from legend to legend. In some versions of the Merlin legend, he's sleeping around more than Genevere [face_devil]

Generally, it?s actually woman who lose their power to do magic if they lose their virginity. The exception being evil sorcoresses, who actually gain power by sleeping with evil denomic entities.

Gandalf remained celebat, Rand al?Thor definitly is not, Garion is quite happily married. It?s far more usual to see an evil Sorceror who can?t have sex. Those that do usually have bespelled their lovers, who are thenceforth capable of little except feeling awe and lust towards their master.

Really, it all depends on the author. :)

Generally the older the Magician the more integral virginity is to their magic.

So your answer is old obi-wan was a virgin and young obi-wan was a sex god.

"Generally the older the Magician the more integral virginity is to their magic. "

That's just the excuse. The magicians really have a dark secret they don't want the world to know, and no viagra to help them.

I've seen it speculated that part of the rift between Anakin and Obi-Wan may be because Obi-Wan got a little hot for Amidala. If that's the case, we'll have to wait for the movies....

Tiny spoiler. Scroll down to read...

Relationships are against the Jedi Code, except in certain circumstances (Cereans, etc).

And this is yet another reason why I ignore the so-called canon.

But, everyone knows that Obi-Wan was Mara's father, so how could he be a virgin? <SNICKER>

    Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

    It was just too tempting.

Kier_Nimmion - I went through the trouble of including spoiler space, and you just quoted my one sentence without any spoiler space right after me.

wk, that barely counted as a spoiler. It really doesn't spoil anything.

And, about Obi-Wan's virginity...let's just say you guys should try to get your hands on drafts of the Jedi Apprentice manuscripts before they went to the editors.. ;)

Well, obviously Palpatine stole Obi-Wan's mojo.

During the Sith War era, I can note the relationships of Crado/Sylvar and Andur/Nomi. At the Battle of Ruusan I can note the Charny/Githany relationship. When the Sith order changed under Darth Bane, I believe such relationships may have been forbidden.

During the rise of the Empire, there were several Jedi who were involved in relationships (Ki-Adi-Mundi, Anakin, Yoshi-Raph Elan (presumably), and Qui-Gon), but all the Jedi Purge survivors I know of were/became celibate.

The New Jedi Order contains many couples, which may be directly related to the need for more Jedi.

Someone mentioned Wheel of Time, which I believe is a perfect example. In this series only women can use the "Force" without going insane. The order contains many women who ally under a color, which is symbolic of their beliefs. There are scholars, some who use a strict interpretation of the law, some who hat men, and some who love men. This is complicated but I hope you get the gist of it.

At least to the point of TPM, Obi-Wan is a follow-the-code type, but we do see him becoming more rebellious at the end...

Well heck, Ki-Adi Mundi had kids. It's even up on the official site in the database. And if Jedi aren't supposed to have relationships or get married, then the comic writers are definitely not following that. But those are even less canon than the books.
