PT Did Obi-wan see Anakin and Padme kiss at the arena?

It has always seemed to me that when Obiwan said the line, "He's the father isn't he? I'm so sorry." He was actually saying, "I knew all along!"

I watched AOTC the other day, and I wondered if Obi saw Anakin and Padme kiss.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if he saw them kiss there. He already knew Anakin sort of had a crush on her. And I think Obi-Wan knew by the end of the movie anyway. I know it's a very small detail, but if you watch the end of the Geonosis bit after the lightsaber fight where Padme runs to Anakin and gives him a hug and kiss, right before the wipe you can see Obi-Wan [who is like within a meter or two of Anakin] look over and see them kiss.


I always got the impression that Obi-Wan slowly figured it out and sort of ran a little bit of interference for Anakin behind the scenes. I think he played dumb but he really knew, he just cared so much about Anakin that he let it slide.

 

In the arena? I'm pretty sure they stopped before they left the cave and came out into the open where Obi-wan was.

In the hanger he most certainly saw them embrace, I imagine he chastised Anakin about that later but never really believed they stopped seeing each other, and then the leap from "Seeing each other." to Baby was not that far to jump.

 

Interestingly, there was a deleted scene (don't know if it was filmed or not) in ROTS where Obi-Wan finds out about Anakin and Padme, and then Padme finds out that he knows, although he promises to keep it a secret from the council

I'd partially like it to be canon. It would add not only to the sense that all three of them are friends but it would add a lot of guilt probably to Obi-Wan's development

 

Nobody saw the kiss in the arena. From the position where was Obi Wan it was impossible to see it, because he must be in front of the tunnel, and he was in the right. Also, the tunnel was dark and the arena was in the light, so for those who are in the tunnel is possible to see what's happen in the arena, but for those who are in the arena, all the opposite.
Many saw the hug in the hangar (Obi, the clones, maybe Yoda) and probably some saw the kiss but it was a friend's kiss in a stressful situation and a minute before that Padme wasn't sure if Anakin is alive. And also this kiss is her "initiative", not his. So here Obi Wan has no motives to be angry on Anakin.
I think, after the marriage, Anakin became more secretive and tried to hide his feelings, and Padme also did the same, but of course Obi Wan always has doubts that are not just friends, that's why at the end of the conversation with Padme in ROTS he ‘suddenly” asked her if Anakin is the father. Obi Wan felt that it maybe true but i think that he would never ask if the situation wasn't so complicated.

Don't they kiss quickly while riding that bull? I assumed that's what the OP was talking about.

There is that small part between Obiwan and the guy from Naboo (not sure what his name is) when Ani is first assigned to protect her and they go on their way...I can't remember what they said, but it was about trusting Ani and the other guy said he doesn't trust Padme? They were kinda joking but at the same time, it seemed like they both suspected they would somehow hookup.

 

There is no way that Obi Wan could see the love Pledge kiss...

When they come out of the tunnel the pillars that they will be shackled too, and that Obi Wan is already shackled too are way off to the left. No way for Obi Wan to see into the tunnel from that angle.



Furthermore, at the beginning of AOTC Obi Wan senses Anakin's anxiety over seeing Padme. Later in AOTC there is the scene where Obi Wan has to threaten Anakin with expulsion from the Jedi Order if he goes back for Padme...

As for the line from ROTS, yes, Obi Wan always had his suspicions. It's clear from what happens in AOTC and made even clearer when taken in context when Obi Wan pleads with Yoda not to send him to kill Anakin. Obi Wan proclaims he doesn't know where to find Anakin, to which Yoda replies to use his feelings. Next thing we know Obi Wan is at Padme's apartment. So it is pretty clear Obi Wan has had his suspicions, but, probably didn't expect Anakin to go as far as he did (marriage and getting Padme pregnant).

Another thing I think this shows is how the Jedi Order wasn't some over bearing order where Mace and Yoda were doing bed checks every night. It seems the Jedi were free to come and go as they pleased when they weren't on orders or on a mission. They were expected to follow the rules of the order, but, were not prisoners within the order.

 

I've always found this particular scene to be pretty funny. All that big deal about secrecy earlier, and yet it's Padme who pretty much blows it entirely by rushing to Anakin so quickly while completely ignoring Obi-Wan, who can barely stand. Obi-Wan chose to look the other way for sure.

 

Typho is his name and security is his game.

It wasn't really about trust as it was going off and doing something against orders.

Obi-wan: I do hope he doesn't do something foolish.
Typho: I would be more worried about her doing something, then him.

Exact lines as best as I can remember them, and while they weren't exactly joking they seemed to be just expressing anxieties.

 

I guess we know what Obi meant by good job

 

Considering Obi had his thing for Duchess Satine, I doubt he'd begrudge Anakin a little smooch from Padme when she was worried for his safety or they thought they were going to die. Like outwardly because of the code he might chastise him, but deep down he's giving him a Force Fist Bump and saying, "Dude...respect."

In "The Rise Of Clovis", Obi-wan suspected that there was something to their relationship, based on how he was acting. As we know from Lucas, the Jedi are not celibate so they're not going to slap him down if he and Padme have something going on. But if it went too far, then a problem would arise. Obi-wan didn't see their exchange during the fight with the beasts, but he did see them in the hangar and he knows that there is something, but won't push it. In the ROTS deleted scene, by that point, his suspicions were confirmed. He just didn't know how bad it was until he confronted Padme about Anakin's actions.

 

I think Obi-Wan already knew when Anakin on Clone air ship is ordering to go back and get Padme who has fallen onto sand.

Anakin: Turn the ship around!
Obi-Wan: We have job to do!
Anakin: I don't care! Turn the ship around!
Obi-Wan: You will be expelled from the Jedi Order!

It continues, but near beginning of AOTC, Anakin confesses to Obi-Wan, "I'd rather dream about Padme, she's intoxicating." Kenobi responds to this, "Careful Anakin, hyou have made a commitment to the Jedi Order, one not lightly/easily broken." Kenobi already sees Anakin is head over heels in love with Padme.

As for the kiss, I am sure Kenobi saw the one in hangar and might have spied the one in the Arena (since he has Force Vision).

 

He had seen the kiss.

 

How and when? Obi-wan was outside, they were inside. Later, he's busy trying to not get killed while they have their quick peck.

 

I don't think Force senses work like that. I believe it's more along the lines of that he would be able to feel that Anakin and Padme were there, but it doesn't grant him telescopic x-ray vision to see through the walls and observe what they were doing before the carriage took them outside

 

Not sure about feeling them as he's pretty surprised to see them when they're brought out. But they're Jedi, not Kryptonians.

I'd assume Obi-Wan was likely meditating or something while he was there. We don't exactly know how much time passes between him being put there and when Anakin and Padme are chained up to the pillars, so it's likely he was in some kind of trance which was broken once they were taken out there too

 

He didn't see the kiss, but I think he realized that.
Does his irony when he says to Anakin "Good job" have a meaning about that? I believe so
Also, I remember his face when he just sees Anakin and Padmé entering the arena: he seems to be quite surprised, or not?

They've already separated by the time they leave the archway, and Obi-Wan is around a corner to them still.

 

Well if Palpatine knew about their love, I can't imagine how Obi-Wan couldn't.

 

Padme in that scene though. Her white outfit, especially with her stomach exposed, is stunning. As good as slave Leia in my book.
