We all know that Palpatine was afraid of Yoda since he tried to flee from him rather then fight him head on in Revenge Of The Sith and his decision years later to raise the bounty on Yoda's head personally indicates that he was weary of Yoda still being alive with no trace of his whereabouts. But did this fear motivate Palpatine to get Yoda off of Coruscant in ROTS? I think so at least partly. Palpatine has shown time and time again that he will not take any risks if he can avoid it and even if Yoda had not found out the truth before Order 66 commenced, him being at the Temple acting as the sole voice of reason(I.E I think that Yoda would have put a stop to Mace's rushed plan to arrest Palpatine if he knew that Palpatine was Darth Sidious and not just some power hungry dictator) would have thrown Palpatine's plans into jeopardy. Mace was far more arrogant, aggressive, and easy to manipulate into a trap then Yoda as for starters Mace never liked Palpatine and was so loyal to the Republic that quick preemptive action would have been his go to. It also helps that Mace and Anakin never got along well which made Anakin's decision to side with Palpatine easier. Yoda and him weren't best friends true but Anakin had more respect for him then for Windu who he resented. With Yoda on the planet there is a chance that things could be delayed too long in addition to Yoda possibly being able to launch an at least somewhat successful defense of the Jedi Temple. He would have sensed what was happening in ways that Shaak Ti did not at the time. So I think that Palpatine anticipated that Yoda would be the best choice to save the Wookies given his background and purposefully planned the attack on Kashyyyk in order to create this circumstance. There Yoda would have been vulnerable to Order 66 at least in Palpatine's mind. What do you guys think?

I would imagine. Palpatine hoped Order 66 would take care of Yoda. If Yoda and Mace were both on Coruscant, the Jedi would be more organized to strike against Palpatine.

I don't think that was Palpatine who specifically lured Yoda out of Coruscant, his purpose was to lure more masters out of Coruscant so the Jedi Council would be practically without its essential core. I couldn't imagine Yoda going to arrest Palpatine even in the occasion when Anakin informed them who Sidious really is. Yoda style is to sit down and think for a moment. However, with so few Jedi masters left on Coruscant his plan would probably succeed as it happened.

    That would be most reasonable.

It seems Palpatine's plan required both Yoda and Obi-Wan to be far away from Coruscant. This way they couldn't be part of his arrest or help Anakin. Anakin needed to alone with only Palpatine there as a mentor figure. Yoda or Obi-Wan being there could stop his turn to the Dark Side.

When it comes to the arrest, Palpation is afraid of Yoda. Yoda is the only Jedi Palpatine doesn't know he can beat in a fight. Maybe even more of a threat, Palpatine doesn't know how Yoda would confront him. Mace thought he was bringing overwhelming force to arrest Palpatine. Yoda might not underestimate him. In the movie when Yoda shows up it is a surprise attack.

When Kasshyyyk comes up with the Jedi Council there isn't even a debate. Yoda is such an obvious choice, he's the only choice. Palpatine knows this, just like he knows the council won't send Anakin to confront General Grevious if he recommends it. Now does he know they'll send Obi-Wan after Grevious? There are probably so few Jedi available in that moment capable of that mission, that it makes Obi-Wan going very likely.

I agree. Windu can't go because Yoda has already left Coruscant, so the second in command of the Jedi Council must stay in the capital. Not Anakin either because he recommended him. Other available Jedi were too weak. Obi-Wan was the only option.

By "other available Jedi were too weak" I'm referring to the ones Windu brought with him to arrest Sidious.

Right. And Mace brought the best of the best left with him for Sidious. If we take the Clone Wars as part of the story we also see that Obi-Wan has already survived a direct confrontation with Grievous, which makes him the best candidate to fight Grievous again.

Palapatine is brilliant. I feel like the people that argue against his abilities are like the Jedi in the movie, and have been duped into under estimating him.
