When he was meditating during the battle with Darth Maul I'm sure he was foreseeing the future. Even though Qui Gon knew Anakin would destroy the Sith did he know he would turn to the Darkside or do you think he just only seen the future of the events where Anakin throws Emperor Palpatine down the Death Star II's reactor core?

I didn't really think he was foreseeing the future in that battle either.

As far as whether he knew, I don't think he did. I think he knew that Anakin would destroy the Sith Master but I don't think he knew exactly how.

However, I got the impression in his dialogue with Obi-Wan in Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader that he (Qui-Gon) was taking Anakin's turn in stride and knew that he would come back.

    ^ This.

He was just resting, centering himself, controlling his emotions and preparing to continue the fight. He was focused on Darth Maul. The last thing on his mind at the time was Anakin.

I also imagine that short meditation during that fight also involved preparation for retaining his identity after physical death. He may not have known for sure that Maul would kill him, but he had to know that Maul was at least his equal and had a very good chance of killing him.

Of course he didn't know what Anakin would become, or he would have left him on Tatooine, not taken him, and then given him to his Padawan to train when he lay there dying.

"always in motion the future is"
so my answers no, qui gon was resting and if he knew anything surely he would of told yoda and obi wan at some stage before luke left dagobah in tesb or rotj.
both yoda and obi wan told luke he must confront vader and not once did either give any indication that vader/anakin could be turned back.

Well if we take Mortis into consideration, the assumption is that even after death Qui Gon believed fully in Anakin and trusted him to bring balance to the Force, presumably without going dark or else he would have said something like "Don't go the Well of the Dark Side" or something.

Yes, this pretty much sums it up.

I don't think we even need to take Mortis into consideration to take this view. When Qui-Gon died there was no indication yet that he needed to worry about Anakin turning. Our first clue that Qui-Gon, post-death, has any concern about Anakin is when we hear him say "Anakin! No!" in AOTC.

As far as Qui-Gon trying to see the future during the duel in TPM. I'm sure he was just meditating to "center" himself in the Force. If reading the future had anything to do with it, he should have paid more attention to the near future and realized he better not let Maul clock him on the chin with his lightsaber hilt. :p

I'm not sure thats the case. Imagine if, on Tatooine, Qui-Gon received a perfect vision of the future. And in such a vision he sees Anakin going to the dark side, but ultimately achieving his goal in then destroying the Sith. Would Qui-Gon, knowing this certainty, leave the boy on Tatooine and ignore someone he understands will, if taken, no matter the route he takes, save the galaxy? With or without Anakin, Order 66 would likely have still happened. With or without Anakin, neither Yoda nor Kenobi would have defeated Darth Sidious. Darth Sidious would have still found a more than capable apprentice. The Sith would have still ruled, and Anakin, the only known possible saviour, would have been left as a relatively worthless slave on a remote planet. That Anakin might go to the dark side before he achieves what was prophecised would likely still be deemed a price worth paying for the long term good of the galaxy, even if known about in advance.

Regardless, I don't believe Qui-Gon received such a vision, though its certainly interesting to speculate what course of action he might have taken had he done.

We even seem to see Palpatine ruminating on his ultimate plan in Shadow Hunter before TPM.

    Exactly.

Palpatine was going to put forth his plan whether Anakin joined him or not, and his plan would have been just as destructive. He wanted Anakin because Anakin was powerful, sure, but he didn't need him to put his plan in action.

Additionally, leaving Anakin on Tatooine would have most likely meant no Luke or Leia, who both played important roles in defeating Palpatine.

I agree with the camp that says he didn't. As somebody I believe mentioned in an earlier post we heard him in a worried voice say, "Anakin no" after he began to slaughter the Tusken Raiders meaning that he wasn't expecting him to do evil.

I really wish we had the scene for REVENGE OF THE SITH where Qui-Gon was supposed to return as a ghost. .That would've cleared this up, and it would've also had great dramatic ramifications if we saw his reactios to what happened seeing as he put all his faith in Anakin.

Actually, the Qui-Gon scene in the ROTS script says nothing about Anakin.

I agree with the other posters but I will elaborate.

I felt the scene was meant to highlight the difference between Sith and Jedi. Maul was intently furious, pacing like a cornered animal. Qui-Gon was calm, introspective, and meditative. I don't think he was seeing the future, at least not at that moment; he was preparing for battle.

Really? You would of thought that'd be brought up in a conversation between those two, concerning everything that just happened.

Yea I heard that in expanded universe or something Qui Gon is devastated about Anakins turn to the darkside but then knows later on Luke will grow up and bring him back to the good.

The fact that it's "really" Qui-Gon has nothing to do with it. His name is in quotes because whereas I can realistically address a post to you , I can't "address" Qui-Gon Jinn in the same sense (i.e. realistically) .....

.....that is, unless you're revealing that you're a fictional character. ;)

    but then....

Hypothetical question: if one's future is "determined" by the Force as the above quote indicates, how can one also " choose which destiny is going to be yours" , or "choose to either follow it or not" ???

Maybe you're simply misinterpreting the Qui-Gon quote. You're also seeing it devoid of context, which is not your fault, but in context it's a response to Obi-Wan saying he should have made sure that Anakin was dead. That makes the interchange noticeably similar to the discussion between Gandalf and Frodo in The Shadow of the Past in which Frodo laments that Bilbo did not kill Gollum. As Gandalf indicates, even the wise cannot see all ends, and Gollum/Anakin may yet have a part to play. In any event, Lucas' position on so-called destiny is clear, and it certainly outweighs one specific contradictory interpretation of a C-canon quote. In Lucas' view, you can choose to follow your destiny or not, and he even alludes to multiple "destinies" or optional paths. This explicitly contradicts alleged global determinism on the part of the Force ( a position which ultimately leads to its own logical problems even in the absence of Lucas' viewpoint ). What Lucas conspicuously does not say is "...but it doesn't matter if you choose not to follow your destiny, because the Force must allow everything that happens, so it won't allow you to not follow your destiny, so you really don't have a choice, and there is really only one destiny and only one path, so just disregard all that other stuff I said."
