We know from the ROTJ that the Emperor had several reasons to visted the battle station - motivating his troops, overseeing the conversion of Luke, and the Alliance fleet trap - but what would have happened if he and the death star had survived the battle of Endor?
Would he have stayed on board and made the battle station his home and base of operations? Would he have ruled the empire from there, or would he have returned to Coruscant and his palace?

    No idea.

But he'd have probably gone back to Coruscant and stayed living there, if Star Wars Infinities is anything to go by (which, to be fair, probably isn't at all, but it's the closest storyline we have relating to it.)

If he'd planned to make the Death Star a permanent or semi-permanent home, I'd think he would have commissioned a more comfortable throne room than a space over a reactor core. :p So, I'm going to say no.

That was just his office. He also had the penthouse suite on the 43rd floor

Eh, the 43rd floor is, like, the subbasement on something that big. :p

I'd be sure that was just his living place/office while he was actually on the Death Star, but that's all. He is too much of a "politician type" to permanently leave the familiar surroundings of the city as well as perhaps his (I'm assuming) luxurious accomodations on Coruscant.

If I were palps and had survived Endor I would give either vader or Luke a DS, both if they both somehow lived. Then have another one made to stay at Coruscant for defense and to be used as my own personal planet busting traveling yacht. Complete with swing set.

Not to mention what a difficult shape it is to wrap.

Incidentally, if Vader and Luke both survived and were still dueling, they could have some pretty epic fights if they each owned a Death Star.

Not sure if he intended to live permanently on the second Death Star, but he sure intended to live on it longer than he did. His visit was short and did not end well. [face_laugh]

A pool and an amusement park. I was allowed to put those things on my Death Star.

The only reason he was there was just more bait for the Rebel Alliance, not that they would need much more bait after a planet destroying superweapon.

I think he would have returned to Coruscant after he had turned Luke and destroyed the rebellion.

Why would Palpatine ever want to leave the place that assures he's never going to have to lose his seat as the Emperor of the Galaxy forever? If the Empire had completed it, the second Death Star would've been invincible from destruction from every known weapon in the GFFA. Bigger than the first Death Star, but without that dabilitating achilles heel. He wouldn't have left once it was completed, great possiblity he would've just drove it around to galaxy to different planets who had annoyed him in the past and pushed the button that fired the big laser. Say goodbye to all the alien species, Naboo, Chandrila, Corellia, and so on.

Unless Vader put a giant cork on the ray causing the death star 2 to blow itself up. You know those sith get sick of each other quick.

Vader: *just after placing the cork* All right so I'm gonna take off, there's a SaberShack I've been meaning to check out, give the old weapon a new twist...
Emperor: But it looked fine the last time I checked.
Vader: *flying away in his ship* No you never know when a fine tuning would come in handy, better safe than sorry, you know how it is.
Emperor: Make it quick... *to his troops* Fire the death star at Naboo!
Vader: *intercom* By the way, you suck. Seriously, lightning was the only thing you offered to teach me which I can't use anyway you big goof. Not to mention the fact that the AC in this suit became faulty, I mean come on. I turned to the dark side for this?
    *death star blows up*

It's an interesting question, but ultimately I would have to say no, he wouldn't.

Remember, according to the EU the Emperor was still seen as a benevolent and kind leader and the rock of the New Order to trillions of sentients and millions of worlds. He couldn't been seen rolling around on either DS blowing up planets and committing massacres. He needed plausible deniability and would need willing subordinates to do such a thing. For the first DS, he had Tarkin to take the heat and the hate.

So, the commander of the DS2 would probably have been Vader or a Grand Admiral or Grand Moff. But that guy would have been surrounded by enough of the Emperor's other minions to make sure that leader toes in line.

That would allow the Emperor to stay at the center of galactic power, Coruscant, and stay on top of the various levers of power in the Empire.

    LOL

Vader: Now, children, I will teach you what the Emperor would not teach me.
Darth Dochter: If he wouldn't teach it to you, how do you know it?
    Darth Zoon: Yeah, good question.
Han (in Mando armor): I can't believe I'm Vader's new right hand.
    (Darth Zoon fries Han.)
Han: Okay, I won't say "right hand" around you, Luke.

Yeah, I can't imagine he'd be happy with some Governor running the most powerful weapon in the galaxy.
What if the next Grand Moff decied to point it at Coruscant one day and take him out?

It's like a car, you just stick a giant bow on it.

Bumper death stars sounds like an awesome idea to me.

He had a home on Byss, but he probably had homes on other planets as well.

The big dish that had the laser arrays wasn't just an offensive weapon. It could also capture every cable system in the known universe. At the very least Vader and Palps would visit the Death Star once a year for the annual superbowl party.

What kind of mileage does the DSII get anyway? If Palps was planning on living there he'd probably want to know that. Not to mention trunk space,,,
