Did the Jedi know the real reason Anakin turned to the darkside, or do they think he turned to the darkside because he was greedy for power. Do they know that the initial reason anakin considered joining palpatine was because he wanted to save Padme. He told Yoda of his premonition of someone close to him dying, and Obi-wan knew that anakin and padme were together and that that padme was pregnant. In the OT when explaining to Luke how Darth Vader betrayed the jedi they never mention Padme, which maybe because George Lucas never intended on doing the prequels, but still, based on the PT do Yoda and Obi-wan know why Anakin became Palpatine's apprentice?

First there's no indication in movie to suggest that Kenobi knew for certian that Anakin & Padmè were actually together until ROTS when he comes to her in search of Anakin's location. That being said, I belive that Yoda was able put the pieces together better than Obi did(after Pad's death)...to make it short thats the reason why he tells Luke he must confront Vader not kill him like Ben said.

I imagine that they managed to figure out a general account of what had happened based on what Obi-Wan saw on Mustafar, but I doubt they knew all of the details.

I think Yoda definitely knew. If you look and listen to the way Jedi Master Yoda carries himself during the first half of ROTS I always get the feeling Yoda knows that Anakin is worried about Padme (particularly during the scene when they are in the private room with the shadows covering their faces), but Yoda doesn't say anything with the belief that he must train Anakin to deal with his own problems and not get too involved.

Everything that Yoda and Obi-wan learned on why Anakin turned to the Dark Side, they learned it from Anakin himself. Anakin told Yoda that he's been having visions of a loved one dying and Yoda figured out that he's talking about Padme since he saw them cuddling on Geonosis. When Obi-wan arrived on Mustafar, he overheard Anakin saying to Padme that he turned to the Dark Side to save her and after finding out that she's pregnant with Anakin's child, Obi-wan assumed that Anakin is protecting his child from being taken by the Jedi.

Learning all of this is the reason why Obi-wan and Yoda tried to stop Luke from saving his friends on Bespin.

i believe yoda did know the real reason as to why anakin turned to the dark side i however disagree with anyone who says he turned to the dark side to protect the child from being taken away rom the jei because he turned to the dark side to save padme from dying in child birth because that was what he saw in his vision not the child being taken away from the jedi

Seeing how Anakin went dark gives a lot more weight to Obi-Wan telling Luke that his feelings for friends "do him credit but can be made to serve the Emperor." Its a lot more scary to hear that when you know how Palpatine got Anakin to serve him by manipulating his feelings for Padme.

Not knowing what happens to the child is all the more reason why Anakin turns against the Jedi. Obi-wan even told Luke that the only reason why Luke is living on Tatooine is to hide him from his father.

Obi wan knew probably because of the conversations he had with Anakin in Attack of the Clones and ROTS.
Yoda could of probably detected the attachment.
I think that Mace knew Anakin was a little too dependent on Palpatine and sensed that it was trouble knowing now that Palpatine is a Sith.

The rest of the council,I doubt it

I'm gonna say Yoda and Obi Wan had their suspicions. But I think the other Jedi thought it was just Palpataines influence on him, and Anakin obviously being the most powerful was just taking his oppurtunity to gain more power and rule.

According to Yoda it "clouds everything". Sounds like a one of those crooked mediums to me, but if he is not lying through his teeth then, as usual, he (along with the rest) is clueless.

You don't need to use the Force to construct a case based on evidence.

I do not have faith in the Jedi to ignore the force (if that is even possible for them) and analyze without over-analyzing.

I don't see why you think it would be so hard for them to put two and two together about Anakin. Obi-Wan knew about Anakin's feeling towards Padme, knew that Anakin was the father of her child, and saw their discussion on Mustfar ended with Anakin freaking out about her betrayal. Yoda knew that Anakin had been struggling with visions of someone close him dying. It's a fairly open and shut case once the Jedi know what they know at the end of RotS.

Yoda really should get it by the end of ROTS.

IN AOTC, he feels Anakin's "pain" from across the galaxy on Tattooine. It is so strong that it brings tears to his eyes. In theory, he either asks Anakin about it, or ignores it because of the War. In ROTS, Anakin comes to him and tells him about a dream pertaining to attachment. At this point, the alarm bells should be going off in Yoda's head.

I truly think that by the time we see Yoda again, he's spent 20 years meditating on "WTF did I let happen to a 1000 years of peace and order?!? WTF was I thinking?!?"

    Yeah, I think Yoda knew.
And in The Revenge of the Sith novel by Matthew Stover there is a deleted scene (it appears in the script) in which Obi-Wan visits Padme and all but makes clear that he knows about her and Anakin, so I believe he had a pretty good idea why Anakin turned.
