Did Vader give Lando a little force choke on cloud city? As a kid I thought so. It's when Vader is in the elevator and talking to Lando about giving Han to the bounty hunter. Lando doesn't really say much more and has a funny look on his face after Vader says "pray I don't alter it"

Nope, it was simply a threat. Lando knew of Vader's reputation by that point, so when Vader threatened him, Lando wisely backed off.

Yeah, I don't think he did the choke. Lando was just scared as hell.

I don't know, but the movie novelization says that vader gave him a little choke, just to warn him what might happen if he stepped out of line..

I don't see anything in the movie that would indicate a choke. That looks like artistic licensing on the part of Donald F. Glut.

I don't think Vader gave just "little chokes". That wasn't his style. :p I think Lando was just scared because Vader was in total control of the situation by then and was threatening to change their deal even further.

Yeah, like the others said, it was just a threat. No choke needed or used.

If you go back and watch, you'll see Lando raise his hand to his throat, in that "ive just been slightly choked" kind of way. So, yes, Vade did give Lando a slight choke.

That's a sign of stress. My grandma does that whenever she's worried about someone. It doesn't mean Darth Vader is choking her.

Perhaps the Gamorrean guards at the start of ROTJ were also stressed when Luke entered ;)

Employment at Jabba's had...um, a high turnover rate. No doubt it was stressful. :p

I ssem to recall that the actual scene of Vader choking Lando as a warning was in the Marvel comic adaptation as well as the novel, but I can't be sure.

I've always taken that gesture of Lando raising his hand to his neck as a sort of flinch, indicating either that he knows what he's in for, or that he's already received a definite warning.
Whether or not there was a scene shot of Vader giving him a brief Force choke, I don't know. It certainly would have fit in quite well as part of a running joke - once Lando's finally escaped Vader & tries to help the Rebels, the first thing Chewie does is, yes, choke the hell out of him. The look on Lando's face after Chewie lets go is priceless in that context.

There are many ways people express stress. Some are definate physiological responses, such as increased heart rate and respiration, others are just how people respond. Some examples would be biting nails, twisting earlobes, wringing of the hands, getting shaky, or the example you listed.

So, based on your logic, when Solo was shaking after Leia freed him from the carbonite, he wasn't suffering hibernation sickness, he was just stressed, that,s all.

Vader used the Force to slightly constrict Lando's trachea, sending him a message about who's in charge.

    I'm still not convinced.

Whenever did Vader just "warn" someone? I mean, he wasn't that type of guy. You don't get a reputation like his when you warn people. He didn't warn Lando that he never planned on keeping his side of the deal in the first place. Considering the torture they went through at the hands of Vader, him just giving Lando a "little choke" is rediculous.

There just really isn't anything that proves that this is more then a viewer's imaginative elaboration.

So you're saying Darth Vader actually is choking his grandma? [face_laugh]

Exactly. Vader's words were enough of a warning for Lando... no "little choke" necessary or given.

I think Lando just felt his world was closing in on him. Like he was being suffocated.

Vader was constantly giving subordinates a taste of what's to come if they screwed up. That loudmouthed general on the Death Star, Admiral Ozzel got the stinkeye after trying to convince Vader that the Rebels weren't on Hoth, "don't fail me again Admiral" Piett, and the Moff Jerjerodd motivational speeech. If Vader just offed a subordinate the second they screwed up, Piett would have been toast in the asteroid field.

I always wondered about that myself. I have a theory though. I don't think Vader did a mind choke, but I do think the power of suggestion was at play. Like all Vader had to do was wiggle his fingers together and everyone within twent feet of him would instinctively reach for their throats.

^Lol, yeah I can see that.

And the choke in the TESB novel is in the carbonite chamber after Lando attempts to argue with Vader over Leia and Chewbacca's status.

It's only a choke if you see Vader do the hand gesture that goes with it.
