So who here likes these movies? I love the first one. It's in my top 3 Disney Animated movies. Sequels were ok but not as good as the first one. I loved Robin Williams as the genie and the songs were very catchy to.

The first one was brilliant, hilariously funny. The first sequel was terrible, missing the Genie as voiced by Williams.

But the third one was pretty close to being just as good as the first one. Orbach and Rhys-Davies were brilliant and the themes (of fathers and sons coming to terms with each other) were great. Even the thieves were intelligent and interesting.

are we struggling that badly for quality thread ideas ?

sorry to sound harsh, just questioning the validity of a disney cartoon in the sci-fi/fantasy forum.

of course I prefer the dark side of science fiction, and find Aladdin (which I have watched btw), a little tame for discussion.

however, um, if you want you thread, then you go ahead ;)

(p.s. robin william's performance was gold)

The first film is my favourite Disney movie. I thought The Return Of Jafar was ok (Iago is really the one who makes it watchable) but definitely not better than the first and I've only seen a bit of the third.

Robin Williams made it. Which is why the sequels lacked something. Aladdin without the Genie is no Aladdin I know.

I saw the first one in theaters. Really enjoyed it then. I don't think I could stand to watch any of them now though. Gilbert Godfrey's voical cords should be removed and used only for Afflac commercials.

As far as I'm concerned, there's only one true Aladdin film: the original. It's a fantastic adventure, with a terrific performance by Robin Williams and an amazing score by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman. One of my all-time favorite Disney movies.

While the sequels were decent entertainment (certainly better than the other Disney DTV sequels), they pale in comparison to the original in every regard (story, animation, voice work, music, etc). I don't even consider them canon. The ending of Aladdin leaves us with the image of Aladdin and Jasmine off into a whole new world to live happily ever after. But if you believe the sequels (and the TV series), it takes them a hell of a long time to get married, let alone be happy together. I feel that this takes away some of the magic from the original.

I remember loving the television series as a kid, but I barely remember anything about it, 'cept that guy with the skeleton arm.

Ah yes, Mozenrath. He was a pretty cool villain.

My issue with the Aladdin / Jasmine relationship aside, I actually like the TV series much more than the two sequels. The show also gave Dan Castellaneta more time to make the Genie his own.

I love Aladdin! Princess Jasmine is my homegirl.

I've seen the two that come after the original, but I don't really remember them.

I saw 1 and 2 as a kid. Didn't really do much for me. And yes I did like Jasmine and Jafar. The Genie was pretty cool as well. Didn't really like when he turned evil.

When did the Genie turn evil? He was controlled by Jafar for a while, but that wasn't his fault.

I seem to be in the minority here, but the Genie was my least favorite part of the movie. I guess I didn't like Robin Williams, or that style of humor, even that young. But I enjoyed the movie overall. One of the most amazing Disney films, together with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Also put computer graphics to very good use; the escape from the Cave of Wonders was an amazing sequence. I still watch it relatively often.

That's what I meant. That scared and upset the crap out of me when I was 6. I liked the Genie.

yeah, I must say it's pretty creepy when the Genie is lifting the palace onto the mountain and the sky is all dark and everything.

For the life of me I really can't remember anything from Return of Jafar...but I remember thinking it was ok...King of Thieves was definately a step-up though.

I remember the show too: good stuff. Anyone else remember the chick who had the hots for Aladdin and kept trying to steal him away from Jasmine? I always thought she was pretty hip: Aladdin was such a bubble-head - he shoulda dumped Jasmine for her. :p

That's one of my favorite visual moments from the film. Very reminiscent of "Night on Bald Mountain" from Fantasia.

Another great moment for me is Jafar's dark rendition of "Prince Ali". I've always loved villain songs and this brief one is among the best.

Prince Ali, yes it is he,
But not as you know him

Disney's Aladdin is really up there, together with The Lion King. Even if the story isn't original, the whole presentation is. I've been watching the TV series for years, even wrote some dozen episodes on tape. I think they're very fun and funny (Iago simply rules!).

The first movie, wow, I can never grow tired watching it. The work done there is better than any CGI animation film thiese days. I mean, did you take a look at the forthcoming movies? The Wild, Over The Hedge, some other stuff, all with fury animals, scuicking, hoping, screaming, yelling, crashing on each other, trying to be funny. Aladdin's funny moments still make me smile: I can never grow tired of watching the palace guards hunting Aladdin at the market, or Genie's introduction.

Plus, the songs were fantastic, it was one of the first soundtracks I've bought.
