Title: Begin Again Author: Charity Rose Fandom: Divergent Genre: Mystery, Action/Adventure, a hint of Romance Characters: Existing end-of-Allegiant characters, plus a few surprises Timeframe: During/After lab scene with David, AU ***Author's Note*** A couple of things: 1) I will be switching points-of-view frequently, so if you get confused, it might be because the POV changed, 2) I probably won't be updating on a regular schedule, but I wll try to post as often as I get done with each chapter, 3) Feedback would be greatly appriciated, as I am only an emerging writer. Thanks! Chapter 1: Tris' POV I enter the code and hit the green button, then fall to the ground, not even feeling the pain from where I was shot twice in the stomach. There are spots in my vision, but I see one thing clearly; my mother. She comes out from behind David, stretching her arms out into a hug. This can't be happening! I think. But it is. "Is my time done?" I ask my mother. "Only if you believe it is, my dear. You have a choice: come with me to a place where no pain exists, or return to your friends, but feel excruciating pain and loss." Which do I choose? I don't know if I can take all the suffering anymore. But I think, What would Tobias do? Tobias would not just give up on life like a coward; he would carry on, forever and always. So that is what I must do. Carry on for him. My Tobias. "I choose life," I tell my mom. "Ok my darling. Until I see you again..." Mother says, and then she's gone, bringing the light and surroundings with her.
Chapter 2: Tobias' POV We pull up to the compound and check to see if Caleb did his job. It looks like he did, but then I see Cara sitting by the statue, crying. Immediately, I know something is wrong. I jump out of the car right before it stops and run to Cara. "What happened?!?" I demand, "What's wrong?" "It's Tris... She, She went into th-the lab instead of C-caleb. She's in the ho-hospital." I don't know what I do next, or how I get to the hospital, but I find myself asking the nurse at the desk about Tris. "I'm sorry," she says, "but I'm afraid that you can't see her right now. She is in the middle of surgery, and we don't know if she will survive." Chapter 3: Tobias' POV She has to survive. Tris is strong. I know she will live. She must. I don't know what I will do without her. Since I can't go see her, and I would get thrown out if I beat up the nurse, I sit down in one of the waiting room chairs. Running around and worrying about Tris distracted me from the fact that I'm starving. Only now when I sit down do I remember. I ask the nurse how long it will be until I can see Tris, and she says that it will be about 6 hours. I have time before I can see Tris, so I take care of the gnawing hole in my stomach, then take a nap. I set my timer for 4 hours, than fall fast asleep. ~Time Skip~ I wake up to the annoying sound of my alarm beeping. Time to see Tris I think excitedly. But what if she doesn't remember me, what if she didn't survive after all. Well, there's only one way to find out. Chapter 4: Tobias’ POV I walk across the big lobby and stop at the hospital waiting room. I know that I can't go back there without checking in, so I do, and ask what room she's in. "746," the nurse says, and I sprint down there, only stopping when I realize that I'm lost. What? I think Where am I? How did I get here? Where's Tris? I turn around in circles until I find a sign pointing me to the 700s wing. After what seems like hours of wondering around, I find room 746. I look to make sure it is the right room, and I see something that makes my heart skip a beat...
First off, welcome to the NSWFF side of things! It is great to see a new face posting here. Your story has me intrigued so far, and I am looking forward to reading more.
Chapter 5: Tris' POV ^about 15 minutes earlier^ The first thing to come back to me is feeling. I feel my toes and fingers. My arms and legs. Then I start to hear voices. There is one voice that I haven't heard since, since... The simulation attack on abnegation!! But I can't place the voice. If only I could! Maybe I can. My sight comes back next, and I am blinded by white lights. I open my eyes again and I'm in a white room with tan trim. A hospital room. Oh great. What happened this time? I think. Then I remember. David, the memory serum, and the gunshot wound memories come flooding back to me. When they have finished their mental bombardment, I look to see who the mysterious voice belongs to. Will! Oh My Gosh! I stare in surprise. "Oh, your awake," he says with a smile. It's all I can do to stammer, "I thought you were dead! We all did! Christina was crushed!" "She, she was? We had a fight and I didn't think she liked me anymore. I would've contacted you sooner if I had known!" "Forget contacting us!" I almost scream at him, "How are you even alive in the first place?" Quieter, "I watched you fall to the ground after I, after I shot you." "Some undercover doctors from the Bureau saved me. They said that I should wait to reveal it to you, and I thought that this would be a good time." "This?!? You think THIS is a good time?" I'm really yelling now, "What about when we were at the Amity farms? What about before I went to Erudite HQ? What about before this whole thing with David and memory serum happened? What about those times?!? Why did you wait until now? I confessed that I killed you to Christina and Cara under truth serum. You couldn't have revealed yourself then?" I turn away from him now. How could Will have let me—us—live like this for so long? I look out the windows now and see... Chapter 6: Tris' POV Tobias! Just staring at me. I gesture for him to come in and he does. He sits down by my bed, looking at Will with complete awe and confusion on his face. ~Tobias' POV~ I see Tris... with Will! How is he alive? Tris confessed killing him, so he should be gone, right? But there he is. I see Tris yelling at him so something must be off, although I don't know what. I wait for Tris to notice me, and she does. She gestures for me to come in, so I do. I sit down on the bed, staring at Will. "H-how are you alive? Tris said she killed you!" "Apparently, some 'undercover bureau doctors' saved him. He didn't let us know that he was alive until now because of some pathetic fight he had with Christina," Tris tells me, clearly furious. "I can explain..." Will tries to tell me, but Tris cuts him off. "Explain?!? Explaining to Tobias is the least important and threatening thing you have to worry about, mister. What are you going to do when Christina comes in here and finds out, huh? You have a death wish right now, Will. A ****ing death wish." "I- Tobias?!? Whatever... do you think she will really be That mad at me?" I give Tris a death glare and respond before she has a chance to rant on Will again, "I guess we will find out, because Christina is right there."
Another emotional packed update. I am not really familiar with Divergent as a whole, but I am enjoying the story you are crafting so far.
Thanks! Mira_Jade It really means a lot to me! I'm glad that someone's enjoying it! next chapters out soon!
Chapter 7: Christina's POV I saw Four briskly walking up to the nurse's counter and questioning that poor lady. I mean, we're all anxious about Tris, but seriously, he needs to chill out! Wait, what?!? I think after I see Four sprint down the hall. We must be able to see Tris! I walk up to the nurse and ask about Tris. "You must be with the man who was just here," she responds, "Like I told him, Ms. Prior is in room 746." I thank the nurse and start walking there. I may be excited to see Tris, but with Four being so protective, I am in no rush to get there. I decide to check on Uriah before going to Tris. No improvement. The doctor says that he is getting worse, if anything. After the doctor is gone, I take a deep, shaky breath and go to Tris's room. It is truly a sight to behold. A sight that almost makes me faint. Almost. Four is sitting on Tris's bed and they are talking to Will. Totally normal... Wait! Will? I thought he was dead. I have to get to the bottom of this! I walk in, determined to get answers, right after I finish melting from Will's sweet voice. "Christina?" He asks. I can't talk. I try to, but nothing comes out. I just numbly walk up to him and hug him. I never thought I would be able to do this again! So how am I doing it now? ~Will's POV~ She hugged me. Out of all the things she could’ve and probably should’ve done, she hugged me? I'm so confused, so I say her name again, "Christina?" "Will!" Christina says as she pulls back, "How are you alive?!? Tris shot you..." "Sit, Christina," Tris says. She's still mad at me, "Will here has a whole lot of explaining to do." Christina turns to look at me. "Explaining? What's she talking about, Will?" Chapter 8: Will's POV Explain. Oh man! How do I do that? Where do I start? "Well," I say, "Why don't I start with how I'm alive? After I was, ummm... shot and the simulation soldiers moved out of the area I was in, some factionless found me and took me to this secret medical facility run by the Bureau. There, the doctors fixed me up, and I got this..." I pull up my shirt to show them the metal cylinder in my chest. There are wires going in and out of it. I hear gasps from everyone while I'm putting my shirt back down. I then continue my explanation. “I woke up in a red brick room with no memory of what had happened the night before or how I got there. It all got explained later, but at the moment I was like a primal beast; I needed to get back home. I needed to get back to you, Christina. I didn’t care about the fight, I was that scared and desperate,” I pause for a second. The look on Christina’s face made my eyes tear up. I can’t stand to see her this upset! I am about to start talking again when Christina falls against me and starts to sob uncontrollably. We just stand there for about 5 minutes; her sobbing, me hugging her, and the rest of the room (aka Tris and Four) sitting there awkwardly. When Christina and I finally release one another from our grips, she looks as bone tired as I am, physically, emotionally, and mentally. “Why don’t we finish this in the morning?” Four suggests. “Great idea,” and, “Sounds good to me,” were the replies from Christina and Tris. I just shrug. “Oh I almost forgot!” Chris exclaim-yawns, “Will, you don’t have anywhere to stay, do you?” I hadn’t thought about that, but now that I do, I realize that I don’t have anywhere to stay. “No, actually, I don’t.” “Want to stay with me until you get your own room?” Christina asks. “Actually, yes, if that’s okay.” “Yah, it’s fine! Here, let’s go. Goodnight Tris, Four!” “Goodnight!” I just wave as we go. Honestly, I was really glad to get out of there. Tris kept glaring at me the. whole. time. It was kind of scary, having the wrath of Tris Prior directed at you. But, whatever. I’m back with my friends and my girlfriend, and that’s all that matters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Heheheh, Iron Man reference! I feel a plot bunny coming on, so I might not post for a couple of days. Hope you liked chapters 7 & 8!
Thanks! NYCitygurl I'm soooo glad you like it! Heheheh, I might have had a incy-weensy bit of evil-author-itis while writing chapter 9 *coughs*...
Chapter 9: Christina's POV I walk Will back to my room. Luckily, I got a room with two beds, so Will can be in one and me in the other. I’m glad to see my boyfriend again, but I’m not ready to sleep together just yet. I’m, I don’t know! I love seeing him again after I thought he was dead, but why did he wait so long to tell us? That must be why Tris was glaring at him the whole time he was explaining. I can understand her. I, I just don’t know about this. The Will I know and love wouldn’t wait, even if we had a fight. He would have come and found me: right away. Well, I guess I’ll just have to let this run its course. We finally get to my room, and fall asleep. ~Tobias' POV~ Thank goodness Will’s gone. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good guy, but there was something kind of off about him tonight. His cover story seems bogus. Yes, the bureau had some eyes in the city, but they usually stay out of matters like what happened to Will. It just doesn’t make sense. Tris sees my far off look and asks if I’m okay. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… tired, and I’m willing to bet that you’re even more so.” A nod is all I get in response. “Go to sleep, Tris. I’ll be back in the morning.” I get up to leave. “Wait,” I hear from Tris’ bed, “Don’t go. Please?” “Sure, but you have to scoot over.” “Mmhmm.” She scoots over and I get into bed. By the time I’m settled, Tris is fast asleep and I’m left to my thoughts. Maybe I’m being paranoid about Will, but he didn’t seem like him tonight. Then again, who would after what he’s been through? I can feel myself drifting off more each second. Stop worrying about it tonight the voice in my head tells me, just sleep on it. Needless to say, I take the voice’s advice.
That's definitely unsettling about Will. Those were another great few updates, and I am looking forward to where this is going to go.
Chapter 10: Tobias' POV I wake up to the sound of nurses leaving Tris’ room. Sitting up, I look at the clock; 9:00 am. Wow, I slept in! Tris isn’t awake yet, and I’m feeling crummy, so I go to shower, only stopping to leave a note for Tris. ~Christina's POV~ I wake up and turn over. Will isn't in The bed next to mine, so where is he? I groggily get up and start to search my apartment. He's not there. I get dressed and head out to see where he is. I eventually find him in the cafeteria, eating. "Will!" I say and run over to him, "Is this where you were this morning?" "Yes. I was hungry, and you were sleeping. You looked so adorable and peaceful, so I didn't want to wake you up. I figured I could eat and be back there before you woke up, given what time it was. But, the line took longer than I thought it would." I look over and it is going pretty slowly. But that doesn't explain how he went and got breakfast without me. Maybe his personality just changed. My mind reasons, A year away from his friends in a new setting may have changed him. "Well, I'm going to go and freshen up. You should too." "Okay," is all I get in response from him. This is seriously weird. He's not acting at all like his usual self. Maybe it will be revealed when he finishes his explanation this morning.
A/N: Oh my! So long since an update! Chapters coming up. Chapter 11: Tris' POV I wake up to Tobias, Christina, and Will talking. "What time is it?" I groggily ask. "Tris!" Tobias plants a kiss on my cheek before adding, "it's 10:00am. But, guess what?!?" "What?" "The doctors have discharged you! We can go home after you change." "Great! Where are my clothes?" "Right here." Christina hands me a full change of clothes, including a tight-fitting black tank top with purple lace over it and ripped black and purple tie-dye denim shorts. I head to the restroom and change. I'm limping when I come back into the room. Tobias is waiting for me with a wheelchair. "I am not going in that." I say, pointing to the wheelchair. "You kind of have to. Doctor's orders, unless you want to stay here for another three days?" "Wheelchair it is!" "Thought so. We're heading back to the city tomorrow, but until then, Will is finishing explaining how he got here." We finally arrive at our apartment, where Christina and Will are waiting for us. Tobias helps me onto the bed, and Will continues his explanation. "I was trying to escape, when the wires from my device came undone. I thought they were useless, but I almost died. After that, I was sent to a woman who explained everything to me. She caught me up on everything you guys did, but the bureau was just getting ready to set off the memory serum when I was finally up to speed. They thought that I should wait everything out before showing myself to you, and here I am." ~Will's POV~ I look over at Tris and Four. Tris has a faraway look, and Four is staring back at me. Christina, my Christina, has the same look as Tris. I wonder if they suspect anything. That was the real story, for the most part. This silence is starting to become awkward, so I suggest that I take Christina back to her apartment it pack. Luckily, they all agree. While we're packing, Christina keeps looking at me weirdly. "Do I have something on my face?" "No, it's just— never mind." She shakes her head and gets back to work. ~Tobias' POV~ By the time Tris and I are done packing, the sky is dark. The time for dinner has long gone, but we eat some dauntless cake from the fridge. Tris and I then slide into bed, anxious and excited about what will happen tomorrow. Chapter 12: Christina's POV While Will and I pack, I think about what he said. There was nothing in his explanation that hinted at anything. In fact, it was really vague, maybe too vague. I wonder if Tris or Four noticed. I look over at Will. His expression is nothing out of the usual, but he has stubble on his face. That's unusual. He never lets his hair get that long. Will sees me looking at him and asks if there's something on his face. Shiznips. "No, it's just— never mind." I finish packing and get into bed, anxious for tomorrow. Chapter 13: Uriah's POV I feel the heat of the morning sun on my eyelids. Christina, Tris, Four, and Will are leaving for the city today. And are leaving me behind!! I have to wake up! Christina and Tris are coming today to say goodbye, and I have to open my eyes for them! I hear a door open and I put all my energy into opening my eyes for them. My eyelids open and I see a white ceiling. A nurse comes over to check the machines attached to me and shrieks when she sees my eyes open. The nurse then calls for a doctor, protesting that she is not crazy, and that my eyes indeed are open. The doctor comes in a minute later, and gasps when he sees me awake. "Can you talk or move?" He asks. I have no idea if I can, so I try to open my hands. I manage to raise up my index fingers. The doctor gasps. "Get him on the recovery meds. Stat!" The nurse hooks me up to yet another machine. While she is doing that, somewhere I find it in me to talk. "When can I go home? My friends are going back to the city today. Do you think I can go with them?" "Oh my gosh!" The doctor murmurs, "Well, given how fast you're regaining your strength, you can go home either this afternoon or tomorrow!" "Great!" I reply with a yawn. When did I start getting tired? With that thought, I fall into a deep, disturbed sleep.
I'm happy to see this story updated again! Will's behavior really is starting to become stranger and stranger - but it is great to see Uriah waking up!
Chapter 14: Uriah's POV I wake up to someone hugging me. I instantly know it's Christina, by the careful way she makes sure not to touch any of my bruises. "Hey," I groggily try to sit up, but fails horribly. I groan. "Well, you look like crap. I'm guessing you feel the same way." "You're so nice," I comment, not really in the mood for her frankness at the moment. "Just trying to cheer you up. Come on, lighten up, you pansycake," she teases, "you, of all people should appreciate living life on the fun side. It only lasts for so long. Besides, our lives need a little fun after all the wars." Christina gives me a warm smile, and coaxes one out of me, too. "Thanks. Please don't tell me you're leaving without me. I did this just for you." "I can't promise anything, but if we can get you out by 4:00, you can probably come." "Okay," I yawn, "I guess I'm more tired than I thought. And to think, I got all that sleep." I smile ruefully. "Goodnight, sleepyhead," Christina calls as she walks out of my room, a sly smile on her face." "What are you planning?!?" I shout after her. "Nothing!" And then I'm alone.
