I known Cradle for a while, but it wasn't until today that I unfortunatly saw one of their vidoes, From The Cradle to Enslave. Now the first thing to go through my mind was "What...the...****.

I then look up the lyrics to some of Cradle and Dimmu, and I have got to say I have never read anything funnier, and there is n way that you can take any of it seriously, which made me wonder: Do the bands take themselves seriously?

Cradle of filth have some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever read."Dani Filth" possesses a spectacular command of the English language, barely now seen in song writers. You can find references from Keats to Byron in his songs, via arthurian legend and Elizabeth Bathory... all expressed in his own flowery vocabulary.

"A gothic romance",for instance, reminds me of LeFanu's Carmilla (the female dracula) and most other songs from "Dusk and Her Embrace" and "Cruelty.." are mind boggling if you consider he's going on and on about vampires.

Their later work has sadly deteriorated and I must admit I have lost my appreciation for them.

And to answer your question: it's just a gimmick they put up :)

There is a few things that I like about both of the bands: They are great at playing music, the drum and guitar are great, but I cant take the lyrics.

Another thing that impressed me about Danny is the way that he can use his voice. He can use the whole spectre of sound, from low demonic-like voice toa screaching high C.

There is a smilar band called Deicide and they take themselves WAY too seriously. Their lyrics are just stupid and disgustingly cruel...
Oh..and their lead singer has an inverted cross branded into his forehead.
I quite like the metal genre but some bands out there really should get a reality-check.

    From Yahoo's artist profiles :
Controversy has plagued Florida-based quartet Deicide. Their first tour, in 1992, suffered from severe criticism for the band's statements in favor of animal sacrifices.

If they're being tongue-in-cheek, they should really put "Acne-Ridden Teen Advisory: Implicit Humor" stickers on their records.

i like deicide :D "once upon the cross" is a great album. i used to listen to this stuff while i attended a catholic high school. and i agree. Glen Benton is a bit crazy, having branded an inverted cross into his forehead.

Yes I would say he is good. But have you ever heard of Ram-Zet. Zet can go from the low demonic voice right up to the clean voice and he dose it very well I might add.

When he dose go into the clean voice well let's just say it sounds like a different person at that point. But it is still him.

If you want to know more go here Ram-Zet

you think From the Cradle to Enslave is a messed up video...

You should watch the uneditted Scorched Earth Erotica video.

    Oy!

Cradle's lyrics are awe-inspiring. Dimmu's are chessy but the musics good.

There is nothing wrong with either of them. And so what if the FTCTE vid was nasty. The musics still good.

Go to the Ampitheatre Cradle of Filth or Metaltropolis threads. Then say that.

    Cradle of Filth

Quite big really, for a British sort of Black Metal band.

OK, Cobra has gotten here to say what I would have said.

I don't know Dimmu Borgir and I frankly don't care for this style of music. (Except for Hard Venom . . . an up and coming band from England -- shameless plug for Cobra's band)

However, I have read the lyrics that Dani Filth has written and they are in short genious.

So, before you judge them because of the way they look or the sound of their music, do some research, read their lyrics and find out what is behind the band.

waits for Spooky to come see this thread

Well Cradle of Filth is my favorite band currently and I like Dimmu Borgir as well.

I've loved all the videos I've seen so far but, Scortched Earth Erotica is probably my favorite one.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. These posts echoe my exact thoughts....

Cradle of filth have some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever read."Dani Filth" possesses a spectacular command of the English language, barely now seen in song writers. You can find references from Keats to Byron in his songs, via arthurian legend and Elizabeth Bathory... all expressed in his own flowery vocabulary.

    and this one ....

Another thing that impressed me about Danny is the way that he can use his voice. He can use the whole spectre of sound, from low demonic-like voice toa screaching high C.

I hated Danis' vocals when I first heard them but, now I think that's really talented to go from one to the other with a snap of the finger. I also seen him smoking a cigarette on one dvd. How the hell can he smoke and still accomplish those vocals with such expertise ?

I quite like Deicide a little but, they are just way to obviously / blatanly satanic for my tastes. I do own one cd of there's though. As far as Glen Benton. The guys' an ******** in person but, the latest Vital Remains album with him on vocals is outstanding.

you metal heads should come socialize in the Metaltropolis thread in the Ampitheatre forums.

    lol. yeah, he might fit!

Just search for the Dusk lyrics. They're better than any other lyrics from the genre.
