JCC Census Do Cheech & Chong deserve to be inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

That appearance on the Howard Stern wrap-up show* was from a couple of weeks ago, but they were guests on Real Time with Bill Maher last night, so it got me thinking about it again. My answer? No. Why? Because they're not primarily musicians. Legendary comedic actors/stand-ups, with some music sprinkled in, yes (certainly rock & roll elements to their career in their heyday), but still not primarily musicians.

Isn't the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rather infamously a laughingstock? So from that perspective, sure, double down.

 

From that point, sure, but from another context, I’ve always been a ‘small hall guy’, so in that vein, I voted no.

 

They are good at rolling so yes.

 

I'd put the Blues Brothers in before Cheech and Chong and I'd put the Monkees in before the Blues Brothers.

 

How dare you

 

If the powers-to-be here in La La Land decided to build a lawyer HOF/museum (my best friend’s dad is a real estate attorney, and my father worked in the L.A. County law enforcement apparatus-as a Sheriff Deputy, then the Coroner’s department), I guarantee you it would be laughing stock too.

 

They wouldn't even consider the Monkees until Micky has passed on, too. And, even then, the Rock 'n Roll Establishment (yes, there is, indeed, a Rock 'n Roll Establishment) will burn the place down and sow the ground with salt before allowing it.
In truth, the Monkees should've been voted in long ago. As for Cheech & Chong, the Rutles are more deserving of inclusion. (Actually, I wouldn't mind the Rutles being voted in.)
