If this has been brought up,lock away friends.

I'm watching ESB right now,it wouldn't be a christmas eve without the OT. Anywaise, the duel with Vader and Luke just ended and the line really struck me.

Vader says its useless to resist,he should surrender now and join Darth Vader. He says to not allow himself to be destroyed like Kenobi..

But Obi Wan didn't continue to fight,he never full on surrendered but he moved his lightsaber to his head. Darth Vader struck without hesitation.

I know theres a fine line between his Son,a mini Vader in the making, and Obi Wan,the one whos responsible for him being in the suit, and for making padme ''leave'' him.

Also, shouldnt he want Luke to continue fighting?Vader knows he can still beat him,and he can bring out more of the darkness within him.He can further test his skills and draw him into the darkside.

"Don't let yourself be destroyed as Obi-Wan did."

That doesn't imply that he's saying not to be destroyed just as Obi-Wan did. He's basically saying, "Obi-Wan let himself be destroyed. Don't let yourself be destroyed either." If Luke kept fighting, he would have been destroyed.

The line was also intended to anger Luke, which it did.

"Fear of Loss is a path to the Dark Side."

The loss of Obi-wan had a clear impact on Luke. If Obi-Wan hadn't become a force ghost (Something Vader didn't know about) and Luke didn't meet Yoda (Also unknown to Vader), he might have brutally attacked Vader out of anger because he wanted Revenge for killing Obi-Wan. Of course, Vader could have handled an Onslaught by Luke at the time and may have been able to turn him. It was a great chance to get under Luke's skin. Of course, Luke's hidden continued training was the wild card and Luke was able to contain himself.

I thought he was referring to the fact that Vader thought that Obi-Wan was destroyed and didn;t come back as a Force-ghost. Niether Anakin nor Vader knew that Jedi could come back remember, he thought the power to save people from dying was only with the Sith.

Vader was forced to kill Obi-Wan as he considered Obi-Wan to be a threat, if Luke began to become a threat vader would have to kill him to. "there is no escape, don't make me destroy you."

It's something along the lines of a distraction technique that sith character seem to use. Think of Dooku's goading in AotC. It's a way of distraction in how he bashes Obi-Wan. Then in next one his "you have anger, you have hate." Line, or the "good. Double the pride, double the fall."

The Emperor even does it to Yoda.

I think Vader was trying to convince Luke (in the long run) that it was Obi-wan's fault he died.
