Do people in the Empire know Vader was Anakin Skywalker?

In the spirit of the "Do people know that Palpatine is a Sith Lord" thread; do you think that the common Imperial Senator or army commander knows that Lord Vader was once a Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker?

I kind of doubt it. I've always speculated that Palpatine told people that Vader was a Jedi who "discovered the Jedi had betrayed the Republic" and fought with Skywalker against the traitors; and that Anakin was killed and Vader badly injured in the fight.

 

I doubt many in the galaxy knew the name Anakin Skywalker at all, let alone what became of him. Anakin may have been more or less well-known throughout the Jedi and some politicians and some other people that had business in WAR!, but other than that nobody knows him or think he vanished and is long dead.

 

Since Leia, who was a senator and is the leader of the Rebellion, is pretty shocked when her friend with the last name Skywalker tells her that Vader is his father, it's probably not common knowledge. The Emperor, Kenobi, Yoda ,Luke and Vader himself were probably the only ones who knew the truth.

I would say no. If that had been common knowledge, there'd have been no point for Ben keeping it from Luke.

 

While Anakin Skywalker was a hero during the Clone Wars, I think people just assumed he faded into obscurity. I any would know he became Vader.

I think Bail also knows

 

and probably Tarkin as well.

 

Most likely the High Ranking Imperials. I doubt the common folk know, but t is likely that people would talk about vader once being a jedi knight as a sort of Urban myth.
