    New York State

    Evidence:

Kansas City Royals, not Kansas Royals, when in fact it'd be the Missouri Royals.

    I make a loose argument.

Giants - Located in New Jersey
    Mets - Queens
Yankees - I forget which borough
    Rangers - Manhattan
    Islanders - Long Island

Don't know the scoop on the Jets and the Knicks are the only NYC team in the NBA.

john, as a former resident, I will point out that there is a street in Kansas City called "State Line" (I used to know someoen who lived just off it, in fact). My point being that the city of Kansas City straddled the two states, so that Kansas City actually is in Kansas, just not there exclusively.

Yankees = Bronx, yet everyone in New York, Conn. and Northern NJ love them
Mets = Located in Queens, anyone who cheers for them isn't a Yankee fan and hates the Yankees
Knickes = Manhattan, but the Nets will be moving to Brooklyn within 4 years, so that'll change things
Jets & Giants = Jersey, yet most New Yorkers I know cheer for the Giants
    Rangers = New York City
Islanders = Long Island, but no one cheers for them, they're losers to say the least

I know this b/c I went to college in New York and wrote the Sports Opinion column for my college newspaper.

Close, but heres on it goes:

Mets: Represent Queens, and a majority of Long Island
Yankees: Represent the Bronx and major portions of the city as well as upstate NY, Connecticut and New Jersey
Jets: Play in East Rutherford, of course, but pretty much get most of their fans from Long Island (they used to play in Queens)
Giants: Also play in East Rutherford, but represent a lot of New Jersey and the city
Knicks: The entire tri-state area except for the 20,000 diehard Nets fans (as Padawan said, that will change with the scheduled move)
Rangers: Parts of New Jersey and New York
    Islanders: Long Island, obviously

The teams can essentially be split into two groups: the existing powers (Giants, Yankees, Knicks and Rangers) that mainly played around the City and the younger Long Island generation (Nets, Jets, Mets and Islanders). I'm a mix, as I support the Mets, Jets, Rangers and Nets. My brother is also a mix as he supports the Mets, Giants, Islanders and Knicks.

An interesting tidbit is that William Shea also played a large part in bringing the Jets to Flushing and having basketball and hockey teams in Nassau County (Nets, Islanders).

I'll give you guys credit for not being bandwagoners like most New York fans, but booing McNabb on draft day was embarrassing.

My roommate, a diehard Giants fan who has been to several games and some Jets games, admits Jets games are a lot louder and generally more fun. Take from it what you will.

Not me, I was a huge fan of McNabb when he played for the 'Cuse. I was really happy when the Eagles drafted him.

But you're right over all. However, he quickly became a huge fan favorite and along with Allen Iverson owns the city of Phildelphia.

South NJ is more Eagles country than Giants.

I always foud it sad that there were TWO teams that play in NJ but call themselves New York teams. You greedy buggers up north. :p
