I have always wondered. Do they have basic Earthly commodities such as nail polish in the Star Wars galaxy? Things like glasses, traffic lights, paper and pencil, and tweezers?

They have traffic lights, I think. I wouldn't know about the other things. :p

I thought it was odd to see people sleeping in conventional beds in AotC. It's even harder to imagine nail polish and tweezers in SW. ;) As for pencils and paper, I imagine it exists there, but hardly ever used. Data pads are probably much more common.

"Who needs traffic lights? You just go as fast as you can, and dodge anything in your way."

Direct quote from Driving. It's not as hard as you think, by A. Skywalker :D

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the GFFA either have similar or high-tech versions of the things we have today. For example, datapads (pen + paper), datacards (floppy disks/USB keys/CDs) blasters (guns and bullets), bacta (penicillin, antibiotics, drugs, and so on), etc.

    Do they have nail polish?

Yes. Check out the short story "Hutt and Seek" in Tales from the New Republic.

    Nail Polish-

    *points to PEZman4's post*

Read "Hutt and Seek". ;) :)

    Glasses-

    Plasspecs. Described below. :)

Plasspecs- this form of glasses uses molded plastic lenses to help adjust a being's sight.

    Pen and Paper-

Laser Pen and Flimsiplast. Described below. :)

Laser Pen- a writing implement that literally burns written words onto a page.

Flimsiplast- this material resembles sheets of plastic that can be written on. Used for conveying messages, flimsiplast can be impregnated with chemicals that allow the writing to remain hidden until it contacts a being's specific chemical makeup. It can also be set to burn up after the message has been activated, thereby ensuring the message is read and them destroyed.

    Traffic Lights-

Take a look at this pic. ;)

That thing by Dooku is, in fact, a traffic light. ;) :)

    Tweezers-

Medical kits most likely include such devices, although I'd imagine they are bit more sophisticated than the simple types we use. :)

Ken Kenobi- And you have a nice day ;)

    "Plasspecs"

Plasspecs sound so much cooler than glasses.

i think there'd have to be nail polish somewhere. i mean, come on, look at amidala in episode i. her hair was purple at one point, facial make-up all over the place and dark nails sometimes. cosmetics are obviously very important in the star wars world, espicially for the female population.

I know that they have nail polish, because Amidala wears white nail polish on her thumbs because it's a tradition from her native village.
