I got into an argument with a friend about whether or not vampires have fangs on their bottom jaw. He says they do but I have never seen that in any representation of vampires. It would look cool though.

I am not obsessed with vampires.

I would assume 4 because aren't their fangs their canine teeth (I think that's the name for them)?

But they usually only use the top 2. So I guess that's why that's all you'd see.

Why do you not check in the mirror?

But of course you cannot, for you have no reflection!

I really wish I was a vampire, like the ones in Blade. I think mostly for the immortality. I will achieve it somehow dammit!

Having looked at Hellboy: Wake the Devil, Mignola gives Vladimir Giurescu's father both top and bottom sets of fangs. That's the only time I have really noticed a bottom set on a vampire before, though.

Normaly, when a vampire victim's neck is shown in movies, only two puncture marks are displayed or mentioned. So if a vampire has four fangs, he only uses two. It depends on which depiction you are going off , I guess.

I'd have to agree. It's pretty much left up to the interpretation of who is telling the vampyre tale. It goes the same with some of the werewolf stories too, as to when the wolf will change and how, etc.,etc.

I think it makes more sense now I think about it. Having four fangs like every other carnivore on the planet.
And I think when vampires feed it's alot messier than two clean little holes.

One of the most intriguing, innovative attempts at a "realistic" interpretation of vampires is Octavia Butler's Fledgling. I could definitely see you liking it, and it's a short read.

I got fake vampire teeth once. They had them on the bottom too. They also glowed. Wait... is it glowed? ...Glew? ...Glought?

Having 4 fangs would just make things awkward. Same reason why walruses only have two tusks.

I'd say 4 too, but the lower canines aren't as developed as the upper ones. Kinda like dogs, know what I mean?

Also, when I was a kid I used to buy those fake vampire teeth, made of cheap plastic but I remember they had 4 fangs, so that's how I imagine vampire teeth.

Didn't the Reapers in Blade 2 have two sets of jaws? In that case, that's more than two or four fangs.

The bottom fangs would change the whole structure of the jaw unless they weren't as big as the top ones and faced inwards.

I'll check it out. I also read Blood And Chocolate which was pretty good, more about werewolves though.

Oh and my parents won't let me get fake fangs, this is teh suxors. It's only because I wanted to go as a vampire to a costume party, honest.

I had a real life vampy friend. they don't have four fangs..they have excessively large canine teeth, due to their ancestry and they can bite your hand off, but they don't have very large lower canine teeth. the top 2 are very much larger compared to the lower teeth..but don't let it fool you, because they snap their jaw quick.

If they had 4 fangs and they bit someone, surely they'd be more likely to take an entire chunk out of their victims necks like a zombie, rather than 2 puncture wounds.

    Vampires have 4 fangs.

The upper ones are longer than the lower ones and then they only use the upper ones to pierce the skin.

Try biting your hand and you'll see. If you had fangs, you could easily make two puncture marks on your hand without biting with the lower fangs. You can just push in your top teeth and if you pretend they are fangs, you can see that they would make two little holes.

And necks are soft, especially girly necks, so it's easy :)
Vampires like virgin blood. That means Mary, I think.

Vampires use the upper fangs to make the punctures and then they suck the blood out through them.
That's so they don't make the girl too ugly after they've bitten her. If you bite chunks out of a girl, it's very ugly and it doesn't grow back for weeks and then they cry.
    Girls cry a lot.

I am not entirely sure but polite vampires have a little straw which they use to drink the blood. It's less messy :)
