We know that Dooku was Yoda's padawan. We also know the line of training from Yoda to Luke.

Do you have to be superior or special to be Yoda's personal padawan? We know Luke was trained by Yoda for a time because there was no one else, and we know Yoda trains the younglings.

So was Dooku different from the rest of the padawans during his time, and did Yoda have his own padawan prior to Dooku, considering he's 800 plus years old?

That's an interesting idea. I never really thought about it that way. It makes sense. Anakin also had superior pontential, but Yoda and the other council members did not want him to be trained... Yoda probably did have other Padawans... but he's head of the Jedi council. Do Council members have padawans?

I wonder if Dooku was one of Yoda's last padawans and if he retired from actively training them (but still does classroom stuff with the younglings) soon after Dooku became a knight. I'm not sure if Yoda only gets those with high potential- he gave Anakin to Obi-Wan and I assume he didn't train Mace (though I don't know what EU says about this).

Is there any info in EU or anywhere that has talked about who Yoda will train. I mean obviously Dooku and Luke had to be special cases to be trained directly under Yoda.

From TOS' Database entry on Yoda:

When Yoda was 700 years old, he served on a council of Jedi Masters instructing new students aboard the massive Jedi training vessel Chu'unthor. The starship crashed onto the planet of Dathomir. The Jedi Masters attempted to free the vessel from its swampy confines but they were repulsed by the Dathomirian Nightsisters.
Much of Yoda's history is unknown. Just prior to the dark times that accompanied the fall of the Republic, Yoda trained the Gannathan royal King Empatojayos Brand in the ways of the Force. Another student of his was the powerful and stern Qu Rahn.

    Hope that helps any.

I still reckon Yoda's fight scene with Dooku to be the best. Hell, I even posted a message of congratulations to him on www.gotellthem.com

    Yoda is the coolest.

There all Yodas' Padawans. He is the one that EVERY Jedi calls Master. At least at this stage in the game.

That Yoda fightwould have been cooler if it hadn't been for the fact that Yoda was strugglign to be walkign on a can the entire movie, and then was doing all those leaps and bounces.

To me that's one of the things that made it cool. Give the impression that he wasn't as feeble as he liked to have people believe.

Funniest scene was right after the fight when he pulled his cane to him with the Force just before everyone came in.

Either that, or the Force simply made him powerful when he needed it.

I think you hit it on the head - the Force was what made him strong.

It makes the point that while he has access to power that can make him strong (physically) again, and could use it at any time, as often as he likes, he doesn't. It illustrates the Jedi philosophy that they are tools of the Force, and that the Force is ultimately not a tool of theirs.

He had to try and stop Dooku, and the Force was there to help him do that. Once the confrontation was over, it was no longer necessary to draw upon the power, so he stopped.

    That's my interpretation anyway.
