Anakin hated sand. I wonder if Luke did, too. They probably could have talked about it in that Endor landing platform?

That would have been comedy gold if they did have a sand conversation. I honestly don't know if Luke hated sand or not.

    Luke: So, you're from Tatooine?

    Vader: Yeah.

Luke: That sand there. I hate it.

Vader: Me too. It gets everywhere.

Luke: I think I still have some on me.

    Vader: Wow. Sucks, man.

    Luke: Yeah.

Yes. Luke did hate sand. He just never felt compelled to whine about it.

    Great topic!

Well Luke seems to be annoyed by the whole life-on-the-farm thing but i don't get the impression that he shared Anakin's hate for sand. He seems to be able to find recreation on Tatooine (ie T-16 racing, Tusken Raider spotting, Anchorhead, buying power converters at Toshi station) and even seems to find ways to combat the fact that sand "gets everywhere" (i.e. cleaning the droids in the garage). If only Anakin had the rag scrubber thing that Luke uses on R2.

Hehe. Funny, yeah, but not something I'd like to see in the movie...

"So, you grew up on Tatooine, huh?"
    "Yeah."
    *pause*
"Do you hate sand as much as I do after that horror of a planet?"
    "You have noooo idea."
"Force, I was glad to get out of there... I was only there nine years..."
"Nine years?! I was trapped there until l was twenty!"
"Woah, kid. You had it worse than I did."
"Uncle Owen wouldn't even let me off that planet to got to the military academy!"
"Tell you what... as soon as we get another Death Star operational, we're heading there... sandy, backwards planet..."
"But wouldn't blowing Tatooine up create more sand and dust?"
"Dark Force, you're right... We'll have to think of something else..."

Luke loved sand. He would eat bowls of the stuff drowned in blue milk.

    Luke wasn't a ***** like Anakin.

GK edit: Gotta star out the whole word.

    "Father, please! Help me!"
    "What is it, my son?"
"You know how the sand gets everywhere... ugh, stupid swim trunks!"

If only they didn't have to rush the ADR, Lucas' original vision could have come to life :(

Don't worry, in the upcoming 2007 version Lucas will finally see his vision come to light with the reinstatement of the deleted sandstorm scene in ROTJ. It was originally cut for pacing reasons because its mostly three minutes of everyone whining about the sand but it ties the two trilogies. "I'm approaching the saga, more or less like a symphony," Lucas says of the upcoming restored sequence. "Certain themes are repeated so that when you watch one trilogy, there is an echo of that theme in the next trilogy. In 1983 I really didn't like the sandstorm scene but now after doing the prequels I thought it would be good to put that scene back in there. Anakin hates sand, and now you see how Luke hates sand as well. It puts him in greater danger of falling to the darkside. You see more clearly how the son becomes like his father."

I can't wait for the new "Saga" boxset. Who knows, perhaps we will have a new "picking up some power converters" scene in TPM!

    Luke: "I hate sand....and I hate you!"

Darth Vader: "I used to hate sand....but then I got awsome...so uh, yeah..."

    Luke: " SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND! "

    Darth Vader: ".....right...."

Luke: "I know you still love me and you are good and blah blah blah"

Darth Vader: " ...but I got this cool armor you see...so I dont know"

Luke: "I kind of want to bang my sister..."

Darth Vader: " .......ok, time to go see Palps."

Oooo, I wanted to see the Y-wing in the sandstorm scene. Except.....I don't think Lucas's reason for doing it is all that great. Hating sand doesn't have all that much to do with turning to the dark side >_>

Vader: And I hate sand, but I love you, son.
Luke: *wipes a tear... or is it just irritation from sand in his eye?*

In the extra-special edition, this touching scene will replace the "help me take this mask off" sequence.

The line used to be "May The Sand Be With You", but George changed it when he realized there would be more planets than just Tatooine*.

LUKE: "I want to come with you to Alderaan. There's nothing for me here now, except sand. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father. Did he like sand?"

I don't think Luke hates sand. Unlike Anakin, while his life was difficult, he wasn't a slave. I think Anakin's hatred of sand is tied into his experiences as a slave, like he psychologically connects the two. Luke certainly wanted to get off Tatooine, but I see that as more of a getting away from home kind of thing, more than an I hate sand thing.

^Maybe that's where Blue Milk comes from? There's so much sand they made a drink out of it.

Great thread - these are pretty funny.

That being said: I don't think Luke hated sand. I think he was bored on Tatooine, because, seriously, who wouldn't be? But he seemed pretty comfortable with the climate. Anakin was just too high matinence.

    Sand was all around Luke.

    There was the Sandcrawler.

    The Sandpeople.

    Sandwiches.

(Okay, I added that last one for effect...)

I'd hate sand if I were Luke!
