I started this poll because I'm wondering if Jedi (mostly real seasoned Jedi Masters) could possibly use the Force to actually fly on the sky (like Superman, again). Wouldn't this be interesting?

I didn't say 'yes' or 'no.' I think it's possible for a short while, but it would be incredibly draining. So, yes they could levitate and move around int he air, but I doubt they could do it for sustained periods of time like Superman.

They can't fly persay, they can levitate. They can like, hover, and move forward looking like their standing up, but can't really fly.

It really depends on your definiton of flying. I think that if one can manipulate the air currents so that one 'moves through the air', then one is essentially flying. Therefore my vote goes for yes. It's really just a semantical argument . . .

no they can't. maybe it's possible, but not probable. it takes a great deal of concentration to levitate stuff. remember yoda with the x-wing and the thing that was supposed to be a crane in AotC? i don't think any jedi can concentare long enough to "fly" from one place to another.

But it wouldn't necessarily have to involve levitation. All one would have to do is whip up a cyclone, or something . . . wouldn't controling the elements be easier than levitation? Besides which, the human body is significantly lighter than an X-Wing!

They can use the Force to lift themselves, not unlike using it to jump. Yes it would take concentration and effort, and for these reasons using it to "fly" like Superman probably wouldnt happen. Can the use the Force to propel themselves through the air, almost seeming as if they are flying? Yes.

In fact, I believe in the most recent incantation of the PRG its an ability you can take.

I think that it would take a great deal of energy to fly, however it would be possible. Someone with the high force capabilities of Yoda or Anakin should be able to manage it for a sustained period of time IMHO.

Well, I said "no"...but if we're talking 'old' Superman and leaping buildings in a single bound...then 'yes', but if we're talking 'newer' Superman, and FLYING like a plane...then no. :D

It is possible for them to levitate and stay suspened, but i think actually flying would be harder to do. Thats because of the strain it would take on you to do such an act.

Not like superman but to a certain degree.

In Dark Tide: Onslaught when Ganner and Corran are on the Dune planet and they try to get to the rocks, Corran refering to the Ship asks if they should fly or walk. Ganner misunderstands and thinks that Corran means for them to levitate the entire way.

This suggests that Jedi can fly to a certain extent.

In Star Wars RPG Jedi can fly.

Even if a Jedi couldn't use the Force to fly, a Sith could use a combination of Sith Alchemicals and Sith Alchemy and Mutate some wings onto their back. Then they could fly...

Besides, if a Jedi can be powerful enough to destroy a planet, what makes you think he can't use the Force to fly?

Didn't anyone read Rebel Stand?Lord Nyax flew.
Anyway I think they can but they usually don't because it is much easier to walk and jump.

I'm going have to say no. Not in the sense you're thinking. The EU has always hinted that it wasn't possible, but I hold onto a dream that it is remotely possible, by a select few, and for short periods of time.

Think of Jedi as conductors of electricity, and the Force being a HUGE everlasting current. (this is going to take some chemistry) Now some jedi are made out of salt-water, others Aluminum, and still others copper; such as: Luke, Kyp, Anakin, Anakin Solo, etc..
True most conductors can conduct for a very long time. But some deterioate; and the rest rise into extreame tempatures. Not to say that Jedi rise in temp. but that can be compared to exhaustion. Some conductors become bent/warped, during or esp. after cool down. Now I'm going to go out on a very far limb here. We (or rather I) could say that during, or after, their manipulation of the Force, they might become "bent or warped." (i.e. dark side) It would take so much power to do that.
On a positive note, it is a possiblity that a Jedi, or any Force user for that matter, could manipulate the air currents, or some object, or as my friend said, they could use the gravity of an object, and pull themselves towards it, to "fly."

Lord Nyax was hardly a Jedi.

If it were easy, Yoda wouldn't have floated on that "thing" in AOTC. So if it is possible, it must be tough, and draining, even for a light-weight Jedi Master.

No, they can't "fly" a la Superman but they can do really big Force enhanced leaps and they can levitate themselves, generally downwards in order to avoid getting Jedi pancakes.

I remember in Courtship of Princess Leia, it was breifly talked about how Luke floated to the ground and the Prince there thought that's how he got the name "Skywalker"

I think they do it like in Crouching tiger and stuff, they just levitate themelves as they jump.

I thought that the name Skywalker was due to the family's inherent piloting talents.

even if u could would it be faster then a ship?
    when would you use it?
could u get frequent flyer miles? :p

they can levitate, but they cant fly per se. not like superman can. i have heard of older and much more powerful jedi that can creat low level personal shields.
