When I was younger I used to just fast forward through the crawl and get straight to the movie but now I see how nostalgic or emotional those few minutes are, so I take the time to watch it now. I feared that feeling would be lost for TFA because there would be no Fox fanfare, but the first sentence sucked me in "Luke Skywalker has Vanished" so do you skip it or watch it?

Any Star Wars film with no Fox fanfare is not worth watching. Luckily we have 6 films that feature this royal sounding tune prior to the crawl exploding on the screen.

On repeat viewings it's not really necessary in terms of exposition, but I still watch it. The crawl, along with the music, is so distinctive to SW, and it's a great way to get the energy going.

Sometimes. I have to be in the mood for the lengthy exposition, but I'll always love the theme.

    Every time.

It's truly a quintessential part of the saga. Since as I'm sure you're aware it was inspired by the same Saturday morning serials that gave George Lucas his creative spirit.

I watch it a few times-- First I read it through, then I rewatch and pause so I can actually understand what it says lol, and then I play it for a 3rd time just to enjoy the music. But I've only started watching these films a couple of months ago, so relatively new for me still.

Yes. It's part of the experience and sets the mood. Not just the text itself, but the music. The main theme accompanying the crawl is exciting and upbeat, but those last few notes when the camera pans down are mysterious and have a bit of menace to them.

TFA was so sudden there was no music and I didn't even see the Lucasfilm logo so I wasn't really prepared. but I still got chills when the fanfare hit and people cheered and it said EPISODE VII. The cool thing about TFA was we had no idea what the crawl would say so I took in every word, before ROTS came out they released it online and everyone was trying to figure out what "Heroes on both sides" meant and how the first word "War!" reminded people of a newspaper headline, thanks to TCW whenever I see the ROTS crawl I immediately hear Tom Kane reading it lol

I used to skip them, but now I watch them every time.

I never watch crawls in the video games though. They rarely fit well.

darskpine10 the video games can never capture it like the movies can, there's always something wrong like the background or the font, the speed of the text or even the writing itself I've yet to see a perfect one in video games

    Yes.

Great thing I noticed about the TFA one (IIRC) was that they co-ordinated the music and the length of the paragraphs, which is something that they had not done since the original title crawl for Star Wars in 1977

Always. It sets the mood for the film and gives us all necessary exposition we missed between films.
I don't tend to do watch the end credits on other films, but I always do for Star Wars. The various times I saw TFA with others I pissed them off by making them stay though the credits, and I would always tell them "It's a part of Star Wars. I cant leave yet."

I wouldn't feel right if I didn't watch the crawl when watching any Star Wars movie. No matter how many times I've seen each film (a lot) it always brings out that same emotional reaction and nostalgic feeling in me every single time. I still even love seeing "A long time ago in galaxy far, far away..." [face_love] [face_love]
