    In the Masters of Teras Kasi game, his alternate armor was blue, but I think that was more of a joke of his black armor looking blue in the old unrestored cuts of the original movies.

    I heard that in one book, he's on a planet where he can breathe without his mask and doesn't wear it.

    Also, he doesn't really need the top part of his mask that hangs down in the back, does he (the part Luke takes off first in RotJ)? So couldn't he wear the rest of the mask and a hooded robe to look more like a conventional Sith?

    He does need the top part; his meditation chamber has an oxygen-rich atmosphere, IIRC, so his lungs don't need to take in as much air. Normally, he cannot function without his entire mask. And I don't remember him wearing "alternate" armor, aside from RotJ Infinities(it's a white version) and horrible artistic representations.

    As far as alternature goes, he used to have a more primitive armor designed for him before getting into the modern Vader suit, according to the Technical Journal, but that's apocryphal now.

    I agree, Infinities is the only one I can remember.

    And here's a picture of it:

    the Masters of Teras Kasi alternate armor was black with more bluish tinges, rather than actually blue. It was more a way to tell apart the players when both played Darth Vader in a fight. likewise Chewbacca comes in two slightly different colors.

    don't think of it as a different costume but rather the same costume seen in a different light setting (ie how vader looked in the orange glow of cloud city's lights vs the soft glow of the emperor's throne room on the DSII)

    Vader isn't in the EU. He only gets slammed in the EU by jealous people and leeches (Mara fits both those bills!).

    The whole thing's so stupid anyway. Why didn't he just get a lung transplant?

    Tiershon_Fett do you have to complain in every thread you see about how you don't think vader is treated good in EU, and Also insult other characters?

    For the same reason Luke gets a bionic hand and not a transplant or clone graft. Apparently, biological transplants/cloned implants and whatnot are frowned upon in general, or for force-users in particular. Perhaps the force considers getting transplants some sort of abomination, but getting a prosthetic is ok.

    I don't think that the Force would care. Anyway, it's Star Wars. Does it have to make sense?

    At the risk of inciting Rhonda, how does he eat and sleep and sh--? :p

    I'd seriously like to know, and wouldn't dare write a novel starring him without knowing that. You can't personalise someone in such a distant way.

    Perhaps his biosuit needs to be recharged every so often, like Astro Boy?

    Sleeping is easy - he has his chamber. And being that he has a working brain, he must sleep...unless he has some sort of cybernetically enhanced brain that we don't see that simulates REM without resting. It's quite probably he uses a good bit of meditation as well.

    Eating...I actually don't think Vader can/needs to eat. I'm betting most of his natural organs are lost and gone and his body is sustained by other means. He really is just a machine to me.

    You're forgetting that on Cloud City, when the doors close on the captured Rebels in the dining room with the fully set table, Vader is sitting down. ;)

    so.. that means he likes to sit when no one's around... it doesn't mean that he was planning on eating.. from the look of things, i doubt anyone got to eat in the dining room.

    I'd imagine that Vader eats the same kind of paste that Robocop eats, it's too nasty a subject to think that behind Vader's control box is some kind of exhaust hole with connectors for a hose.

    He obviously sleeps during those meetings with the Moffs. He's got a helmet on, they can't tell whether or not he's asleep.

    Vader wears the top part of his mask at all times because without it, he bears an unfortunate resemblance to Donald Duck.

    Technically, Gladiuus, Vader (ESB) was sitting down at that moment. We don't know what posture he sleeps in, if at all.

    Lets bear in mind that if he eats . . . it has to come out. There's no other way to put it.

    He wears different armour in every film!!!

    The ROTS armour looks completely different from the ANH armour, and this again differes from TESB and ROTJ (which are almost the same).

    Here some pictures:
    ROTS Vader:
    [image=http://web.ukonline.co.uk/bingo275/marapril05/VaderGrip.jpg]
    [image=http://web.ukonline.co.uk/bingo275/marapril05/Vaderrots2.jpg]

    ANH Vader:
    [image=http://web.ukonline.co.uk/bingo275/realANHdv1.jpg]

    TESB Vader:
    [image=http://web.ukonline.co.uk/bingo275/Real_VadESB1.jpg]

    ROTJ Vader:
    [image=http://www.aoqz76.dsl.pipex.com/Web%20Page%20Components/Wallpaper/Movies/Darth%20Vader%20Face.jpg]

    The ROTS helmet and mask are symetrical, whereas the other are not.
    The dome of the ANH version makes Vader look more sinister that the other ones, plus, the right tusk is black and the lower lip is much smaller than the upper one.
    TESB Vader has a different dome and the mask is much more detailed and looks newer. The armour has a different color scheme and the chestbox and belt are different.
    ROTJ Vader is almost the same as TESB; the lower lip is slightly bigger and the paining of the armour has changed again. In addition to that the dome seems to be wider.

    maybe his head is slowly turning into mush and so he needs a new mask periodically...

    It stands to reason that due to technological advances or upgrades, or wear and tear the Vader would need periodic suit upgrades. That would explain why the suits are different in each film.
