I mean, in the movies it was always implied that Luke was the "only hope", he was the one trained as a Jedi, so then, is Leia like Padme (weak in the Force)? However, doesn't she later give birth to powerful twin Jedi as well? So, what do you think?

From the movies I'd say the answer is yes she is weaker than Anakin and Luke. However in the EU, IIRC, she shows enourmous potential but, simply doesn't have the inclanation or the time to pursue mastery of the force.

What I don't understand is why is she weaker? Because she is a woman? Doesn't she also have Anakin's DNA, therefore Midi's? What in the movies makes you think she is weaker? And when you say weaker, do you mean compared to Anakin or Luke or to Yoda, who also has a high Midi count, but not as high as Anakin and Luke?

Did you hear this from Supershadow?

The reason they chose Luke was probably because Leia would attract too much attention if she practiced the Force. As the "daughter" of Bail Organa, I'm sure she would be in the public eye quite a bit. Luke, on the other hand, was just a loser farmboy from a dustball planet that nobody cared about.

^ And do you remember where you heard that, Favs? Hmmmm.

Personally, I'd go with the theory that Leia had as much potential as Luke, but it wasn't realized completely, especially in the films as she had no training and no idea that she could use the Force. However, the fact that she could 'hear' Luke's Force-call from under Bespin with no training suggests to me even in the movies that she had a very strong potential.

I believe that she does have as much abilty as Luke, however untrained as she may be.

For me, it all comes down to the fact that most people suck with blasters, other than Luke and Leia.

In ANH, she makes a damn fine shot (with a random, clumsy blaster) just before she gets stunned. Also, she's able to peg an AT-ST pilot with one shot in ROTJ, as well as making a good shot on the ground after she's clipped in the arm. That I can think of her better-than-average blaster shots are the only things that imply she's influenced by the Force. But she is.

Oh yeah, in ESB she does hear Luke calling to her. Even before Luke realized it, there was a reason why he called out to her when Obi-Wan didn't answer.

And these are without any Jedi training at all. She's got it.

The force chose to use Luke as the 'one'... whoa.

Leia was backup in case Luke didn't work out. That's an interesting question in it'self, Did the force not plan on having Anakin impregnate Padme and in doing so create two babies with high midichlorian counts. I wonder if in Episode 3, we'll se Padme use the force since she now has some midichlorians inside her. That would be cool.

I've always felt that Leia had just as much potential as Luke. They're both Anakin's children, so why would one have more midi's than the other? Gender? I don't think so. Many have cited Leia's temper as a precusor as not being able to be a qualified padawan for a Jedi. I don't buy that. Luke was by no means perfect and had flaws, maybe not the same as Leia's, but enough that he, to me, wouldn't be a better Jedi than her. The only reason I feel perhaps she wouldn't be a Jedi is because she's involved with politics and helping the Rebellion through whatever means neccessary (info, supplies, recruits), stuff like that. But that doesn't mean she doesn't have the capabilities in her. Like someone said, she did hear Luke call to her in ESB. I really don't think her or Luke had as high a midi count as their father, since he was conceived strictly from midis, but she still had midis within her, I believe.

Apart from the whole Midi thing, would you consider hr a Skywalker even though she doen't bear the last name, or would she be considered more of a Solo?

"I wonder if in Episode 3, we'll se Padme use the force since she now has some midichlorians inside her."

She already has Midichlorians. "They reside in all living cells." "Life coul not exist without the midichlorians."
Midichlorians don't equal Force Sensitivity/ Jedi powers.
If midi-injections would infuse the Force into people, there would be millions of Jedi, instead of a thousand (or something).

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that the movies don't really imply either way. Well, except maybe for Luke's "the Force runs strong in my family... you have that power, too, Leia". But I don't see any reason to think she would be less powerful than Luke.
If anything, the potential might be different in nature, but not necissarily less powerful.

LSS: She's weaker because she's scarcely begun Jedi training. All there is to it.

I'd say she has Luke's potential but, she never pursued it.

However I'd consider her equally a Skywalker and a Solo.

Your question is one of the most controversial and important classic Star Wars questions.

I have spent a great deal of time thinking about this topic and my opinion on the matter has changed over the years to what it is now.

To answer your question, no, to the midi chlorian count thing.

    HOWEVER,

    STRICTLY CANON SPEAKING (MOVIES ONLY):

Yoda continuously stated that there was another. Not just another Skywalker, but there was another hope. Obi Wan had said TWICE in the classic trilogy (once in ESB and once in ROTJ) that LUKE was the only hope.

    Yoda said there was another.

It must be stated firmly that Luke AND Leia are twins. Born from the same parents at the same time.

Luke obviously had "too much of his father in him" and Leia seemed to be much like her mother, a politician, leader, etc. and SEEMED to possess no skills.

    Canonically speaking,

Luke refuted her comments that she had no powers. Saying "my sister has it"

and "You're wrong, Leia. You have that power, too."

At that point it is clear that she can indeed have the same abilities as Luke, yet with no training, which Luke told her

"in time, you will learn to use it as I have."

On the ESB commentary from the new DVD Classic Trilogy that came out, Irvin Kirshner said something to this effect (I can't site the direct quote, but this is approximately it) after we see Obi Wan and Yoda on Dagobah saying the "that boy is our last hope" "no there is another" scene:

Luke and Leia are twins. They have the same potential. We must understand that LUKE is actually EXPENDABLE at this point because Leia can be trained to face Vader.

Speaking from simply a CANON STAR WARS point of view (and you can see all this in the movies), we can conclude that although Luke and Leia have THE SAME POTENTIAL, only it was Luke who took the initiative in his training first.

Luke and Leia had the same potential and the same powers. Leia was NOT weaker than her brother, she had the same powers and YODA's PERSONAL FAITH THAT SHE COULD ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION IF LUKE FAILED.

    Thank you.

    NOW,

MY QUESTION, (and I will post this question, by the way), IS THIS:

Did Han use the Force when he shot the Sarlacc tentacle off Lando's leg. He was only able to see a "big light blur" and would not be able to see enough detail to make a clear shot at something like the sarlacc tentacle.

THINK OF THAT ONE and let me know what you think.

Well, the films give us the answer, and as has been pointed out, she's the best crack shot in the trilogy with a blaster.

I would consider her a Skywalker most definitely. I don't see why "her destiny" COULDN'T HAVE lied with Vader as well. I know in the movies it didn't, but it could have, I believe. If Luke had been killed after all by the Emperor, believe me, Vader would have pursued her as hard as he did Luke. Which reminds me, does he know it's Leia? I mean, Vader said; "So, you have a twin SISTER!", he didn't say; "So, Leia's your SISTER!". Know what I mean? He never actually NAMED Leia and neither did Luke. Yes, people are going to say that he "read" it through Luke's feelings and didn't have to say it out loud, but I don't think he knew it was Leia, IMO.

I think Leia was just as strong as Luke in the force, however Leia was molded from a young age to be a senator while Luke was kind of a clean slate. Leia had obviously met Darth Vader before and had all sorts of prejudice against him and therefore would have too much emotional baggage (Aldeeran) Also Leia grew up with a loving caring father, she didn't have that emptiness inside of her. I think she has the potential but has witnessed what the force can be used for by Vader and decides against using it.

I don't doubt that Leia has a strong connection to the force, however her emotions make her who she is-the fire is why an audience relate to her and I think the trilogy was more about Luke finding himself and his family and where he came from. I feel Leia had a much more defined sense of self then Luke and therefore training as a Jedi wouldn't mean as much to her as it does to Luke.

Yoda's been wrong about alot of things. His "personal faith in Leia" doesn't prove jack.

this is such a simple topic in my opinion.

Luke & Leia's midi-chlorian count were/are virtually the same, but it's the training that helps them tap into it. I don't think their counts were AS high as Anakin's, but they were high none-the-less.

Yoda and Ben felt she was weaker and would not be as successful because she was a woman. They were afraid she'd complain about the style of her Jedi robes or take criticism too harshly and lose focus. She might've built a pink lightsaber and Yoda and Ben would not allow that. Therefore they set after training Luke. Only after Luke fled to save his friends did Yoda realize his short-sighted sexist-ways. At that moment he knew Leia was the last hope.
