Vader and Anakin are two different people. I don't think VADER laughs before the suit.

    Hmmmm.....

He laughed before. But he was Anakin at the time.

He laughed in the speeder chase at the beginning of AOTC (When Anakin is apparently going on a diving crash into another speeder and Obi-Wan is going: "Pull up, Anakin...Pull up...!" and Anakin was laughing like a maniac)

He laughed with Padme as they left for a refugee ship.

Anakin: Don't worry, we have Artoo here with us.
    (Both he and Padme laughs)

That's the only two moments, i believe, where we see and hear Anakin laugh.

Other than that, no, he does not laugh when he turns into Darth Vader.

I think he watches the Star Wars version of the Mark Brothers on the galactic version of a VHS in his little dome.

Vader is one of the few villains that doesn't fall into evil maniac laughter upon acheiving success over good guys.

    However:

"...but I've just made a deal that will keep the Empire out fo here forever." The giant doors slid open and the Dark Lord of the Sith stood at the end of the long dinner table.
Instantly Solo pulled his heavy blaster from its holster and popped off shot after shot at the Dark Lord. Vader effortlessly deflected the incoming bolts with a hand.
Something unseen ripped the blaster from Solo's hand, and it flew quickly to the waiting gauntlet of Lord Vader.
"We would be honored if you would join us. HAW HAW HAW! I never get tired of that!"

Considering what the poor guy went through (Mustafar and all that), can you blame him for his lack of humor? I mean, he must be downright miserable in that suit! Poor guy. He can't even breathe on his own, and having to live your whole life behind a mask must SUCK! And how does he go to the can? Does he go in his own can? Then he'd have to walk around like that all day! That'd explain why he kills people with little or no provocation... But seriously, can you imagine what it must be like?

yeah i can understand what you are saying...

i would rather just have died then live like that...but he still had power but it would not be the same as being without the suit

With a burnt face like that even a wee smile hurts. But he certainly has "dark humor", very dark. Each time he kills an Imperial officer who failed him, he makes very sarcastical remarks. I like them.

That's one of the many reasons why I like Darth Vader!
Most people wouldn't think the guy has a sense of humor, but sometimes it comes off unintentionally, which makes it even more funny.

Thanks for charing my oppinion. Actually Vader reminds me a wee bit of "Black Adder". (Get it "black"... ha,ha... never mind!) It´s a British series including Rowan Atkinson(= the guy who is also Mr. Bean). Anyway, Vader is my favorite. It gave my elder brother the creeps when I didn´t stop crying in my movie seat when Vader died in ROTJ. I was 7 years at that time and pretty upset.

I've seen an episode or two of Black Adder... good stuff.

I think that Vader has his own sense of humor, but doesn't express it in the same way that normal people do. He laughs inside his head, not out loud.

He never seems to laugh, but I've always had the impression that he was sneering rather wickedly when he said "Now your highness, we will discuss the location of your hidden rebel base."

I don't think Vader is in any physical pain. Like any other wound burns do not hurt after they've recieved medical treatment & healed. He might be horribly scarred but scars do not cause pain. At most he might suffer the pain amputees occassionally feel called ghost pains. Amputees sometimes feel pain that seems to be coming from where there is actually no limb.

I do think that he recognizes the humor in statements like "Apology accepted, Captain Needa". Also, in the ROTS novelization, he's just laughing it up when he kills the Separatists. Shu Mai panics, saying "We were promised a reward. A handsome reward!" Vader's response: "I am your reward. You don't find me handsome?" There are several little exchanges like that, and they show that Vader hasn't lost his pre-dark-side sense of humor (which, unfortunately, we don't get to see in ROTS). It's probably still there by the time of the OT.

    I think he laughs.
I bet he laughs all the time.

It's just not relevant to the film, so we don't see it.

Vader laughs a lot in the ROTS game when he's killing people, but that's EU, so it probably doesn't count.

If he ever did laugh he probably cut-off his mic so others couldn't hear it.

yeah, he laughs, especially at moments such as when he first read the script of his life story and he realised the actor who was to portray him had to do a pathetic: "Nooooooooooooooooooo" while lurching like Frankenstein in his new suit.

    ha ha
