Does anyone know how many of these were made? I saw one on display at C3(it belonged to Wizards of the Coast) and the guy in their booth was telling me that only 500 were supposed to be made, but Don Post lost their license with Lucasfilm before they could complete the entire run. There's one on eBay now(it's #183) and seeing it just got me to wondering how you would ever find out the number of actual Fett figures produced. Anyone have information on this?

Well, if you saw #183, we know there are at least that many.. :)

Seriously - I checked my books and none of them list a total number for this..

I guess there's really no way of ever finding out as Don Post Studios is now out of business after being purchased by another group. The only person who MIGHT have this information is Steve Sansweet, but I have no idea how you would go about contacting him. Like you said, I guess we know at least 183 were made, but beyond that it's a mystery for now. Did you see that last one that sold on eBay about a month ago for $8100? It was #173. It will be interesting to see what the one currently on auction sells for. Whatever the final price, it will be way out of my budget. [face_money_eyes]

You could try asking him about it for his column in SW Insider. I'm pretty sure he still does it.

Yes, he still has the column. You can drop an email to scouting@insider.starwars.com . You need to put your hometown and full name in the email or it won't be considered for an answer.

Good suggestion, guys. I'll go ahead and shoot them an e-mail about this today. I've always wondered about the production run of this piece since I had a chance to get one 4 years ago for a little over $3000. I passed on it because I thought that was way too much money to spend on a piece of SW merchandise, but in retrospect I really dropped the ball on a great opportunity. Oh well, live and learn. If I get a response, I'll be sure to post it here. Thanks.

Sent the message to the e-mail address that was provided so hopefully an answer will show up in a future issue of SW Insider.

Well, even Steve Sansweet doesn't know how many of these were produced. I e-mailed a connection out in California who has a way of getting in touch with him personally and all he found out is that Mr. Sansweet has #00(the original prototype from Don Post Studios) in his collection. He didn't know how many were made before they lost the license, though, so I guess that means the only person with that knowledge is Don Post himself. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who can get in touch him so it looks like this will continue to be a mystery.

I have a magazine that was published by Topps from '98 that was all about Boba Fett, and inside there's an interview with Don Post about making these. I thought for sure it said how many were made, but I just checked it out and it doesn't say. The closest thing that's mentioned about how mnay were made is "several hundred".

Yeah, I have that same magazine and checked it as well. I think that article was written right around the time DP Studios started making the life-size figures, but at that point I'm sure they planned on making the full run of 500. They lost the license in 2002 I believe so there's really no way of knowing how many were made between 1998-2002. If Steve Sansweet doesn't know, I don't know who would other than Mr. Post himself. Anybody got his phone number?

    UPDATE:

Well, my 4 year search is over as I was actually able to acquire a Don Post life-size Boba Fett for my collection. Thanks to a collector over at Rebelscum.com who decided to liquidate his entire collection, I was able to negotiate a deal with him and finally add this great piece to my collection. I just got him last week and here are a few pics of the coolest bounty hunter in the galaxy. Enjoy!

Excuse me while I go away from the laptop - I don't want to drool into it...

Very nice! I am afraid to ask what that cost, and how much you had to pay to get it shipped..

Jeremy Bulloch's book Flying Solo has a pic of him with a lifesize Fett with a caption that refers to it being one of his Bobas. I think it is the same figure as yours but it doesn't have the base in the pic.

Well, it definitely wasn't cheap, but I did pay significantly less than the $8100 price of the last one that sold on eBay. Shipping was also extremely expensive, but it did come via freight company and was the most well packed item I have ever seen. I swear, it probably had 10 lbs. of bubble wrap and it came in a giant wood crate that was about the size of a coffin. I was extremely nervous about it being damaged in shipping, but fortunately it came with no problems whatsoever and I am very pleased with the job Craters & Freighters did getting it to me safely. As for Jeremy Bulloch, he was actually used in the production of this piece as Don Post Studios brought him in and basically built this statue to his exact dimensions. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he has one of these for himself as he was Boba Fett after all and if anyone should have been given one it's him. I still can't believe I was actually able to find this piece for sale and I can't stop looking at it. This is truly my favorite Star Wars collectible of all time. I really appreciate all of the kind words and I hope everyone enjoys the pictures. I'll try to post some more later.

Wow, very nice! Congratulations on finding one. I've wanted one of those for years, ever since I found out about them, so it's cool to see that someone who's wanted one also finally get it. It truly is the ultimate SW collectible. A Vader and stormtrooper were also made, and they're equally as cool. Man, what I would give to have all three of those...

Awesome pics, thanks for the peeks!

Well, I had a chance to get one of the Don Post Stormtrooper props a while back, but passed on it. It's very cool, but I just never wanted one badly enough to pay the high price those pieces command. However, I do have a couple of pretty mean looking Sith Lords in my collection. Here are a few more pics:

    Mike,

If you don't mind my asking, where did you find the one you had a chance to buy a year ago? I checked eBay religiously to no avail and just lucked into finding this one for sale over at Rebelscum. They're practically impossible to find, but I guess if there really are less than 200 in existence you're not going to find very many for sale.

Well I happen to have a friend who has a friend on the West Coast ( LA ) who was willing to sell the one he had. He was trying to acquire my Jango prototype pistol a while back. To make a long story short I ended up buying the ring and I do not know what ever came of Boba. I remember the shipping was going to be very expensive.

I was never formally introduced to the owner as my friend was acting as the middle man.

    Mike,

I know a couple of people in LA that have a Boba in their collection, but I don't think either one of them would sell. In fact, I tried to get one of the guys to sell me his(I practically begged), but he said there was no way he'd let go of it because he didn't think he could ever find another one to replace it. Now that I finally have one I know how he feels because I don't think there's any way I would ever sell mine no matter how much I was offered for it. He's just way too cool. :)

V I wanted that Boba so badly so I know how you feel :) I am sensing that you would like to find R2 and C3PO at some point in the future.

No, I think I'm actually done. I only collect villains so I'm really not to interested in R2 or 3PO. Besides, even if I wanted a C-3PO they're even harder to find than Boba and apparently the going rate is somewhere around $12-15k for one. That's way out of my price range! If I ever did add another life-size the only one I'd be interested in is the Stormtrooper, but like I said I think I'm done because I am out of both space and money. Of course, there are rumors that Sideshow Collectibles may do some life-size Star Wars props sometime in the not too distant future so I guess you should never say never.
