    No thanks.

Also, because this is a SW message board doesn't mean everyone here thinks bringing 70 year old Han Solo into the movie is a good idea. Some people have the ability to move on and let go.

It's bizarre to me how you think an all female cast is a publicity stunt but bringing back a bunch of the old cast to reprise their roles isn't.

I think rebooting 80s movies is a step below referring to ketchup as a vegetable.

But this thread has been the most hilarious part of my Saturday, and has made me want to go see the movie at least once.

There are some movies from the 1980s that are worth revisting, for a variety of reasons.

    Highlander
    The Last Starfighter

Things like that, where it was a good high-concept idea limited by either budget or EFX at the time would be ripe (or where better actors would suit, though no one is coming close to either Ckancy Brown or Robert Preston in their respective films).

Ghostbusters is an interesting case because, while the concept could be rebooted and the EFX could certainly be improved... it's almost a perfect movie, and one that is unlikely to be recreated with any actors of any race or gender (which is why I generally agree with Adam of Nuchtern -- opposed to the reboot, not opposed to all-women).

And yet not everyone here thinks bringing back a 70 year old Solo is a bad idea. That's just a great piece of egotistical reasoning right there.

Ghostbusters 3. I have not seen GB 2 all the way through. What bits I have seen looked bad. I don't need reboots like this but if the powers that be give it a go and use whatever twist they need to to entertain me then so be it, I might be interested.

I get sick of the reboot as much as anyone but at the same time I just want a positive theatre experience regardless of contect or how much some studio makes. All female cast for GB3? ok. Just make it good.

This made me laugh. I'm not afraid of change. I just want everything to stay the same forever and ever, that's all.

they tried to recreate it once with the same cast and it didn't turn out very well.

I happen to like Ghostbusters 2 more than others do and I remember the dark days that the Cursed Statue roamed the land...

I never said everyone did. Just that most people here are looking forward to it and do not consider it a horrible idea.
Sorry, but Star Wars is the most popular movie franchise of all time. It does not need to rely on publicity stunts and the fact that you think bringing back the big-3 is just a publicity stunt is epic fail on your part.. Apparently, however, the producers of the new Ghostbusters movie feel that they do need such stunt.

Let me clarify: "I happen to like Ghostbusters 2 more than some others do and that definitely doesn't include Spider-Fan "

Apparently the folks over @ Bloody-Disgusting got their hands on the second draft of the Stupnitsky/Eisenberg script for GB3 dated 4/8/09 and they currently have a brief review up. I'd heard a number of the elements mentioned in rumors--Peter as Mayor of New York, the "Big 3" dying at the end--but there are a lot of new details here.

    Thoughts?

Not sure it would have worked too well. It seems that the new team would get the short end of the stick, in terms of screentime and presence. One of the ideas that Aykroyd bandied about, where they're active at first and then start turning over to the new team makes better sense.

The script is a fake, Gene Stupinsky confirmed it.

Which one is playing Ernie Hudson's character?

Edit: Too much too soon too cynical?

I love that they're rebooting with an all-female Ghostbuster team, but knowing Hollywood this could go awfully awry. I'd hate for the it to be reduced to some kind of sexist female archetype thing like Ghostbuster Spice Girls. Nerdy Spice, Black Spice, Fat Spice and Sexy Spice.

Since I am apparently out of touch with pop culture, can someone tell me who these women are? I can't say I recognize a single one.

Three from SNL and a capable actress who plays the same grating character in every movie. I imagine this will be about as memorable as anything in McCarthy's post-Bridesmaids career.

Any three of those women would be ideal for the Charlie's Angels reboot.

Kristen Wiig - hated her on SNL, loved her in Bridesmaids. As long as the writing is good, I think she'll do great in this movie.
Leslie Jones - hilarious and one of the funnier players in the current dismal SNL cast. Again, I think she'll be awesome.
Kate McKinnon - not a fan of hers or her characters on SNL, so not a fan of this pick.
Melissa McCarthy - loved her in Bridesmaids, she was decent in The Heat, hated her in Identify Thief, and she couldn't save the crap movie that was Tammy. With that said, I think she'll be great in this movie. I'm optimistic - 75% optimistic. :)
