    Title: Drabble Scum
    Author: brodiew
Characters: Dedra Meero, Syril Karn, Cassian Andor, Luthen Rael, Saw Garrera, Mon Mothma, and others from the Andor series. Also, Han Luke, Leia, Bail, Lando, and more.
Genre: drama, angst, humor, and more.
Author note: This thread is born out of my appreciation for Star Wars: ANDOR and solid dramatic storytelling they are presenting. This thread will feature the Rise of the Rebellion as its central theme, but could include more OT goodness.

    Week 1

    Prelude

Dedra Meero stared into the mirror of her small refresher and inspected her muted make up and blonde hair, which had been meticulously torqued into position under her uniform cap. Nothing could be out of place. No Stray hair. No eyelashes perched on her rank insignia. Her boots shined. Her tunic and pants were starched and sharply creased. It wasn't her first day at the Imperial Security Bureau. It was her 30th. However, as much as the Emperor could be unforgiving, so to was the military chain of command. No matter how many days had passed, it always felt like her first.

    Bygone

Syril Karn was still a child when the Republic transformed into the Empire overnight. He didn't like the Separatists. Uncle Harlo and his mother were staunch Republicans. So that made him one too. His collection of Clonetrooper action figures grew steadily whether he wanted it to or not. Syril never understood why the the war was fought by robots and clones when there were plenty of able-bodied beings that could fight for themselves.

As for the Jedi, he used to think they were astral, but he would never say so. They were traitors. They disfigured the Emperor and tried to take power. That was the Imperial truth. That was Uncle Harlo's truth. It became Syril's truth as well.

    Impend

When Syril met Dedra Meero of the ISB, he nearly lost his mind. Her appearance was crisp. Her attitude sharp and focused. He sensed a kindred spirit. He felt like there was a connection, a union of minds, even though the interview was brief. She wanted to know what happened on Ferrix. She wanted the truth, something more than the vacant, porous report provided by his Preox Morlana commander. She wanted Cassian Andor as much as he did. She knew how important he was.

Syril saw zeal in Meero's pale blue eyes. It matched his own. He followed those eyes as they appraised him. Surely she wondered how fine and Imperial officer he would make.

    Descend

She must have been testing him. All the communion he felt with her during the interview evaporated when she told him to go home, that his help was no longer needed. She couldn't have meant that. They had shared so much. The words were just factions, information, but when their eyes met, there was one soul.It was order, discipline, dogged determination to see a task through to completion. It was compliance, obedience, and loyalty to the...Empire. It was the soul burning desire to subdue and eradicate the enemies of the... Emperor. He felt, on a cellular level, the he and Dedra were the same.

    Arise

Syril had not planned to put his hand on her. That was his mistake. She wasn't listening. She wouldn't hear him out. She accused him of stalking, which was parsecs from the truth. He wasn't attracted to her as a...person. He had never thought of it that way. He was in love with her mind, her spirit, her professionalism.

Was she physically attractive? He never considered it. Would he even want to spend time with her in a non official capacity? Would change the situation if he tried to approach her as a potential romantic partner?

Syril Karn watched as Dedra Meero owned the skywalk leading to the front doors of the ISB. Romance had never entered his mind until now.

    Welcome to the challenge!

Such strong character sketches right out of the gate! Syril is a great villain who thinks he's a nice guy. I like how Dedra's single-minded perfectionism manifests in carefully selected and executed makeup and hairstyle, and her understanding that she has to do all this stuff that has nothing to do with her job in order to keep her job. Aaaaaaand now she has a stalker when all she did was a job interview. I don't think I've ever sympathized with an Imperial so fast!

I'm looking forward to reading more! :)

YAY!! As always, I am so excited to see you tackle this challenge and I look forward to more drabbles from you!! (Which I don't intend to be as late replying to. ;))

This was an interesting way to interpret the "Prelude" prompt! You can feel the rigorous and precise standards that Dedra holds herself to, and the style of your short, almost abrupt sentences really contributed to your characterization.

This was a really interesting point of view to follow from a civilian of the Republic. [face_thinking]

Isn't that how easily it seems to go? =((

I can definitely see where Syril sees a kindred spirit in Dedra, even if he's unable to wholly process just what that means for himself. [face_thinking]

This continues to be a fascinating look into Syril's mind! (And it's reminded me that I really need to finish catching up on Andor - I love what I've seen so far, and I particularly want to be able to dive into more of your drabbles.)

Your collection is off to a great start, and I can't wait to read more if and when you're inspired! =D= [:D]

Nice job! I enjoyed these insights into Dedra and Syril, and the drabble format was an excellent way to show them. You did really well with using the drabble prompts to show the roller coaster of their interactions, especially from Syril's perspective. They each have a lot of internal and external factors at play in how they act with others and view the world. Great work! =D=
