    Hey guys,
Has anyone ever tried importing the DCShallway.3ds file in 3D MAX? I have tried importing it into max and it just renders all in white.
Has anyone had any success in re-texturing this model, or fixing whatever it is that needs to be corrected?

Let me check it out when I get home tonight - I'm not near my animation computer otherwise I'd take a look right now. I'll post something tonight and let you know what I find out.

DVeditor: have you figured anything out?
Well I have been playing with the light set up and I think there's just way tooo many lights. If you erase them all, the model is seen fine. I'm wondering if there is a certian light setting that is needed to be changed?

Hmm, that could be. I'm still not quite home yet lol but I will be fairly soon. I'll still check on the model and post a reply later tonight. The lighting could be a very big part of the problem though...if I get it to work later I'll post a new version of the scene for you if you like. What version of Max are you running?

Ok, just got home and opened up the file...it was a bit of a mess. I'm guessing the conversion didn't go very well because the the lights are WAY too high (there's like 177 of them lol) and the camera was messed up too. I'm working on a corrected scene right now - will post it asap.

    Ok, here's the deal.

The lighting in this scene was very very bad because every single light was emitting WAY TOO MUCH energy even at values as low as 0.05 lol. My guess is that Max handles the lighting data differently than Lightwave and therefore was calculating the values all wrong. (e.x. Lightwave light set at 0.5 = Max light set at 5.)

What I did was import the file into Max and perform a test render using the default scanline settings. Here's what I got.

After some major corrections using the light lister, I was able to tone it all down and achieve this.

If you'd like the file (Max 7) here it is.

I can't work on this any more tonight but I might try to clean the scene up a little bit another time. The textures and lighting still aren't what the picture showed, but at least it's viewable now. :) Hope that helps you!

This definetly helps! If you choose to improve the texturing, I'm sure everyone here would appreciate this! Can u add reflection to the floor? Let us know if you're going to do this!

EDIT: I opened your version, and it still looks the same....?

I'll do what I can on it (textures, etc.) and see what I come up with by the weekend.

Hmm, the file is the one I corrected...I'll see what I can do and maybe post another one. I'm in the middle of a time-sensitive F/X project right now but I should have something by this weekend to report. :)

Yeah it can have "interesting" results if you do that...you can always give it a shot - worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work, eh? :)

Ok I've got the lighting under control. (For now lol.) Here's the latest image - I'm working on correcting the textures and optimizing the file right now and should have a clean .max file for y'all this weekend!

EDIT: The scene looks very dark right now - but I did that to focus on the self-illumination of those wall panels. :)

Cool...I think everyone here will appreciate the DCS Hallway update. Especally for those like me that have little 3d experience and want to use the hallways for their fanfilms/projects.

Thanks for the compliments fireresq. I'm glad it worked for you!

Zoo - now that I know the scene works, any chance we could add this to the download options?
