I was looking on LEGO shop and I saw a TIE fighter set. It had two standard TIEs, Vader's TIE, and a Droid TIE. Anyone know what a droid TIE is and what it's from? Or is it just a LEGO creation? I'd think droid-runned starfighters would be decommisioned after the Clone Wars.

I do know that during Warlord Zsinj's run, he had a TIE variant that was droid piloted.

Otherwise known as the TIE/D. Constructed by World Devastators and deployed en masse during the Battle of (Mon) Calamari six standard years after the Battle of Endor.

    It's from Dark Empire.

They're also found during the Dark Empire level in the Rogue Squadron game.

Yep, the LEGO Droid TIE is a TIE/D judging from their TIE Collection. They may say Droid TIE in one of the pics, but on the page where they let you add the collection to your shopping cart, they specify it's a TIE/d (They did get that wrong, should be an uppercase D instead of a lowercase). Plus they added a droid brain figure for it. That makes two vehicles I know of from DE to end up in toy form. The E-wing made it into the Micro Machines Action Fleet, and now this.

The Remnant apparently used them (or another Droid controlled model) during the Battle of Borosk as a cover from the Braxant Bonecrusher.

yup, or the battle of Mon Calamari. I loved that stage. but Those pesky TIEs were a bitch to take down. Unless, of course, you had homing cluster missiles.... :D cluster missiles are da bomb.

Incidentally, in the mission, you fly as Wedge Antilles in a V-wing. Yet the Dark Empire comic had Wedge placed in the ISD Emancipator. did he transfer after the Emancipator got chewed up by the Silencer 7? Or did he not fly at all?

Visas' Go'uld glare, we have a major continuity violation! How cool is this? [face_dancing]

I violently hated that level, impossible without the V-wing. And the Devastator's homing torps!

I remember the Rogue Squadron game on the good old N64! I spent many happy hours of my late childhood/early teenage years playing that game. I think the level based on Dark Empire may have been my first 'experience' with the Expanded Universe, as it were.

cool? It is a discrepancy of disastrous proportions!

yeah, the Devastators were a pain. but i liked the stage as a whole... the Mon Cal backdrop, taking on the TIEs with my cluster missiles, taking a few pot shots at the occasional wave skimmer.... ah, the good times. i wonder wherever that CD of mine went...

The Mon Cal battle spanned a good deal of time- I suppose it's concievable that at some point between scenes in the comic, Wedge decided to earn some flight pay and transferred to a V-Wing.

I remember the first time I saw the X-wing lift off the hangar deck in '98, spinning around in 3D. My epiphany for writing that sensation began.

A year later, I saw the unnamed Naboo starfighter in a movie. The AT-ST mini stage was fun too. I loved the Trench run. "We just lost Rogue Nine!"

I'd rather it have been Rogue Ten, but is Fortuna complaining in his ugly new body?

i think he's talking about how the mission was his first exposure to an already-existent part of the EU- dark empire. he neglects to consider, of course, how the rest of the Rogue Squadron missions are also, technically, EU material. :D

Freaking Hasbro should of made these along with the Skipray Gunboats and Tie Defenders...They hardly make any EU stuff,or takes them an extremely long time to do.

But wouldn't you rather have another Maul/Jango/Grievous figure?

Just as a silly out-of-te-blue question, would these Droid TIEs be the result of the droid TIE Starfighters that were built in X-Wing Alliance? If I recall correctly, the end of that particular campaign saw an Imperial Captain mention that work on the Droid TIEs would continue, even if it was slowed down for awhile.

That would be Admiral Zaarin, who turned traitor and used many upgraded starfighters (Avengers, Defenders, etc.) He was talking about starfigthers in general, IIRC, not droid starfighters. I think that they were only droid piloted because they were prototypes and that was easier and cheaper; the production models would have had actual pilots.

There was a Micromachine Skipray once, and there was a toy TIE Defender in Action Fleet. :)

According to the DE audio drama he and Lando landed on Mon Calamari after the Emancipator was attacked by Silencer 7. Nothing is said one way or another if after that he then took to the skies to fight in the way he knows best.

Not quite. I should have been more specific; it was my first experience with non-Classic Era EU.

Why didn't the Imperials modify Darktrooper programming for the TIE Droid computer brains instead of using those Ace 9 (sp) combat computers?
