Alright, I'm gonna start off by saying, I've googled it... I've looked cover to cover through my manual, fiddled with every little option I could think of, did some troubleshooting steps, ie process of elimination, tried on another computer, tried a different firewire cable, etc. For some reason my camera (Canon GL1) keeps flashing "DV IN" and will not register as a device when I plug it into my computer. All the rest of the stuff on it works, AV in/out etc. Less than a month ago the camera was working fine, I was editing up a storm. For the life of me I can't figure out what this is. At first I just thought it was a hardware malfunction and my firewire port was shot on my cam, but after a little googling, I found some people having the same issue with their cameras (different models) there seemed to be a funtion on the camera that would make it do such a thing (for who knows what reason) though their solutions didn't seem to solve the problem. I'm sure it's probably the most obvious of reasons that is looking me straight in the face, but I was wondering if anyone one has any idea what is up or how to fix the issue.

Editing software seems irrelivant, as the operating system usually detects my camera as soon as I plug it into the firewall port, but I am using Windows XP... and nothing has changed in configuration since the setup was in a working state.

Edit: Wow that sounds kinda snarky, reply not meant to be snarky.

Coincidently I found an extremely cheap DV camera (Canon ZR100)(probably not great for shooting but I just needed it to export footage to my computer) and it did in fact turn out to be a camera issue, windows detects this one no problem. All in all a good deal, under $200 Canadian, and probably alot cheaper than the repair bill for my camera.

Ah... onto post production, this feels nice.
