This has been a problem that has plagued me since high school. During Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) my stomach was like a mini-symphany. Of course it only happens when everyone is quiet.

Now it does it during work meetings, during dinner dates, and now during college classes. One time it did it when I was getting my eyebrows waxed. It's not a good idea to startle the lady with the hot wax right over your face.

And it's not the quiet rumbling. It's the earsplitting, thunderous, deafening growl that lasts for like 5 minutes.

Anyone would think that I never eat or something. Does this happen to anyone else?

Perhaps you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
May I suggest taking some Zelnorm.

If you contract your stomach muscles it should stop. Or drink water.

Mine usually does when I have to go dump a load. Do you feel hungry or get that feeling that you better find a restroom fast?

I have the same problem sometimes in meetings. I try to hide it by clearing my throat or fake coughing at the same time and shifting around in my seat to mask the hurt animal growling sounds coming from within.

One day I should just go with it and say, "Man I'm xxxxxx' hungry!" , get up and walk out.

At least if it was Irritable Bowel Syndrome I would have an excuse to leave the meetings. Maybe I should just tell everyone I have that condition and use it as an excuse to get out of work.

Or maybe I should carry a zip lock bag of crackers at all times for emergencies.

Maybe it's gas. Just let one fly and just say " thank god i didn't shart this time." That will go off great in a meeting.

You ever have those lower stomach noises that almost sound like a fart?

I have it some times as well, Glymmer. My boyfriend thinks it's hilarious. Did you know it's actually called borborygmi? It might be nothing else than your stomach processing food (it usually happens a few hours after I've eaten). If you've got any other symptoms, I'd see your GP, but it doesn't sound like it's doing you any harm.

Borborgymi? It sounds like some sort of aborigini tribe! I like it.

I always thought it had something to do with my metabolism. I have a fast one and thought I was digesting at incredible speeds or something. It does it right before I eat as well.

I think you may have something there - I've got a fast metabolism too.

I get those when I'm really hungry. Like when I used to come home from work on a bus only having eaten one burger the whole day.

This seems to happen to me whenever I enter a church (weddings, funerals).

It also tends to happen when I visit a dentist or a doctor.

My stomach always wants to say something when silence is required/expected.

One time when I was taking the SAT my stomach just wouldn't stop growling, and there was no other noise in the room. [face_blush] It was in the morning and I hadn't eaten anything.

I have the same problem. Though it's caused by a gastric stimulator.

Just reading this thread made me giggle.

Whenever it happens to me, I start giggling uncontrollably.

Which makes it even worse, because it's always in a situation where you're not supposed to be laughing.
