yes, at least Empire is one of those voted where awards are voted for by readers and not just the 'lovies' all back slapping...[face_peace]

The thing is (and yes I will get berated for this)

As much as I enjoyed ROTS the film itself wasn't fantastic.

IMO Serenity and Wallace and Grommit were far better movies and to be honest I found the birth of Vader a bit of an anti-climax. Remember this.......

    [vader]Nooooooooooooooo[/vader]

How long were people taking the piss out of that. That in itself killed the scene quite spectacularly for me.

Best scene/s in ROTS = The order 66 Montage with the key scene being Ki Adi Mundi's demise.

When viewing what film gets an award it's best to be objective and try to remove you rose tinted Star Wars biased glasses once in a while.

Yes it was a decent movie but there were far better movies released last year.

I think the birth of Vader is referring to the part when we see him put the costume on for the first time, in particular when he breathed which was a great moment in 2005!! Probably best to forget the 'Noooooo!' bit ever happened ;)
Although if the 'Kong V V-rex' fight scene was nominated, that would have got my vote.

I didn't see Serenity, but I think the problem with that film is that it has limited appeal. My friend saw it who hadn't seen Firefly and didn't like it that much, but people who had seen Firefly enjoyed it much more. While I don't think RotS was a great film either, it had that extra special factor because it was a Star Wars film and the last one. However, best Sci-fi/Fantasty film of 2005 for me was Goblet of Fire, but I certaily don't mind RotS winning that one.

I agree with most of them (probably why I read Empire).

However I think the dogfight from Wallace and Gromit was a better scene than the birth of Vader. It was a great scene and all but I think it could have been so much more. A little of the Imperial March might have been nice and more than just one breath from Vader. Plus the fact that Anakin was screaming and stuff before they put the mask on was a bit annoying; I always imagined him struggling to breathe prior to the breathing apparatus.

I think Johnny Depp is a good one for Best Actor. He was awesome as Willy Wonka.

And the awards website is working incredibly slowly for me.

can't say I particually agree with ya there :( I thought the screaming at the robots pretty much prodding his burnt body was very disturbing to watch and personally thought it was a great touch

It deserved Best Scene (when compared to the other nominations), but not best Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Also, Pride and Prejudice beating Harry Potter, Hitchikers and Wallace and Gromit is just sheer stupidity.
King Kong best film? Don't make me laugh! It was distinctly average! Sin City should have won out of those nominations. Abd the fact that they say it's better than the original shows that Empire are rather stupid.

ROTS was IMO the best sci-fi film of the year
I cant think of a sci-fi film that was better, unless you class Batman as a Sci-Fi movie

Having not seen all of the films nominated for the best scene category, I cant say whether the birth of Vader was the best one. I thought it was great, it had many wonderful parts to it, although there were parts that could have been improved.

ROTS was not the best film of 2005 and it wasn't voted best film, so I dont see what people are complaining about.
The only sci-fi which could remotely challenge ROTS was Serenity, which was distinctly average. Certainly more amusing, and it had elements of the old SW in it, but it was not as good IMO

And Kong winning best film is a travesty, it should've been Batman or Sin City

King Kong best film!?!?!?! It was absolute ****!!! This is in a non Star Wars bias way but ROTS kicked King Kongs ass! ROTS wasn't the best movie of the year but it was way better than King Kong which I thought was awful. Best film should of gone to Batman Begins or Sin City.

    But he looked impressive
More then an obviously CGI gorilla called Kong who would never be able to beat T-Rex in a fight

Am I only one here who really LIKED Kong? I don't really agree that it should have got film of the year though. Nice to see ROTS win best sci-fi/fantasy. The Goblet of Fire was also excellent but i'm glad ROTS won.

Shut up king wrong. Here are my awards:

Most obviusly CGI award: ROTS. - Once Star Wars was the cutting edge of FX, but the prequels are nothing more then a promo for ILM, and most of the things look more fake then anything out the OT.
Inspired use of CGI: King Kong - It isn't as good as the CGI of Gollom, but again Jackson shows he knows how FX should work, put a man in a suit, just make the suit motion capture and then add the suit better with a computer.

Also, King Kong beats a T-Rex in the orginal, that why he is king. Also show me proof that he would never be able to beat a T-Rex.

I thought the CGI in Kong was nothing short of spectacular. Those action scenes were mindblowing IMO.

Apart from the collossal pile up of Diplodocus', the CGI was top notch. The CGI isn't what I have wrong with the film. I just found it "meh". There was nothing that got me going "ooh" about the story. Although, I did really like the scene in the valley with all the bugs. That was an amazing scene.

I felt Kong to be a very good film. I love the orginal, and have a love of classic monster movies, and you could tell that it was done with much the same kind of admiration. It improved the story of the orginal a lot, going past simple 2D characters and having the damsal warm to Kong when it was so obvious that he is trying to protect her, unlike the orginal.

As for Kong himself, well supurb. Brilliantly done, and Serkis should of been nominated for best actor.

My gripes with the film: Overlong, some prolonged action scenes that seem to be there to please studios more than progress the film.

Don't forget that he could breath well enough in hs chamber in ESB without his hat on, Presumably the room he was in then was set up to allow him to breath as they worked on him.

I loved King Kong too. As a film, it was far superior to RotS and is by far the best bit of CGI ever and will be for a long time to come. When you begin to comprehend what Peter Jackson managed to achieve with Kong, you may appreciate it far more....but, maybe that's just me :p

And Richie, I suggest you do some research into Apes. A normal Chimp is 8 times stronger then a grown man, and a silverback Gorilla is even stronger. So a 50ft giant Gorilla would quite easily kill anything and everything if it wanted to [face_monkey]
