Things I ponder: Do you ever wonder how the Empire managed to enslave a race as fierce as the Wookiees? It seems like the resources they would have to expend to keep Wookiees down would greatly outweigh whatever benefit they got from them.

I'm not sure how this relates to the OT

apparently that was not the case- wookieeslaves must have been cheaper compared to workerdroids for example- wookiees who openly opposed the new order also served as an example for other potential rebels that Empire is not an institution to be toyed with....

*sigh* Admittedly I'm rather rusty at starting threads, but I thought the concept of the Empire using Wookiees as slave labor was canon in the sense of having been confirmed in some original source such as one of the radio dramas. Or I may be thinking of draft scripts for Return of the Jedi - I'm not sure. But, if I'm wrong and you feel this thread belongs in another forum, would you kindly just move it to the appropriate one? Thanks.

Ive often thought about the enslavement of the wookies and how the empire did it.

If I'm not mistaken, weren't the Transdoshans involved?

I need to revisit the RotJ radio drama.

It doesn't sound all that hard to me.

The Empire probably made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

this is what kashyyyk is all about in star wars galaxies, about the trandoshans teaming up with the empire to enslave the wookiees, the trandos have long been at war with them

They need to make a animated SW episode with that story. Sounds keen.

In the novel Darksaber, there was a flashback to when Tarkin landed on Kashyyyk to gather some slaves. The Wookiees resisted, of course, but then Tarkin ordered his ships to fire on the forest. The Wookiees were quickly subdued to prevent anymore violence to their planet.

I always felt that this idea could be greatly elaborated on during the apparently-forgotten-about live action series. It would be nice to see that element in there.

Considering the empire had hundreds of thousands of troops, star destroyers, and other weapons, I think it was a case of " Either become our slaves, or we will level your entire planet in flames.."

Read Dark Lord, and, if you can stomach it, parts of Darksaber. All explained :p

Plus, think about it. The Empire vs a planet of Wookies who don't really rely on advance technology as far as we know. Small wonder they got owned hard.

The Wookiees are fierce, but they fight with honor. There's also the little fact that you're dealing with people who can turn your entire planet into slag in less than 24 hours.

Why would the Empire need Wookie slaves when they already have a limitless supply of clone slaves?, Clones will follow orders without question as opposed to wookies that will fight back.

With the wookies from what I gather they were sort of a stand in for the Vietnamese with some of the general ideas for Star Wars being influenced by the Vietnam war.Lucas later changed it to the Ewoks but the general theme remained with Empire/America/Technology Vs Ewok-Wookie/Vietnam/Primitive.The United States never enslaved the Vietnamese or had any intention to, it was more of an occupation and I'd say that's what Lucas was going for with the wookies.

The reviled Holiday Special is the only look at the Wookie homeworld we get post ROTS that Lucas had any input into and there didn't seem to be any slavery afoot just the Imperials acting like jerks.Lucas was planning on making an entirely Wookie movie at some point if I recall correctly but it morphed into the holiday special and later the Ewok movies.

I tend to think the answer could be greater physical strength, but then I'm left wondering why they didn't use droids instead.

Tarkin: Well, Princess, one game of dejarik. My Wookiee against you. If you win, we'll let you go free. If you lose...

Yeah, Dark Lord more or less explains it. Plus the Han Solo novels-they show that individual Wookie slaves had shock collars, which probably cuts arms-out-of-socketting by at least 95%.

Hokey treetop houses and ancient flying catamaran are no match for a blaster at your side.
